I would be one of the last homes restored as we were a single home outage and we are literally near the end of Eversource's service area. Thursday morning at 6:00 AM I put a web request for propane into Haffner's web site indicating our propane fuel level and a remark indicating we were still on our whole house generator. I expected delivery on Friday or Monday according to Haffner's normal summer time propane delivery schedule. Haffner's WOWED me by delivering propane Thursday morning around 7:00 AM. GREAT JOB!

They have delivered me oil and serviced my furnace for years. I like to have my furnace serviced just before the winter. I have some anxiety about the system in general, though mine is only about 10yrs old. My dishwasher can't kill me. But the furnace and its carbon monoxide can. Getting it checked yearly before winter gives me peace of mind. Sadly, though service has generally been good, I was confronted with a situation that was incredibly disappointing. I had burner service/cleaning scheduled. I saw the man pull in and went outside and greeted him in a friendly way. He immediately started grumbling about my request for service so soon from my last service. It seemed he was irritated that I would want service so soon from my last cleaning. I explained that I like once-yearly service before winter; and the reason I was having it done in under 12 months was because of late scheduling the prior year; the prior year when I called for pre-winter service was busy for Haffners so I had to wait months, to February. I went on to explain that I wanted to get back on a pre-winter schedule but the Haffners employee continued to grumble and said with disdain that if I wanted service so early from the last 'we will take your money.' It was very disappointing to be spoken to like that. I said ok, you can go then, and I walked in my house. I called later and spoke to the manager Tony. Tony said that the man is well liked by customers and gets a lot of complements. Maybe so, but the morning he visited me was terrible. Tony didn't seem much interested and I sensed no exuberance in his concern for me. I expected more. He did inform me that based on my oil usage I could go as long as 2 years without service. I thanked him for that. I told Tony that his employee may have wanted to convey that kind of message to me. But the manner in which he did it was full of disdain. Too bad because they have a great business, do great work, and most people there have been wonderful. Maybe some there need a refresher in how to talk to customers.

While oil delivery service has been satisfactory, the install was overpriced and raised questions about the integrity of Haffner's/Energy North. We had a proposal from our former dealer to install a Buderus boiler based system. I asked the Haffners team for a proposal and price to install a system of equal quality and especially efficiency. Haffner's proposed to install a Peerless boiler based system. In multiple discussions, that system was represented to be of the same quality and efficiency as the Buderus. Those representations proved to be not accurate. I later learned that while Peerless is a very well regarded brand, it is of lesser quality and lower efficiency than the Buderus. This first came to light when one of the Haffner's technicians who installed the Peerless system acknowledged those facts in conversation after the install. I was very disappointed and immediately raised concerns about the inaccurate statements and the lack of value in what Haffner's had installed. They "met the price" of the Buderus proposal [their original price was higher for the Peerless system]. When I challenged Haffner's supervisory staff, they offered a $100 dollar price accommodation. Given the discrepancy in value and efficiency, that did not begin to make up for the inaccurate statements we relied on in accepting their proposal. This was a system for a 95 year old widow, they should have been more honest. I ultimately spoke with a neutral party about the comparison between the two boilers - a 30+ years in the business plumbing and heating professional who has worked in my home [the system at issue was for my elderly mother] for two decades. He said while Peerless is a good quality unit, it is not at the level of the Buderus. He said in his entire career, he never had experienced a defect in a Buderus device. He also explained the difference in efficiency. In the peerless boiler, heat is transferred in a single pass around a heated chamber. The medium to be heated in the Buderus system passes three times, transferring more heat for each unit of oil burned. That information only increased my disappointment with what Haffner's's/Energy North represented to me and how they treated my mother once the inaccuracies and unfairness were brought to their attention. Conclusion: Good service and low oil prices. But pay attention to what is represented about equipment quality and efficiency. In retrospect, we should have stuck with the competing local dealer and installed the Buderus based system.

They've been charging us for annual burner service/cleanings and never actually cleaned our furnace! Not once in four years! I have pictures to prove it. We knew something was not right when every year we were burning more and more oil. I called in a new company, a heating/AC specialist just to look at it this year and when they removed the flew pipe and top of the furnace, it was loaded with ash and black soot. Over an inch of soot! Ash in a 3 inch pile! We were told that even the oil filter on the tank hadn't been changed. I'm ripping pissed. So dishonest!!! If you use them currently, please have a heating/AC professional come out to double check your furnace! My neighbor used them too so after telling him what happened to us, he had a tech come out to look at his furnace and SAME THING! NOT CLEANED properly. These guys should be investigated for cheating people. Oh, and they also go under the name Colonial Oil. I posted on both.
