My husband took our vintage vehicle here to get in inspected and the guy was clearly very racist. We've have the vehicle for years, every year no issue with inspection at other garages. He was incredibly rude, borderline yelling that there's no way a vehicle of this year/make would ever pass, said he wouldn't look at it. Laughed us out of there and treated us like we were idiots for even trying. AVOID THIS REPAIR "SHOP" AND INSPECTION STATION. This location has been convenient for our family for some time, and when I (male) bring our vehicles here for inspection, I am treated acceptably if the 2 primary mechanics are otherwise occupied. If the 2 primary mechanics interact, they are rude, hostile, and condescending. Last year I brought one of our cars for inspection, and from a distance of 40 feet or so, he rudely proclaimed "those tires are not acceptable and we will fail you if you get this inspected". For the first time, my wife (female) brought her car for a simple inspection of a brand new vehicle. From the beginning of the interaction, the "mechanic" was rude, condescending, and outwardly sexist. He snapped his fingers at not only my wife, but another female customer in the waiting area. The "mechanic" talked down to both of them (in front of all customers) and threatened them with inspection failures for ridiculous (and non-legitimate) reasons. I go there for state inspection. It is better if those 2 mechanics busy, and they have a helper to do the inspection. Then will be smooth, in and out 15 minutes. With those 2 guys, unpredictable. I had get there at 8am. The guy said we open at 8:30. I said I just called and was told 8am. The guy said I am the one doing the Inspection, just go drive around a bit. read more

Apparently minority women are not seen. I was next in line for an inspection sticker. There was a young women before me and no one after me. I waited in the waitingroom for him to finish and hand the keys to the young women. An older man in a blue coat pulls up, gets out of his car, and hands the autotechnician his registrations. I ask if they accept appointments. He stated that it was a first come, first serve basis. I explained that I was next. The technician ignored me and walked by to continue his greeting to the older man in the blue coat. The other man ( who is on O2) and wearing a camouflage coat prceeded to tell me about the RMV and how their system was not working right. The technician acknowledge me and stated that he was inspecting this car and then going to lunch. I went home and told my husband what had happened. He went after lunch to talk with the technician, who claimed to not know what he was talking about and stated that was busy and doesn't remember having a conversation with me. My husband went 1/2 hour later after his (technician's) lunch break. read more

The two mechanics here are the stupidist clowns I have ever seen. I failed the Safety inspection and they gave me the run around. Telling me to run the car at 50 mph for an hour. That didn't work. Gave me two other lame ideas. After being an idiot for listening to these moron I gave up and went to a mechanic recommended by a friend. He resolved the issue in two minutes. The service guys here are nice, honest, and do good work. Good prices on oil changes, and reasonable for everything else. One time, we brought one of our cars in to get our safety inspection. He was about to pull it into the garage, when he noticed one our lights was out, which would've made the car fail. He grabbed a new bulb and replaced it, so he wouldn't have to fail us and make us pay for a second inspection. read more

Every single time I go there, nobody ever comes out to pump my gas in the full service lane. I was there the other day and there were 2 workers just sitting inside talking. I normally avoid going here because of MULTIPLE bad experiences like this, but I was desperate and thought I'd give them another chance. It is really aggravating especially since you pay more at the full service pumps and nobody comes out to pump your frigging gas EVER!!!! Will never go back. read more

No....Do Not Take Your Car to this "Mechanic" Why? I was stranded in a strange town when my car stalled and would not restart. I reached out for help and got my hand bitten off. They tried to charge me $350 for an $80 part. Confrontation led to negotiation and I got my car out of there for $200. Before the car was even towed in the owner asserted the problem was a faulty igniter. This is an electronic part that controls ignition and sending a spark to the sparkplugs. When he said he'd install an entire distributor because the part was so expensive I became suspicious so I looked up the part on the Internet and made some phone calls. The part cost $80 and both AutoZone and O'Reilly. After a sleepless night he called me at 7:25 am and again told me the distributor would cost $350. He sounded nervous on the phone when I told him an igniter cost $80. The distributor is where the igniter is housed. He said he would call a parts store and check the price. It appeared the confidence man was losing confidence. When he called back he had his story all prepared. He asserted the igniter was substandard and threatened that he could install it but implied he would not warrantee his work, my car might breakdown again and I'd have to have the car towed again and have the repair done again. He said furthermore that disreputable parts stores were, "popping up everywhere" and undercutting his prices. O'Reilly is highly reputable and award winning- they've been in business since 1957. AutoZone has been in business for 30 years and is the leading retailer of automotive parts in the U.S. In a last ditch attempt to garner sympathy he tried to manipulate me with a sob story about how he had to charge high prices for parts because he, "had to make a living too". I almost fell for it but what struck me was that he was clearly in-the-wrong and he knew it, but there was no sympathy, no apology and no sense of remorse what-so-ever. He was completely focused on his needs and oblivious to mine. I needed an honest mechanic that would charge me fair prices and show technical competence. He proved inadequate on all accounts. The next phone call I got from him he had changed his mind and the problem was not with the igniter. Now he wanted to replace the ignition coil. An ignition coil creates the high voltage and current required to make the spark. This time the price was $200 instead of $350. I didn't bother checking because I knew he was lying. I instead became focused on getting my car out of there, reporting him to the Better Business Bureau and getting advice from an attorney. Their con is to charge high prices for parts while charging a substandard rate for labor. They take advantage of the proliferation of inexpensive sources for parts and then mark them up to obscene levels- in my case 75%. They attempt to shift the blame of the high priced bill from themselves to the parts and the parts suppliers. Finally they called to tell me the car was ready and I went to pick it up. When I arrived they seemed to have sobered considerably. I asked for my car and they repeated themselves by singing out in well practiced unison, "your car is all set to go!". It was laughable. Having thoroughly incriminated themselves, further conversation didn't make any sense. I wasn't buying their act and as far as I was concerned, there was nothing left to be said. I have been to these guys for years, and thought they are honest people. But recently I found out that they are rip off. I've been having oil change, car maintenance, and other car issues here. I thought they are honest, but recently I brought my car in for a muffler replacement. They gave me an estimate, I found out that they raised the price just to order the parts (30% more) compare to the Original part at the Honda dealership. Lucky that my boyfriend told me about it, so I looked up online and called the dealership for the price check. I would go here again for oil change, but not for other car issues. Stopped in here at 9:30 in the morning to get my oil changed. Was in and out in about 20 minutes, which is real good time for an oil change. Cost me about $22, which is a great price (I'm used to paying $30ish). The service guy was cheerful and nice. Since the oil change was so quick and reasonable, on the way out I asked him how easy it would be to get one of my brake-lights replaced (it went out recently). I figured it would take a while and I would have to come back and get it done later. He fixed it in less than 5 minutes, on the spot, for $5 cash. I couldn't have been happier. I use these guys for our 3 cars. Very convenient in the middle of Andover MA. Get a cup of coffee nearby while they change the oil, get an inspection. They have also done other work on my cars. When they see a minor thing that needs fixing, it is often free. They are also friendly. read more
