I wanted to share my recent experience with Hager Fox Heating & Cooling (A Randazzo Company). On Jan 24th I had Hager Fox install a new furnace for me because my old one was too costly to repair. The initial troubleshooting technician I give 5 stars! He did a great job finding the problem and explaining everything to me. The salesman I give 0 stars. He tried to trick me into buying a new AC unit (I will explain more later) and he made wrong measurements of my old unit that resulted in a new duct needing to be fabricated on installation day. Which also resulted in their young driver that delivered the new duct backing up their company van on my lawn and got stuck in the snow. The driver spun the van wheels until it went down to dirt! I emailed pictures of the incident to the salesman and received NO acknowledgement or apology from ANYONE at the company. I wasn't even offered any grass seed to repair the damage. At my initial visit with the salesman, he explained that starting Jan 1st 2025 a new freon is being used on all new AC units. (This is true). He said if I didn't act now, I would pay $1500 more for a new AC unit because that is how much the price will increase because of the new freon/AC units. (That is NOT true). He said the old AC units will be sold out in the next few weeks. (OH, because you know there is going to be a BOGO deal coming up!) I spoke with other heating & cooling companies and they explained that they have been buying and installing the new style AC units for months! One even told me that he pays less for the new units and freon. He also said that Hager Fox is a bigger company and most likely have a large inventory of the old AC units they need to get rid of. During the intimal meeting my wife asked about BOGO free deal they sometimes have? We didn't get a yes or no. We got an explanation on how Randazzo's bought Hager Fox. Wouldn't you know it, just a week after our furnace was installed Hager Fox has BOGO free deal! I called the salesman up to ask if they do anything for people that just got their furnace installed (pertaining to the BOGO deal). He said he was in training and couldn't talk right now but he would look into it for me and get back with me. Not knowing how long he would be in training; I gave him a week to get back with me. The next Monday came and still no call back! I called to office wanting to talk to a manager. EVERYTHING is voice prompt! The best I could do is get a receptionist (I guess that is who it was?) She explained she would send an email to my salesman asking him to call me. She said she would also copy in his manager as well. Today is the 3 days since I called the office and NO return call! The furnace installers I give 3 stars. They were getting ready to leave and I was inspecting their work. I noticed on my bathroom sink next to the furnace room I saw a knob. I asked what was this from? One guy explained they broke the knob off my humidifier. I said what are you guys going to do about that? (Apparently nothing if I didn't notice it!). He said we would have to call the office and have them send the driver out again with another part. So, they send the same person that got stuck in my lawn earlier! Then I notice a pipe that had warm air coming from around it. It had some putty around it but not enough. After I pointed that out, he put more on it. Again, it wouldn't have gotten done if I had not mentioned it! It sure feels like once they got my money that I am not a priority to them anymore. It makes me wonder if I have a problem with my furnace down the road what sort of trouble will I have with them honoring the warranty! read more

We needed to replace our hot water heater due to a leak and sadly, our furnace too. Our basement has a less than stellar layout for this stuff and the team worked around the cement walls and other challenges. Our project took longer than expected but guys from other projects kept showing up to help them finish that day! Since then, they have answered and been responsive to our questions. We purchased a 1 year service agreement on 12/10/2021. Today I called for the yearly FALL maintenance, and I was told they no longer service residential boilers as of this summer". I was NOT informed they no longer do this work until today. She also stated that a service call in early January 2022 already counted as our FALL maintenance, how odd, as it was the dead of winter and just after the yearly maintenance in 2021. Very deceptive!! So they took almost $200 for a service agreement they could only honor for less than year. No refunds, referrals or remedies were offered. Be very careful with their service agreements, they might just eliminate your service also. read more

Our experience started with your salesman who explained the entire process as well as not overselling our needs. He was a great representative for your company. Three hardworking Hagar Fox installers arrived at our home at exactly 8 am, just as promised and began working. They were all very cordial an spent time explaining what they were going to do and how long it would take. They removed our old a/c and furnace in short order and quickly installed our new system. Except for the new equipment, you wouldn't know they were there. They cleaned up everything which was significant considering the amount of work required. WAY OVER PRICED!! WAY OVER PRICED!!! Do I need to say it again?? My furnace needed a hot surface ignitor. I can see on Amazon and other sites that they are between $18.95 and $22.95. I was charged $243.78 for the same part. If you need furnace work shop around. There are less expensive places out there. Gave a very low review due to the incompetent office staff. Made an appointment a month ago for a routine check of the furnace that this company installed 13 months ago and was told the technician would be at my house at 2 PM on 1/11/2018. Technician didn't show by 2:45 PM so I called the company and was told by their receptionist that they don't make scheduled appointments but expect their customers to wait all day long until they show up. I told her it was unacceptable and cancelled the appointment, period. I don't recommend this company and will be looking for another company to service my furnace and air conditioning in the future. read more

When an elderly couple's furnace went out and they were without a furnace and didn't have the resources to heat their house Hager Fox was the first and only company to step up and not only provide a furnace but the labor as well. I was very disappointed in the service from Hager Fox. During a winter storm our heat stopped working so Hager Fox came to look the furnace over. The man was at our home for about 20 minutes and told us we needed a new heating exchange (which was under warranty) OR we could just get a new furnace if the exchange wasn't under warranty for some reason. He also flushed out our pump and got the heat working. The next day a woman from Hager Fox called and told me the heating exchange was indeed under warranty but that we also needed 2 burners. I mentioned that we were not told we would need burners but she insisted we did and the cost would be almost $500 for the burners and labor. I asked for a break down so I would know how much the part was and how much the labor was, she stated they did not do break downs but instead just charged a flat rate. I find this hard to believe that a company doesn't know how much their parts are, do they just make up an amount to charge? At this point I asked her to have the man (who came out) call me to explain why we needed burners so she agreed he would call. We never got the phone call. After a second opinion, it was found out that our pump line just needed to be cleared and there was nothing wrong with our heating exchange or burners. What a disappointment that this company tried to take advantage of us. read more

This is the second time friends of mine (not associated with each other) have had problems with this business. The latest is a friend that is on a fixed income. She purchased and installed a Bryant Furnace in 2014 from Hager Fox. Last year (12/24/2018) after calling Hager Fox a technician was sent out. The thermostat stayed a low setting and would not get any higher. The technician stated it was a code 13 as the problem and supposedly fixed the problem. A few days later the same problem was happening she called Hager Fox several times and kept being told this was happening because of the cold spell we were having i.e. not the furnace. She was so frustrated she again told me. I thought this is strange here I live on a farm, house faces the west, no houses around, house is over 100 years old, and I don't have that problem. So after hearing her I called Hager Fox myself. I talked with Carla and she was very knowledgeable! She told me things to check like the outside vent to see if it was plugged with ice or snow, furnace filters if they needed changing, etc., but she did remark that it could be the weather or the thermostat, or service person was needed. I relayed this message to my friend that had already paid Hager Fox 95.00 for the previous service call. I advised her who I used, since she was so frustrated. She called the company I recommended and the technician came out. This was the problem Bryant had with that particular model and certain parts were under warranty to be replaced. It took him over six hours to replace all the parts not including going after the parts. The code was 31 NOT 13. He charged her 402.00, when Hager Fox charges 95.00 for first hour and another fee for the rest of the time spent. I told her I was writing this because "YES" I have to agree Hager Fox is overpriced on their furnaces because my previous friends showed me what they were charged. And they told me NEVER GO THERE they are a rip off. This technician that came out in Dec. apparently either transposed the code, didn't want the hassle of a warranty job, or had another job to go to. On 8/7/2018 I had Hagar Fox diagnose a no hot water complaint on a rental property I own, because State Select has them listed as a servicer for their products. The problem was the pilot light would go out from time to time, for no obvious reason. The tech inspected the water heater and after discussing the situation with me, we decided the thermocouple should be replaced. The estimate for this repair is 770.09 dollars. To replace a thermocouple/burner assembly. No, that is not a typo. So, knowing this is totally out of the realm of reality, I decided to do some of my own due diligence. The most expensive thermocouple assembly for ANY water heater that I can find is 156 dollars. So lets say we triple that number, even though a typical thermocouple is only about 12 bucks. This would be approx. 450 dollars, meaning 320 dollars would be labor. This component takes about 15 minutes to replace. I don't see this as honest business, and I'm glad I know better. I wont be calling them back. Ever. read more

I took advantage of the $79 preseason AC tune up. The technician took over and told me everything was good. Then went on to tell me that since both the furnace and AC were 20 years old I should get new and get soon because if I waited they would be too busy to install. A week later I turned on my AC and it wouldn't cool. I called a friend who called a friend who came on a Saturday to look at it. He said wires were frayed ( which were obvious as soon as he took the cover off) and a switch was burnt. He replaced both and checked back on Sunday to see how it was working. He was concerned there might be a leak in a hose because freon was low (something else that should've been caught by tuneup). He checked again a week later and freon was stable so no leak but it needed freon. We took pictures of the two problems and I called HagerFox service manager. I told him everything, he asked for the pictures and said he'd refund me. Two weeks later no refund. Ironically, a neighbor also got the tuneup and the following week was getting a new AC and furnace. Seems like a scam. Hook you in w a tuneup, rig your system so it doesn't work, hopefully you'll call for new system. Not using them anymore for a tuneup!! read more
