It is my understanding they have been in business for almost four decades The elephants are on display in glass display cases in the back of the store. There is full sized animated elephant outside in front of the store. It provides a great photo opportunity for the little ones The store is chock full of candy, ranging from hard candy to chocolate covered raisins, peanuts and just about everything in between. The candy and chocolates are sold prepackaged and loose for added convenience, as well as offering candy dispensers. They offer nostalgic candies as well, such as candy sticks and candy buttons on paper strips. At the front counter, they also offer store made fudge and chocolates. The store is packed tight with all kinds of candies and novelties. The parking lot is small and can easily get full during busy times such as weekends and warmer weather. There are restrooms in the rear of the store. I definitely recommend this store especially for young families and those young at heart.

Military Museum [Frederick MD]…read more We had some time on our last day in MD before heading to the airport... from Linthicum Heights we drove some 50 miles to Frederick. We found a spot on a metered street parking in front of the museum. Admission is $9.50/adult. The museum is dedicated to telling the medical story of the Civil War. There are a lot to see... and learn. The exhibits were great and educational. We learned how the creation of Civil War medicine impacted the present day. Each gallery offered different exhibits following through the footsteps of the soldiers and surgeons and the harsh conditions and personal sacrifices they went through. I can't even imagine how they evacuate the wounded... an "ambulance" then was a wagon pulled by two horses and carted off to a medical facility. Or how about how they did amputations, amputations were the most common surgical operation during the conflict with more than 60,000 being performed. The wounded soldiers suffered different mortality rates depending on where the amputation took place on the body. There are two floors of exhibits. Stairs and an elevator are accessible to the top floor. There are bathrooms on both levels. I am not in the medical field and found the museum very interesting and educational. It is not somewhere to take kids, especially toddlers, because they could easily grab the spiked pods and injure themselves. We will not be coming back here and do not recommend this spot at all, especially if you have small children. Hopefully, for their sake, they are able to get rid of the weeds next year.

We poked around the building like trespassers for a minute before a fellow came out and offered to give us a tour of the house. It's incredible how hard people must have worked to find all the time period appropriate antiques and paintings to adorn the halls and give the visitor the most authentic experience as well. The antiques and paintings alone are worth the visit-many paintings are done by Peale and the family. Very important pieces of Americana. Having survived different historical periods the house and the tour guide can speak to revolutionary efforts as well as the Civil War atrocities-even boasted a probably haunted field hospital in the attic! This particular tour guide who took us around was a blessing. We shown general interest (and asked nicely) and he even showed us a part of the house with the underground tunnels preserved! We both really appreciated his time and knowledge and even though the tour was free we gave him $20. And it was the best $20 we spent on our little weekend. The decor includes an eclectic mix of items from different time periods which is unfortunate since it is always more interesting to walk into a snapshot from the past. In this case I wish it was more reflective of of the time our towns founder lived there. With that said, most of the interior was genuine to his time period. Some of the guides were very knowledgeable and others could have been better prepared. There also seems to be nothing owned by the general himself. I do understand how hard it is to find funding for a project like this and the volunteers have done a wonderful job on the budget they have. I am thankful we have people in our community willing to give their time to preserving these sites for us. I hope the residents of Martinsburg will be generous in support of this worthwhile project. So we can make this a five star historical site.

To start, the farm has an absolutely huge property it sits on with lots of different activities - a barn, a jumping pad, etc. We have had a one and a two year old at these events, and I do think this location is better suited for an older child. There is A LOT of walking in between these activities that is hard for a very little one. The terrain is up and down with paths that have large puddles and dents in the mud, so also not suitable for a stroller or wagon. There's a large dead space between parking and the first bit of activities, which I wish they would do something with personally. Next, the value of the ticket. The ticket prices can be steep, but you can shave some money off with discount codes and buying before you go. Again, I think with an older child and buying a discounted ticket, it is worth it. We did not get pumpkins in the fall, but we did get flowers in the summer and they were absolutely gorgeous. We had a great time picking them and the staff is so friendly. Last wish item I have for this place is food! They really only have drinks and popcorn (at least when we have been there).
