Chicken, Shrimp & Steak hibachi with white rice
    Andrea G.

Second time visiting and the first visit was definitely better than the second. Both times I ordered the Shrimp, Chicken & Steak Hibachi meals. The first time the shrimp and steak were cooked perfectly but the chicken was super dry. Second time the steak was a little overdone, chicken dry and the shrimp was mushy. For $15+ dollars I expect my food to be cooked well. I do appreciate that they ask how you want your steak cooked. I asked for medium well. It was definitely chewy. I will note that the fried rice is good, though. Also ordered the Spring Rolls. I loved how their spring rolls only have vegetables in them, as some other restaurants in the area have pork in theirs. I did think $4.25 for 3 spring rolls was a bit much but in the end they were worth it. Nice and crispy, oily but not too much and good flavor. Just wished they lasted longer or were cheaper so I could've ordered more. Got the Sesame Chicken with fried rice ($7.95) for my kids. Seems like a lunch size to me & only came with 2 small pieces of broccoli on the side. The flavor of the chicken was good but again, the chicken itself was dry! Wanted to get some sushi so I tried the California Roll ($4.75) & I think this was the best item I have gotten. Tasted really fresh and came with sides of soy sauce, ginger strips and wasabi. Good price for 6. Overall decent for the convenience of having hibachi to take home. But their prices for the quality should be adjusted. I would like to try their sushi burritos but not sure I'll order the shrimp again. Maybe just stick to their filet mignon or steak. Few things to note: The restaurant is only taking drive thru orders which is fine because of the convenience. Doesn't take long for the food to come out either. I can appreciate the fresh cooking over pre-cooked food sitting out all day waiting to be served to someone. They do require you to wear a mask once you get to the drive thru window (huge sign on the window stating it.)

Drive thru sushi?! Came here for the first time on the Fourth of July end it was great! Their only option to order is through the drive-through and it was very convenient. Everything we had [Spring rolls, 2 sushi rolls, & a sushi burrito] was made to order & they automatically gave us packets of soy sauce and duck sauce. I'll come here again next time I'm in the area.California Roll

Ok. I came here before and walked out because I couldn't fathom a drive thru sushi joint. Well u couldn't dismiss the tons of great reviews so I came back.....and I'm glad I did. Service was super quick. They do serve their food in plastic plates. I ordered the spicy tuna and it was pretty good. There was a crunch to it that I enjoy. I forgot what they're called: I also ordered the filet and shrimp. The only thing was that presentation was pretty sloppy and there was too much sauce and not a lot of rice. The flavors were there though. For the price is the filet and shrimp I think there should be more rice since that's the cheapest component of the meal. Will probably come back again.

Hibachi chicken. Get this if you're dyin' for it, otherwise just stick with SUSHI BURRITOS and other sushi related items

The turnover of restaurants in any given location can be a regular occurrence. Same holds true for 3215 N. 5th Street Highway, which was in the not-so -distant past home to the ubiquitous Taco Bell. Therefore, the new tenants inherited a dining room, kitchen ... and drive thru window. The concept of ordering Asian cuisine via drive thru had always been intriguing to me, and I had always wondered why no such place existed in Berks County. Hadn't anyone heard of Panda Express? They seem to be doing ok. Well, my hopes and wishes were at long last fulfilled with the opening of Haiku Hibachi. And while the drive thru window is a marvelous quirk, what truly enticed me was something found on the menu - sushi burritos. I've been living on this earth for 30 odd years, and out of nowhere the gods bestowed upon me the ability to order a SUSHI BURRITO at a DRIVE THRU WINDOW. Now, I didn't actually do this - I decided to eat inside for the first time. But you bet your ass I'm going to make future runs out there and damn it if I'm not going to order a sushi burrito from the comfort of my car. To clarify any confusion about what this place is - it's an "order at the counter" type of joint. There are no severs, per se. Someone will run the food out to you. But no one actually waits on you. Think of it as a Japanese fast food. There is also no hibachi cooking table, like at the full service restaurants. The menu has "hibachi" plates, but they do all the actual cooking in the back, out of sight. So don't come here with a big party thinking you can get the whole hibachi experience. It's a clean place with a sharp, modern interior. They have an extensive menu of sushi items, and 10 variations of sushi burritos. I can't wait to try them all!

    Seaweed salad.. and lettuce -_-

I really only attend Haiku if I need sushi, but my wallet also needs a break. It's in an old Taco Bell. It's also a drive through. They use paper utensils ( ) Ehat do you expect? They have a decent assortment of special rolls, but again nothing nearly as fancy as say Tokyo or Mikura. I never question the freshness of the fish either. You order, sit down, and they bring you your food, but you clean up after yourself. Which is fine by me. It's just nothing special, and even though I save money, I always find myself wanting more. Oh and that seaweed salad on lettuce.. come on. Scrap the lettuce and give me more of the goods. It's also a little below average in the taste factor. So come if you're not bougie when it comes to sushi. As for me, I'll save up the extra cash for Tokyo.

Real sushi made by actual Japanese people. It's a win. Reasonably priced, made to order.

I regularly get the sushi lunch specials. Very fresh and good prices. For some reason they have been out of yellowtail for a while though.

No longer Broken Chair - but pretty wobbly. West Brew…read moreIzakaya arrives in the old neighborhood, renamed and refreshed. First crisp winter winds in late November ventured us to warm our bellies- What better way than with a drink and a soup! We decided on West Brew. There was a crowd around as we entered and was quite full for our seating at 6pm. We sat at the last 2 seats left, at the bar. Various unique decisions towards drinks- PA local liquors, some of Broken's recipe beers, bubble tea and sakes- how fun! My husband ordered the Passionfruit Green Tea (spiked- love this idea!) and I tried a Sake flight. The bubble tea came in a reusable Takkii tumbler. Sweet and fun. My sakes were intro'ed and each described on a tasting card. Sakes aren't seen everywhere, so it was great to have the chance to try. Then we ordered food. Needed to sample and see- So we started with the Appetizer Bento Box. This arrived quickly and presented tastefully. Freshly fried. But fried just all tasting the same. Including the gyoza. The shrimp tempura was a recommend. The tempura batter was not heavy or chewy, it was flaked. The seaweed salad needed brightness in acid. Overall, the app- good. If craving a fried feast, get it. We put in for our ramen bowls at the time of the app order. I ordered the Shoyu bowl and my husband the Spicy Fried Chicken Ramen. After the app was cleared, my ramen came within a few minutes. However, we eat when full party is served. So I sat, warm bowl calling.....since my husband was not served. Sat and stared. We stayed waiting for another 15 minutes and his finally arrived. Eating with my eyes for so long, my ramen bowl looked great. Then discovered how it tasted in comparison..... Best word is lackluster. Ramen - give me a broth. A power broth. Flavor, bang! This flavor boo. The broth needed longer development and depth. For both of our bowls. The soft boiled eggs were chewy-gooey soy in a good way. This was our favorite bite of the bowls. The chicken for my husband's had no spice and appeared exactly as the same fried chicken bites in the app sampler. Here's where it lied with the ramen- as served, it was good. Once it sat it was better. We were quite full from the app, so we had large takeaways for the ramen- leftovers were better than our initial meal. That again lends to the broth needing more time. Besides, Here's where it hurts- And where the review score derives- The buzz we considered for West Brew actually swarmed as fruit flies we consistently observed around the bar. And had to shoo away as we ate and drank. Mind you- we kept polite and just tolerated. Appearance towards good housekeeping was behind the bar, yet this still leads to question cleanliness, upkeep and accountability of any establishment. We do hope by now they have this problem resolved. West Brew has done a wonderful job of promoting and presenting their new restaurant, which is why we wanted to dine in. The food was not exceptional enough to overtake the issues of time and pest management. For the love of West Reading, hoping for improvements West Brew.

Totally on point, it was comfy, stylish, and zero awkward table jockeying. Service was friendly, with a tiny "wait, who ordered what?" moment, but honestly it just added a little comedy to our evening. Overall: great beer, amazing ramen, chill vibes, and enough charm to make me want to come back next time I'm in the area. Ramen game officially upgraded.

But when Masa arrived, it changed the whole town's dynamic. MIkura was basically banished into the nether realm. Their hibachi tables are way too cramped. If your two favorite things are the wise-cracking, egg-balancing-on-the-spatula, cheery on the outside but everyone knows is depressed on the inside hibachi chef and claustrophobia, then this place is for you. Tokyo has been the king for the longest time, but Masa is a true powerhouse in its own right. It's fairly obvious the scales are tipping in Masa's favor these days, for if you were to ask an acquaintance about where they'd like to go for your pre-arranged sushi lunch that you had planned for weeks and miraculously neither of you bailed, nearly every time that person would say Masa. Speaking of lunch, the specials here are what keep me coming back. Three rolls for $13, hibachi combos (i.e. chicken, veggies, fried rice, soup) also for $13, and their Lunch Wok & Grill Platters (protein, Cali roll, dumpling, rice, and soup) for $12. Bonkers. There are still good deals out there, just gotta know where to look. The hibachi experience is top notch. Here you get a proper amount of space, heck, you might even go as far to say an abundance. And that's how it should be. Lots of room, not cramped up next to the other tables, where you get splattered from their oil and feel the burn from their onion volcanos. Must say, I quite dig this place. For the life of me I can't think of a single thing I dislike. Bravo, Masa, you are now the king of hibachi in Reading, PA.
