The hike has some decent incline on the way back to your car, so bring your water! The trail itself is pretty shaded so it can be chilly. Dog friendly! Limited parking so be ready for a little wait. I went during one of the lowest tides of the year, and I saw a lot of sea life. I saw sea cucumbers, sea stars, fish, countless sea anemones, etc. On the walk back, I even saw a ginormous moon snail. There were incredible views of the water and sand. It's super refreshing to relax here. Do note that you have to climb a fenced overpass across some railroad tracks, so if you're nervous about heights, don't look down! The washrooms here weren't well stocked with soap when I visited, but it might be because of the sheer volume of visitors. Multiple car parks were full. It's great to see that everyone is so interested in nature!

I could see the seal bobbing in the distance. Despite this area being a sanctuary for the marine wildlife, it is a busy area with ferry going back and off, and boats sailing in the area. Add the constant train noise. It is not a quiet peaceful place. So I was just taking pictures and videos. Then I looked down at the rocks where the water was pretty clear and saw this seal swimming past. I managed to take a video. So cool. This place is also popular with divers. That means parking lot is always full. Your best best is to park a few blocks away and walk over.

They would walk us places for adventures during the week and Yost Park and Pool were one of the places we got to adventure. I enjoyed it then and still enjoy it now over two decades later. The pool itself is well built to be child friendly. It is in a stout 'L' shape with 25 yards in shallow to mid-depth waters. Very nice when one is young. The water as I remember it is cold, not a bad thing just a shock to the system to those who were not accustomed to it. Above the pool there are tennis courts, picnic tables, and a playground. There is also a sloped grassy area around the pool, but not one to play sports on really. I most recently visited Yost Park on Wednesday the 8th of July 2020 with my mom. Steep trails can freak her out a bit. One of the nice things about the trail system at Yost is that railings are provided in areas where the trail is steeper. Helpful in keeping one's balance and providing support while going up or down a hill. Signage along the trails provide warnings to heed especially when it is rainy and the trails can be slick as well as historical information about the park. We saw a chipmunk, a variety of birds, squirrels, and different plants on our visit last Wednesday. If driving here, make sure to check under your car before you leave so as to not run over and kill any critters who might be under it. I found a gray squirrel exploring under my car when my mom and I went to leave. Happy to wait for the little critter to continue on its way before driving off so it can live. Fun place to bond with the wildlife!

The park itself is great for exercise as several of the trails have good incline so you can get a bit of a workout. I stopped short of giving 5 stars because I have encountered screaming groups of children several times who trample the vegetation off-trail and in the dry creek bed and it is very annoying that the adults supervising them allow this. I found an abundance of different wildlife out and about at Lynndale Park this morning, arrived…read moreabout 7:07 a.m. on Thursday 25 May 2023, and the sun was shining and warm. After missing one of the parking areas, I turned up the road by a sign along the street for the park. Just up the road and to the right is a small parking area abutting a paved area with basketball hoops and benches, a small red restroom building, a skate park, and a playground. Mine was the only car in the parking lot both when I arrived and when I left. Up the hills by the skate park is a trail into the woods. On a stump just in the trees was a chickaree (North American red squirrel). In addition to the first red squirrel, I heard others calling from the trees as I walked. The trees along the trails are tall and provided protection from the rays of the sun. Shade cast on the ground was cool. Along the trails were different flowers in bloom and ripening salmonberries. In my approximately half an hour at the park, I encountered vocal sparrows, a rufous-sided towhee, a bunny rabbit, a gray squirrel, and foraging woodpeckers. All around an enjoyable morning adventure.

We rented our gear from the dive shop right in front with two tanks and got into the water at 5pm. We were lucky that day as the waves were calm and visibilitiy was 40-50 ft. The good thing was the walk at the sand was short but the surface swim to the first buoy before we sank down was a 10 min swim and easy to cramp up in cold waters. We saw enormous groupers, sunken ships, crabs, large sea slugs and my boyfriend even claimed he saw a seal pop his head up to the surface when we were swimming back to shore. The best recommendation for this dive is to call the dive shop in advance to check if other divers said the visibility that day was good - makes a world's difference!

The Park is a phenomenal dive location due to the significant number and types of marine life that are visible day and night. So come on down and introduce yourself to Mr. Bruce. Bring your gear and give some time to maintaining the Park. You'll have a great time and Bruce and everyone that dives there will appreciate the help. S

It can get a bit…read morebusy at times and it may be difficult to find a place to sit if you are looking to sit at one of the picnic benches. It is in a residential neighborhood, so it can also get quiet busy with kids at times. We would wait for quiet times when I was growing up and my parents would bring me and my sister here and to the adjacent Rest Lawn to learn to ride our bicycles. I preferred the paved surface of the roads on the Rest Lawn, but I learned to get started and stop on grass (at this park) as that is harder than starting on smooth surfaces. In the long term that worked out because learning to ride my bike on paved surfaces was a lot easier once I got going on grass. We'd make an effort to come during the day when most people were eating or at off hours on the weekends. Now the field in Hickman Park is turf. Be mindful what time of day you visit as the park draws different crowds at different days/times. The playground is temporarily closed due to COVID-19, but the rest of the park is open.

There is a grill, covered shelter area electricity,bathrooms and plenty of picnic tables. Separated enough for privacy but close to play area to watch your kids. The price was fare and we had a great reunion. This would be a good choice for any outdoor family function of 40 or less. The only minus is Parking is a bit limited.
