Terrible appointment several years ago. Owner made a mistake with the color, causing my hair to turn a weird maroon color. She first made me feel like my hair just needed toner. She acted like it was the fault of my hair. Instead of not charging me - since it clearly was her error - she charged me and I tipped her stupidly. The following appointment she applied toner to my hair. She did finally tell me she put the wrong color on my hair. That was the end of that hair salon and owner. Surprised she's still open. That was clearly very unprofessional. I still cringe when I pass by that shop! read more

Rosie's great! I split my hair services (color at one, cut another, extensions at another one) so I only see Rosie when my usual girl is booked. She's kind and fast and easy to talk to. The salon itself needs a facelift, it's huge which is nice but they could do so much more with the space. Parking is never an issue and my appts run on time. read more

I was looking for a great hair salon in my new neighborhood. I'm so happy to have find Debbie and her beautiful salon right in the middle of town, with all the shops and restaurants near by. I called to schedule an appointment for a haircut over the phone. He asked about my hair and I explained the length and he proceeded to tell me hair cut was going to $65. I arrive and get my hair washed mind you they don't have a wash person so the stylist washed and cut my hair. Now we move over to the stylist chair and in the middle of her doing my hair she has to stop and walk away to wash color out of her other clients hair. ( I didn't mind). After cutting and blowing out my hair I get to the register expecting to pay 65 like I was told over the phone and he proceeds to tell me it's 95?!?! I said for what reason since I was told over the phone it would be 65. He replied to me say well I don't have a magic 8 ball over the phone so the length you had you have a lot of hair and it took more time?!? Mind you YOUR stylist left me hanging so she can was her other clients! At that point he's like well I'll give you a discount we'll make it 85$. And no point during my haircut or brushing out process did he stop and come over to me to explain listen I misquoted you etc it was going to cost more money. You can't just makeup prices whenever you feel like it . I have no issues with the stylist or my haircut but the lack of communication is awful and they seem to think they can charge people whatever they feel like it. read more

Do NOT let the owner of this salon cut your hair!!!....I showed a picture, pointed to my shoulder blade close to my shoulder where I wanted the length of my hair to be. We agreed that she would cut ONLY 1 inch off know that the back would be a little more since it was longer. Right now my hair is just an inch shorter than my chin. Upset doesn't come close to how I feel right now. She (Debbie) had the nerve to tell me "it needed it"...not up to her. She does not inspire trust or confidence. This is exactly what you need in order to be in this business. On top of that, the website quotes a cost of $55/$60 for a women's hair cut. I was charged $65. I am guessing the reason being she is the owner. I did NOT ask for that. If your smart your will not patronize this salon. I am not one to make a scene so I will vent here. Nancy C. read more

Hair Above is amazing! Debbie gave me the best cut and color of my life. She is a seasoned professional, who is up to date on hair trends, willing to give advice, but also takes your direction, and truly loves what she does. Debbie wants to make your hair look great, not just get a tip. I have incredibly thick hair that usually takes hours for a hairdresser to dye and cut, but Debbie finished my hair in no time at all. She also gave me personalized tips and tricks on how to tame my hair. The other employees are just as informed, pleasant, and committed to their work. They care about their customers and community and are truly a local staple with the utmost professional services and abilities. I recently moved to Glen Cove and did not have a salon in my previous neighborhood that I was happy with, so I checked reviews for best hair cuts and color locally. Debbie's name at A Hair Above Salon came up repeatedly. It was also very close to my home. Unusual for LI, she does color and cut herself. There are 2 other stylists in this family run salon that has apparently been in Glen Cove for many years. Debbie listened to my color and cut descriptions and came very close to ideal for a first visit, and results have only gotten better with longer acquaintance. Any imperfections are graciously repaired. Her blow out was also one of the best in my life! Since then, Debbie has been cutting and coloring my hair and both other stylists have done blow outs, all with excellent results. I wish I knew about this talented group of people a very long time ago! The only negative is that since Christmas, they are only open Wednesday to Saturday, so appointments have to be scheduled far in advance!! I hope they don't cut back further, it took many years to find them, replacement will be impossible! I have seen 3 generations of family members in the salon together. They can accommodate anyone and do the best blow outs ever!!! read more

I came in for a much needed haircut and a change in style and my hair stylist Debbie was more than accommodating to what I wanted done. My hair turned out fantastic and I couldn't be happier with the way it turned out. I will definitely be back again soon! I finally got the courage to have my hair cut. I moved to this neighborhood around March right before the COVID outbreak. So, it is a long overdue visit. The staff were very nice. Most importantly, they are people respect the public's goods and science. They got COVID test, kept the place neat and organized and not crowded. Yes, ideally I do want the hair dresser take a little bit longer to trim my hair and make it fancier all that. But realistically, I just want to have a quick and simple cut. So, no complain. Definitely will visit them again during my stay at Glen Cove. read more

I am from out of own, so no time to try different stylists, etc. I couldn't have been happier with Flo the stylist. She did an outstanding job, with little direction. I am from out of town and tried this salon based on reviews. Great experience -- Rosie actually listened (not as common as you'd think for hair stylists!) and was very professional and competent. She also was polite and didn't complain about my hair like some other hair stylists have done at different salons in the past. I definitely plan to return when I am back in town! read more
