This picture is of me literally walking out of the door of the salon after my visit. Paid $71 for this mess only to go home and personally do my own press and curl. My mom went here the day before and only paid 18 bucks for the same exact treatments I had (wash, , deep condition, blow dry, trim, press and curl). Of course I didn't find out until after my salon visit that she paid no where near my amount (she had a senior citizen discount but it still doesn't excuse the overcharge). I should have known something was up when the educator asked me to pay some of the amount in cash and not all on my card. This is giving me signs of scamming. I paid for a deep condition yet not a cap or hooded dryer was used in the process. Makes me wonder if they just used regular conditioner instead of a deep conditioner. It didn't even sit on my hair for a minute before it was rinsed out. My hair was extremely tangled and dry after the wash and conditioner to the point my scalp was hurting as the stylist was combing it. I have 4c hair so moisture is essential on natural hair (but hey, I'm not the expert). I use Aussie moisturize deep conditioner at home and I know how my hair should feel afterwards and how nice the comb should be able to glide through. Called and spoke with the educator after my visit (didn't get her name but sounds like same one that took my money) and questioned the difference in prices and the deep condition treatment. She states (with an extremely long pause to the point I thought that she hung up), "due to my hair density and length I was charged this amount" and "their conditioning products are so good that you don't need to sit under dryer." Of course I don't believe this (but won't argue with her). I was charged based on density and length before anyone touched my head? Additionally, my moms hair is longer than mine. I arrived there with a wash and go ponytail so my hair shrinks to my head that you can't even determine the length or density by looking at it. So this is bogus. I usually stand clear of salons because of my anxiety due to horrible experiences (in particular people not knowing how to care for natural hair) and this has added to it. I will just continue to do my own hair as I usually do for all this headache. read more

VERY VERY GHETTO! Just don't. I used to go to the New Carrollton branch for years and they were a bit more professional. I started coming here because it's closer but HONEY! They don't communicate well, there is no reception, nor Wi-Fi The girls doing hair are not supervised at all. I had one do a deep conditioner and didn't even know what that was!!! At a hair school?!?! And she also didn't know to sit me under the dryer with the deep conditioner. I could go on but the instructors and staff ought to be ashamed for real. Do not go. read more

Today Saturday due to all the rain, I waiting until around noon to go to the hair school just for 8 cornrows to my original hair, I came from Waldorf to Iverson Mall. I got in the school at 12:54 signed in and was like yes only one other person sitting down waiting and they close at 3:00. No one at the desk then a lady came and I said hello cuz she was looking at me like ah ok, i said i would like to have my hair cornrow, just 8 cornrows, a part down the middle and 4 on each side, she repeated what i said then said we cant take anyone else because we close at 1, I said 1, i thought you close at 3, she said yes but we take the last client at 1 and its almost 1 and you have one person before you. I said i'm only getting my own hair cornrowed, 8 cornrows will take less than 30 minutes and there is no one that can do 8 cornrows. She said no, i left out of there. I know for a fact that isnt true because i've been going there for years but its normally 2 or 3of the other ladies who I didnt see there. I drove from Waldorf just not to get my hair done. They shouldnt have people working for them lying to the customers because they want to leave early for their own weekend agenda, she wasnt even customer service friendly. It clearly says on their website that if you want chemicals in your hair you must arrive no later than 1:30 on a Saturday. I was just getting cornrows, shampoo blow dry and cornrows. The website says they close at 3:00 pm, period. She was lying and we customers have to suffer due to her agenda. read more

U understand ur there to help students out .. not to get cheap styling just because u don't want to pay .. then ur mad over something small. A CIRCUS! I would give 0 stars if I could. The place is Ghetto with a capital G! I attended the school as a student. Instructors are terrible and they are constantly firing them instead of training them. You graduate cosmetology with knowing how to roller set and blow dry. THATS IT!!! Students constantly burn hair out or chop up styles because instructors aren't supervising. The Director/Owner April Walker can care less about the students and or staff. She doesn't help nor interact with anyone and is all about her money. I am currently enrolled and attending Hair Academy II. I will start with my enrollment process. I was enrolled by Ms. Binta who was very responsive to any questions I had about enrollment. She was pleasant and made sure I understood what I was signing. I see her almost every day. She always speaks to me and ask me am I doing okay. Ms. Sonia, was very good at explaining the financial part of what the school cost, loans and anything that's related to financials. Her door is always open for questions, she will come and look for you instead of letting any small financial issues become a problem and she is very solutions oriented. Ms. Tramia has been very helpful with making sure I had a locker to store my items and she makes sure my hours are correct each month to avoid any issues.Mr. Tommy, I haven't had any issues with Hair Academy so I cannot really speak on any personal experiences I have had with him. But I must admit that in most schools no one really know who the Director is because they sit behind closed doors. Not Mr. Tommy I see him everyday and he is very involved in the school day to day. Ms. Zabrina, is very pleasant and always greeting me when I come in. When she is the instructor on the floor and if she notices me struggling, she will walk over and show me a more easier way. And I can always ask her to show me how to complete a hair style and she is willing to answer my questions about hair. Ms. Angie, who is one of the day instructors. I was nervous my first week of class. But she explained to me that it was a learning environment and if I needed any help or questions to make sure I ask questions. I have also had the opportunity to sit in on a few of her theory lessons and it was a great. I don't work with her everyday but If she is around and I have questions I feel comfortable enough to go to her. Mr. Shemar, who is one of my night instructors keeps everyone on their toes. He loves cosmetology, always energetic and very knowledgeable. He is very big on teaching us how to be professional in the salon word as well as making sure we keep up with the latest hair trend. I can ask Shemar about anything and if I look confused his next line is "let me show you" He is always smiling and joyful. If you are on the floor and he sees that you are doing something wrong, he will not let you continue to do it wrong he will correct you in the most polite manner and that always give me the confidence to do better. That's why he will always be respected. Mrs. LaTanya, is another one of my night instructors. Ms. LaTanya is a no non-sense instructor. She is always making up creative ways to teach Theory, she lets us know test dates in advance. When she is teaching us all about cosmetology she makes sure she show us as well as give examples. Because she has been a in the cosmetology field for years she can always answer you most bizarre questions. She make sure that you are comfortable with doing hair before she places you on the floor. She also encourage us to take other cosmetology classes on our own to be the most well rounded hair artist. If you miss class she will make sure that you are okay and reiterate the promise that you made to complete the program because she wants everyone to be successful. We have a lot of fun while working and I adore her because there is never a judgement zone only a learning zone.As far as the hair clinic goes. IT'S A SCHOOL, THIS IS WHERE LEARNING MISTAKES HAPPEN. If you want a perfect cut then go to a licensed salon. I don't like the negative reviews about how someone messed your hair up. Again this is a school. Everyone gets something out of the deal. We get the experience, and you get deeply discounted prices. In a learning environment, you get what you pay for. PERIOD!There is no such thing as a perfect school. All schools have or has had ghetto employees and students, unprofessional leaders, overworked or underpaid instructors and teachers. However, If you are apart of the problem then don't speak on how terrible a school may be. But if you are attending school and minding your business then you would only notice what you are doing and how you need to improve as a student. If a school is that bad voice your opinion to the director and hold him accountable. And at that point if you don't see a change revisit it and then weigh your options. As a student I've noticed that most of the people who complain are some of the people I see wondering around the mall, not in class, coming to school late or not at all and then expect for instructors to drop everything when they come to class and ask for help. This is adult learning no one is going to hold your hand and make you do a trade that you signed up for. You are responsible for your own success. I attend school regularly. I am in Hair Academy II for esthetics. Since I been here this program has had 5 different teachers and has decided to give the new students starting today a better $400 something product line in their student kits. (To take home to practice) that makes mine look like nothing. Forget the students already in class that's been here. They have been giving us this "so what", "it is what it is" attitude towards our frustration and anger that our kits was way cheaper and break you out or done work good. I Love it Here!!!!! I am in Esthetics here at the school after reading some of the reviews of current and past students they have issues. Before I enrolled into the program the Admissions Rep. gave me a tour of the entire school, in each admission office there is a kit for each program on display to see exactly what you will receive in your kit. To my understanding the kits needed to changed because of some vendor issues beyond the schools control. I was one of the people when received an old kit which was fine because that was all they had to offer at the time I enrolled. Once they changed the vendor and got new products I was given the option to purchase them at a cost and I did because I had already received a full kit when I stated. So there wasn't a big deal to get the new items especially for FREE I wasn't entitled to get them. There has been a change of Instructors but some of them needed to go. To my knowledge they were having personal issues and needed to take care of that. I still keep in contact with most of them they continue to be helpful. I am still getting the quality instruction as promised from my Admissions Rep. I feel well prepared for State board especially after my fellow classmate has PASSED her Exam and is now a licensed Esthetician/ Barber which she graduated both programs from here YES Girl. My car was one of the cars that got broken into during the holiday season, but that is definitely a problem that the school could not control. The school is located inside a Shopping Mall. I have attended the esthetics program here since October 1, 2018 and I'm trying to find something nice to say...give me one sec....initially I was super excited to start this program. It was not my first choice in the school selection pile just off location alone but, it was close to my home and affordable so I gave it a shot. Like the previous post regarding kits. The back story is...we used to used Sanitas...majority of their products were breaking folks out so the teachers switched out Sanitas brand for Bio elements brand. We did keep some Sanita stuff but, the focus is on Bio elements. So fast forward....Our teacher did mention that the new students will be getting bio elements kits but, never once did she even ask the 3-4 other students if they would like a kit...even if that meant we'd have to pay out of pocket for it...All tea all shade...Our contracts look the same as the new students...Price wise...so if they getting new kits we should've gotten the same thing...especially if the new focus is this brand. Not to mention...we had to take a test just to even USE the products in class so for a whole new class to come in and just get handed a 25lb box of PROFESSIONAL USE ONLY products without having to test was a problem for ME...it went like this...our teacher bought it up...never even giving us the option to get the kit...she referred me to the person who enrolled me...Ms. Binta...Ms. Binta referred me to Eisha...I didn't particularly appreciate her candor on the phone at all but, she referred me to financial aid...financial aid pinged me back to Ms. Eisha...at that point I was told I could get the kit but, would have to pay out of pocket $340 for it...I told her I'd pay for it but, it'd be after I spoke to the director about it first because I felt like I shouldn't have had to pay for it if my contract was like the new students...so fast forward... I meet with the director she was very kind and understanding and apologetic for the drama...she ran me a "open boxed" kit. She said she was checking to see if I had everything...I didn't check behind her because she said she did already. When I unpacked my kit at home. I was missing bowls, a fan brush, blue, scoops, and spatulas...now I'm just fed up...because my teacher is playing games with me and my kit and I'm just not in the mood...If I'm going to have to pay for it in full you have no right to touch anything...I could go on and on about the issues I'm having with this school at the moment but, I simply don't have the time...The teachers should be more interested in teaching instead of gossiping about students to other students and being completely messy. read more
