Decided to swing by this spot close to my residence upon my friend's recommendation. Bummed about the fact that I never got the names of the wonderful persons who did their magic work on me but I had an amazing experience there - got my bangs trimmed and eyebrows waxed. I feel so seen and well taken care of - from the lovely receptionists to the folks who did my brows and hair. I booked an appointment for a full leg wax and was very happy with the results. My esthetician, Damone Y (who also goes by Julie, I believe), was thorough and took her time to ensure all the hair was removed. She was friendly, and our small talk helped the appointment go by quickly. The only concern I had was the shared room setup--while I was getting my legs waxed, other clients were receiving services nearby. Julie did put up a partition to create some privacy, but I would recommend the staff consider offering a private room for leg waxing if possible. I have been here 3 times. Once for a haircut which was ok but basic, a facial (also ok) and now a mani. Mani done by a student over halfway through her school year. The shaping was so inconsistent, very transparent and incredibly chunky/textured. Although I have a soft spot for beauty schools, my recent visit to this establishment left me feeling underwhelmed. While I had a satisfactory hair braiding experience, the rest of my services fell short of my expectations. The gel manicure/pedicure lacked high-quality polish options, and I needed several coats to achieve the desired look. The lash extensions were a disappointment, as they began to fall out just hours after application. My eyebrow wax and tint were also problematic, resulting in thick and uneven brows that needed to be fixed immediately. On the bright side, the hair braiding service provided by Tia was exceptional. Overall, while I understand the students are still learning, I believe more supervision is needed to ensure a better quality of service. Despite my mixed experience, I'm grateful that I was able to rectify the issues at another salon before my graduation. Had such an awesome experience! Will definitely be returning soon. Like where else can you receive a shampoo, blow dry and heat for $35....plus I added on a deep conditioning for $10 so total of $45! This evening I received my service from Bobby under the instructor Sydney and I must say I was extremely impressed. Sydney was very intensive to all students as they were servicing clients. She gave hands on guidance when needed and she was simply so encouraging to make sure students were confident in what they were doing. Even the students displayed so much professionalism and they were team oriented. Overall, Bobby did a great job....the salon was clean, the music was on point and I'm already planning my next visit so definitely check this place out and support these students. read more

I got a signature hydra facial here today and there were some pros and cons Pros: The woman who did my facial was very sweet and enthusiastic - very professional She was a student but knowledgeable about products and did not try to upsell me on bigger packages or more expensive facials when I said it was my first hydra facial It was like $100 Front desk woman was very nice Overall the work my aesthetician did was good Cons: It felt very rushed compared to other facials and hydrafacials I've gotten before - the actual facial was about 30 mins Missed some gunk in my skin/nose that I could see as soon as I went to the mirror The room was messy and kinda dirty. My appointment was with Teineisha who was very professional. When I came in for my appointment she was ready immediately. She introduced herself and even shook my hand. She asked me about my skin concerns and informed me about my skin type. In addition educating me on my skin, she talked me through each step of the facial and checked on my comfort levels. Several salons near me have closed. I decided to try the beauty school. The salon is about a block from Harris Teeter. I made an appointment online. The stylist ran a bit late. I think she forgot about me or didn't check the schedule. I saw her casually chatting with employees at the front desk while I waited for her. I know we are guinea pigs who give students practice. I still thought taking 2 1/2 hours for a Bob cut was long. It felt longer with a hot cape & mask. The teacher checked the stylist's work and cut my bangs. When the teacher started to suggest that the stylist use trimmers on my hair, I knew I wouldn't return. I asked her not to use them. I was growing out a haircut where another stylist had used trimmers. The stylist was nice, but I was disappointed that she complained about work issues to me. That stuff needs to be shared away from a customer. Students work at their school to gain experience cutting by hair. They aren't just "working for the school." The biggest let down was telling me I was the reason she didn't get her second break that day. Then she added, "But it's no big deal." I think with coaching this stylist could have a better attitude. I came to this location for the first time about a year ago, and I have been back several times since (I live just a few blocks away, so it is super convenient). I have received a few services here - hair trims (most frequent service), deep conditions, and I also got their basic facial once. All of my experiences have been positive. Throughout my hair visits, I've had several different people cut my hair, and each time I have left happy. I will say that what I get is not very complicated (I have long, pin straight hair and just get a little length trimmed and some layers put in). But I love that the students are so informed and very intentional about asking questions and making sure you're comfortable. I also have been impressed by the instructor (it's been the same person every time I've gone, but there may be others), as they are always walking around and checking in on their students and the clients. In my observation, the instructor is very supportive and offers both constructive advice and compliments/encouragement. The services are very well priced, and I have yet to be disappointed. As previously mentioned, I've also gotten deep conditions here. This has been a good service and is worth the price paid, but I will probably only add it on as an additional service versus going here only for that in the future because, realistically, I get a similar result using a hair mask at home. One thing I do want to note is that the services do take some time, so expect to be here for a while. It could just be that I'm not used to salons like this, but I'm usually here for at least 1.5 hours even for just a wash, blow-dry, and trim with layers, which surprised me the first couple times. My facial experience was also very positive. I did the 30-minute facial, and it was very relaxing and made a huge difference in my skin for a few weeks after. The student who did mine was also very knowledgeable and took their time to explain everything, which I appreciated. Overall, I have been very pleased by the vustomer service here and by the services I have received, and I definitely recommend this location for at least simple services! read more

I went in for a 2-3" haircut and got 6+ inches cut off. I was told "it was a little shorter" - once the hair is cut, unfortunately there is nothing I can do now but wait for it to grow back. Extremely frustrating and I am out $30 for a botched haircut. read more

I went into my scissor cut at SPA hopeful from my previous haircut. I asked for a 3 inch trim, short layers around the bottom, and a small trim of my bangs. Pictured below is my hair before the haircut as well as a photo of the haircut that I received. The student cut 5-6 inches off of my hair, and cut blunt and uneven bangs out of all of the hair that is in front of my ears, giving me a mullet-like look. I ended up having to go to a professional salon the next day, who had to cut another inch off of my hair to even it out and add texture. The instructor did not come around a single time to check on the student. It is going to take months for my hair to no longer look like some type or bowl cut/mullet. read more

They are very unprofessional a lot of their students is unhappy their employees is very unhappy. A year ago I had lashes extensions went in there to get a refill the girl got glue in my eye, there was no apology from the owner or his staff went back down there with the doctor's note to prove to them that my eye got infected because the glue got into it. On February the 16th of 2024 I went there to have a retouch on my platinum blonde I walk out of there with brown hair instead of blonde hair. Student lied and the teacher lied the student was standing behind me rolling her eyes because I said this is two different colors that you got in my hair you cut my hair wrong. The student made up some lies on me saying that I talked to her aggressive instead of the school calling me and talking to me about it and finding out what really happened they told me they no longer wanted me to do service with me. read more

Great spot for a cheap haircut! I have relatively simple hair to cut (which my stylist noted) since it's pretty thin and fine. That said, I got a great haircut done efficiently to my specifications. My assigned stylist was very new, so her instructor did most of the haircut. I just had a blunt cut with some light thinning at the bottom and a trim to my curtain bangs. I arrived 5 minutes before my appointment time and had to wait 15 minutes past the start time, but the haircut itself only took about 50 minutes which was great! I'll definitely be back. I love a cheaper haircut that allows me to tip more generously. read more

I had an appointment for 3:30. I arrived and was walking in the door when the receptionist called and indicated that my stylist had just called and was not coming. First impressions are last impressions. I was not pleased that it was 3:15 and my appointment was cancelled. in addition there was nobody else there that could do my hair. Needless to say I am not going back. not professional at all. To add insult to injury they have a policy that if you cancel they charge you $10 and you're not able to book with them again until you pay the fee. I had a facial done here after a Groupon buy in October 2022. I wasn't aware that it was a teaching salon when buying the Groupon but was fine with that. My student aesthetician definitely took her time for a 60 min facial but it wasn't as great of a service as I expected. She used several products without properly cleansing or steaming my face in between. I left with my face feeling as though it had way too much product on it and was oily as a result. I would've appreciated better cleansing after product application. I may come back and try another service but likely wouldn't get another facial. read more

Rating this three stars as I've had two separate salon experiences here of varying success. First, I got a haircut here earlier this year that was amazing. Exactly what I wanted, for cheap. The stylist made sure we were aligned on what I wanted and she took her time to ensure a clean cut that looked good. She was very diligent and clearly cared about what she did. I will be back for another haircut soon! Later in the year in late September, I came for a gel manicure and it was the worst experience of my life. I would give 0 stars for that specific service if I could. The technician trimmed my nails jagged and cut all the healthy growth off. The cut nails were down to my nail beds and aching. Then, she put some concoction on my fingers that burned so bad I almost cried. Lastly, she sloppily applied the nail color all around the edges on my aforementioned jagged nails that weren't filed. When she "finished", I looked down at my nails and almost shed a tear. I had to go home and trim my nails to the shape I wanted AND file them down so they didn't look disastrous, but they were so short and stubby, it took two weeks for them to grow back out. Under no circumstances should you get your nails done here. I don't like trashing businesses but I would literally not wish this service on my worst enemy. Anywhere else is better for a manicure. read more

She created the most beautiful blonde balayage, made me feel welcome and comfortable in my chair, and was a complete and utter delight to talk to. 100% worth trying--I wanted to get a trim and some long layers, and decided to check out the school since it was cheaper than most other salons. Yeah! Five stars for a lovely, inexpensive salon featuring talented students and discount keratin treatments! I found this place while creeping around on Groupon. However, the salon prices are so low you definitely don't need any discounts. With the Groupon, my keratin treatment was $135. However, the keratin is only $180 normally. Great deal. Also, my stylist did an awesome job and did better work than many other full-priced salons. I was so impressed by my stylist that I booked a follow up appointment for a hair cut. The salon also offers a lot of specials and, if you get color done, you get a free haircut! Side note, you cannot tip on your card!! They only accept cash and there aren't any ATM's nearby. I came In for a full hair color, 3.5 hours later apparently all they did to my hair was GLAZZED it, I wasn't sure what that would do to my hair but when my stylist Abi, the owner (Patrick) and who I believe was the teacher (ms.Jaybon) talked about how to get my hair the color I requested coming from an ombré. The very next day after I washed my hair I realized how bad my hair look! It looked like I bought a box color and tried to color my blonde ends myself. I called the salon the very next day and they were very helpful and scheduled me for a guaranteed fix appointment with Abi. I come to find out they're trying to charge me an ADDITIONAL $55 for ( COLOR RETOUCH $35 AND COLOR $20) The day of my service I paid $60 for a full color, and haircut. Now I am told by ms. Jaybon that when you pay for the color service, you only are entitled to one bowl or box of color and if it requires additional color to get it to the color the customer initially requested, the customer must pay per box/bowl of color for an additional cost of $35 but you also have to pay extra to get it toned which apparently they NEED to do to get the color right. Ms. Jaybon was sorry for the "miscommunication" and wished that her boss Patrick did not get involved in my hair consultation my first visit because he was apparently the one that suggested they only do a glaze on my hair and that made it look like a cheap color cover. *i called within their 48 hour period they have to fix your hair but I guess that doesn't include actually FIXING the color) This whole experience was miserable. read more

Both times I've been, I had an appointment but still had to wait for my service (the 1st time, around 15 mins and the 2nd time, close to 30 mins!) I attended a soft launch for the current graduating class of 2023, receiving a wax and tint on my eyebrows by Moziqe. She did such a good job, my eyebrows looked clean and natural. It wasn't to dark, didn't stand out to much and she made sure I was satisfied with her work before I left out of her chair which I really appreciated. There is a 48 hour adjustment policy but there's literally no room for adjustment because the haircut was so short. If my hair doesn't grow fast, I would've cried right there. 7-31: Can't update + out of space, response to Patrick in photos. - My hair came out so bad that I cried and I think the salon staff are trying to gaslight me about it. The staff is incredibly defensive if you have a complaint and use the salon being a school to excuse bad results. Only one correction is free before they claim you want a different service and try to charge you, you're forced to use the same student even after they mess up twice, they won't tell you if it's the student's 2nd ever time doing the work you're requesting, they won't believe that you're unhappy if you tip, and they won't give a refund so you can go somewhere else and move on. I'm now out $180 after tip (+ more to continue covering the damage), so please learn from my ridiculous experience and just don't come to this salon. 7-24: I come in to get my hair cut and balayage-d with chocolate brown pieces. The instructor, Bethany, looks at my photos and recommends a color for the student to mix. That's the extent of my consultation. The student (trying not to reveal his name) dyes my hair using foil between sections--not typical for balayage. When we wash the dye out, I notice my hair is orange and much lighter than I requested, so the student decides to tone my hair for less time, which an instructor will later say is wrong. It's almost 9pm when my hair is dyed, so the student hurriedly cuts it and asks if I'm okay leaving with it wet. I agree since everyone is obviously waiting to go home. Because my hair is wet, I don't get a full look at the finished dye job or cut, but I tell Bethany privately that I'm worried about it being light. She assures me that I can come back if I'm not happy. 7-25: I see how brassy my hair is at home and call in the morning. I came in that night to see the same student but another instructor, Joanne. I tell her the highlights are orange and not blended. She shows the student a new dye technique for a few sections and leaves us alone. She comes back when the left side is nearly done and points out that the sections are again too chunky; she does a few more for him but never corrects the ones already done. I'm still not sure about the color when we're done, but it's 9:30 and dim in the salon, so I want to wait until I get home and in better lighting. I feel bad for coming back so I tip the student again for his effort, not knowing it will later be held against me. 7-26: I call because I notice sections of dye that are still patchy. I reach Joanne, who says she was high fiving her student the night before and is shocked that I would call back. She now tells me that my hair needs several rounds of dye to get as light as I want; I respond that it was never meant to be that light at all and offer to stop by or send pictures of the patches. She refuses and tells me that I can come back for another correction but it's their policy that it's with the same student, I have to pay for anything else they do, and they won't do any further corrections if I'm not happy. I'm so distressed at the prospect of coming back that I start crying, but I set up an appointment anyway because I don't know what else to do. 7-27: I see I'm being fooled and need to go somewhere else. I call, get Joanne, and ask to cancel the appointment and get a refund instead. She says only the salon directors can authorize this and they're busy but will call me back at an unspecified time; she refuses to talk to me any more. I'm left crying again by how rude and defensive she is. I don't see a missed call all afternoon so I stop by after work; Bethany tells me the directors have left but to call the 28th. 7-28: I go to another salon in the morning. In the afternoon, I call and reach Elena, a director. She says she is the only one at the front desk and can't talk; she says meeting in person on Monday after work should be fine but to call first to confirm. 7-30: I call midday to confirm a time to meet and get the same excuse that the directors are busy, so I can only wait. Patrick, another director, calls back later and starts a phone conversation though I say I'm at work. He refuses to believe I can be unhappy if I was calm and tipped again the second day--sorry for trying to be reasonable and polite. Should I be screaming at the nervous student who clearly feels terrible? He says I was told at my first appointment that my hair couldn't get as light as I wanted in one sitting and talks over me when I say that conversation never happened because my hair was never meant to be so light and when I point out that I would have made further appointments if I actually wanted a color couldn't be done in one go. Patrick declines when I offer to send pictures of the patchy dye and what I originally requested, though he's never seen my hair, and berates me for going to another salon. Finally, he accuses me of lying entirely when I briefly misspeak and correct myself, and he hurries me off the phone, refusing to refund me or speak to me further. read more
