When I used to get acrylic nails, they would be dedicated to "Karen" [her name on the manicure license was "Ngoc"] at Hair & Nail Styles. I was a loyal customer and would come in for a fill every two weeks. I bought "Karen" over 15 clients when she first opened the salon with her husband & cousin. I even got a batch of their business cards to hand out to people who asked where I got my nails done. Why the small rating? ....read on.... Hair & Nail Styles is a decent sized hair and nail salon in Santee. Hair & Nail Styles does a phenomenol job on nails... Hair & Nail Styles does not serve food. Of course a nail salon doesn't serve food. What the hell are you talking about Josephine? *Shut up, and keep reading...you're almost there!* I was getting my nails done, chatting on about the same stuff I talk about every two weeks. I was telling "Karen" about how I can't wait for school to be over and I always asked how her kids were...and suddenly, something caught my attention in the corner of my eye. I look above "Karen's" left hand shoulder and there's something scurrying along the wall. SWEET MERCIFUL JESUS...WHY?! I jump up from my seat, kneeling on my chair and squeel like a girl. Everybody is shocked and look at me like I'm psycho. I point my shaky, half-done index finger to the enormous rat chillen next to the wall. The salon is empty within moments. vibrating pedicure spa tubs left astray... empty shampoo sinks getting filled with water.... nail polish knocked over.. hair dryers left on... Every woman in the salon freaked out and ran out like pansies. I look back now and laugh at myself. What the hell was wrong with me? But your mind isn't prepared to see a HUGE NYC rat while getting pampered. The husband came back outside and said "Mouse gone". I peaked my head inside and the rat disappeared. After, we were convinced to go back inside. I reluctantly did, but the place reaked of uneasiness and awkward silence, everybody occasionally checking their perimeter to make sure all is well. I sat back down in "Karen's" booth embarassed and allowed her to continue working on my nails. She finished them in silence. I grabbed a dated magazine and thumbed through the pages... She finished. I paid. She grabbed her appointment book and asked "Two weeks from now, same time?, I said, "Uh, oh, I didn't tell you? I'm moving to Chicago." I didn't want to break it to her that I didn't want to go there anymore. It was too mean. A hair & nail salon should be clean. An establishment that helps you clean your nails, cut your hair, assist in grooming your appearance should not have rodents, especially mutant rats on their premises. I stopped getting acrylic nails after that. I only get manicures from rat-free establishments. read more

Personally I've never seen a RAT or any Rodents here. It is a lil small and kinda "humble" shop. Been going to Karen for i believe 5 years now. She's does an excellent job on my nails. Im soo picky with how they look and with her I can just sit down and not pay attention or worry about them looking ugly. They use GOOD QUALITY arcylic..why I know? Because if anyone uses cheap stuff on my nails my cuticle swell and itch from irritation!! its not pretty! So yeah they use quality acrylic and they offer tons of of color powder. I consider them cheap. Pink & White Fill runs me $22 and after tip $27. They are also pretty good at fitting you in if you call the day of unless its after 12pm or a Saturday. Honesty, before working at there I can not recognize "what is the beautiful hands" but after working there, seeing Kathy and Karen do nail for a lot of client, I can know the answer for that question. Their clients' hand don't turn yellow after 2 or 3 weeks. Moreover, they do fast but beautiful and professional. Just take about 30 or 35 minutes, your hand will be beautiful. Ive been getting acrylics on and off for 6years now and not have found 1 place which ive stayed for a year cuz i really liked them pretty close but never really satisfied...anyways went yesterday becuz it was highly recommended got in right as kathy was finished with someone else we talked and told her what i wanted and for $32 i got glitter tips,pink powder,gel and 2 nail designs!!! Never paid anything close to that for everything i got! Pink powder and gel are always included never heard of that either unless you go to a ritzy place in la jolla and spend $80 which ive done stupidly and still wasnt satisfied.. Amazing prices,and great service,def coming bak my new spot!!(: As for rats i dont see a place where they would be on a ledge or anything its straight wall to ceiling with only built in shelves that only hold nail polish and glitter powder and you cant even see the back room! Even still ALL establishments have rodent and bug problems they just keep it quiet as much as possible and prevent it going to the public! read more

I came here today to try a new spot since I just moved to the area. As a walk in, I told them that I would like pedicure, then asked to use the restroom. The restroom was dirty, so I decided to ask a few more questions about their process. I asked if they had plastic to go over the back massage foot bins and if the had sanitized tools. They said yes. However after looking at the nail polish options, I didn't like any. So when I turned around I asked where I should sit. They told me if I wanted plastic over the bin, I would have to have separate bin (not the massage chair bin) just a bucket with some plastic around it. I told them no thanks....after which a person yelled at me for just wanting to use the restroom. FYI... my toes needed attention and I was looking for a new spot close to my new home. Not ever going here. While waiting I noticed a person with their bare feet chilling on the pedicure spots. Do not go here... you might risk a foot infection! That is why I didn't stay! read more

So it was my second time and I was getting a fill for my nail. The lady said my nail was loose and was sanding them down and she cut my finger and her self. Blood started dripping and she was trying to clean it up. She tried to use the same cotton ball for her blood then mine! But u stopped her!! I was trying to be understanding that this happens. But then weeks later I had an infection under my nail from this place!! Two things that have never happened to me happened in one visit! Bad first impression. I read great reviews about this place so I had to check it out. The price was excellent for a pedicure but other than that, not a good experience. The girl who did my pedicure, was nice enough but there definitely was a communication issue. She started off very gentle with cleaning my feet then she applied the callus remover & began to scrub with the pumice stone. I began to feel pain on the outer edge of my big toe & said "ouch!". She continued to scrub the same area even harder. I said "ouch" again but she still didn't stop. Finally I said "wait, plz stop", as I pulled my foot away. Then I pointed to the outside of my big toe, where I felt a burning pain & there was now an open wound, which wasn't there before. Apparently, she had scrubbed so hard that some skin broke open & the callus remover went inside. It really hurt. She cleaned it who soap & water but didn't seem to feel bad about it or ask if I was ok. The burning slightly decreased but was still there. I kept waiting for her to apologize or offer advise on how to stop the burning but she continued to be silent. I understand there was a language barrier but you'd think she'd have the other girl translate. Finally, she was done & the pain improved but was still present & concerning. I asked the other girl, who spoke English, if it was normal for this to happen & if I should apply anything to decrease the burning. She told me it'd be fine & breaking the skin while scrubbing a person's foot can happen. I've never had this happen to me EVER @ any nail shop. Not a good first impression. In addition the lack of professionalism, the shop looked dirty. The couch was dusty, the floors had polish & stains all over. I didn't feel like the salon was very clean or kept up. I wish I could say something positive but this was my first & last visit there. read more

i adore this place! they do the best job! been coming here for a couple years now and i have no complaints.. my nails are very small so its hard to make acrylics look good on my nails but they do it some how... not only do they use great products but included in the price is pink and whites and gel... its not an option its just done that way which is great.. no matter who does your nails you will get a great set of nails and great service! read more
