I love Hair It Is and will go nowhere else. I live in North County and drive down to Santee to get my nails, toes, and hair done. Michelle has done my nails for over 25 years. Even when I went away to college in Long Beach for two years I drove down every few weeks to get them done. I can't say enough good about this salon. I had a hair apt scheduled at a different place and she canceled on me the morning of 4 hours before my apt time. I called Hair it Is and not only was the receptionist soo helpful, she actually got me an appointment in such short notice. Tiffany took me under her care and did fabulous. I have been going to Emilee for about a year now. I even supported her at the salon she was at back in 2018. I went to her again in 2020 because I thought she was very nice and I wanted to have someone that already experienced working on my hair. I've been very patient and supportive of her as she worked on learning how to bleach darker hair. I had an appointment with her on July 27th to get a touch up on my roots. They were a bit long at that point, so I understood the initial darker colored band that resulted after that appointment. We scheduled another appointment on August 23rd to fix the darker colored band and get a touch up. During that appointment Emilee and I were talking about how the band would finally be gone and everything would be even. I was so excited to see the results. As she was drying my hair I asked her "so the band is finally gone?" and she confirmed that yes, it's definitely less orange. I guess that was already a concerning answer. I noticed that the band was definitely not completely gone. My friend even took a picture of the back underside of my hair. It looks pretty much the same as the initial band. I paid $90 for both appointments. I texted Emilee the day after my appointment to see if we could fix the band. No response for a month. I text her again yesterday and still no response. I'm not sure if she is ignoring me or if something happened with her, but I'm still pretty bummed out about my hair, especially since I've been so loyal and supportive to Emilee. I hope you consider my feelings as a loyal client. read more

At first when i heard about Brazilian straightening- i thought I couldnt find a place that wasnt too expensive for me, but Ive been going to this salon now for about 3 years and always have Farrah Do my Brazilian blowouts, because they last a really long time. the process is like this, first, she took me back to the shampoo bowl to prepare my hair and get out all the styling gunk. Then she brought out "the treatment." It was much different than I expected. It looked and smelled like chocolate lotion, without any chemical smell. she takes a lot of time when she divided my hair into sections and begin to comb the Brazilian Blowout through each section. It was hard for me to believe this could actually do anything, but Farrah explained that the solution surrounded each hair shaft with protective protein layers to smooth and flattened the cuticle. I took her word for it. After flat ironing my hair - it is straight as a board. and smells like a chocolate martini- added bonus! And after going home and doing my hair myself with my usual routine and products, I liked the added shine and even after a month hair is much less frizzy and I still get tons of compliments. But it can be a lifesaver, especially for people who straighten their hair on a regular basis. this saves me hours of time, after washing, my hair air dries really quickly and i usually only spend 5 mins with the flat iron VS the 1 hour i used to spend trying and failing to get it absolutely straight. I usually go about 3- 4 months between blowouts. So far, so good! she usually gives me a quick trim on my bangs right at the end- and i Always feel really polished after. This review is for Farrah and so overdue. I moved back up to NorCal for grad school in 2009 and I STILL make sure to book an appointment with Farrah when I visit San Diego. She just gets hair color. I have been searching and searching for someone to be "my hair girl" in the Bay Area and I just can't find them. Everyone is overpriced and under-knowledged. I never leave the salon feeling that "wow, I look amazing" feeling like I do with Farrah. Now, she's not cheap and sometimes she can take FOR-EVER, but damn is it worth it! And my hair continues looking good for weeks to months after seeing her, can't say the same for other stylists I've been too. She's given me highlights, lowlights, balliage, ombre, Brazilian straightening treatments,etc. I am completely confident with my hair in her hands (and I have a lot it!) I went there 1 year ago and received the worst hair coloring I've ever had. I went in looking for auburn highlights and left with black hair after Alice had to cover up her initial mistake of dying my entire hair bright red. It was traumatic. I made the mistake of going to the salon again a year later. I wanted a trim and thought it was simple enough. I was a walk-in and Alice was the only one in the salon. I had Alice again trim my hair because I thought it was simple enough and I'd give her another chance, and then left with a haircut that was not flattering to my natural waves. I said it was okay for her to "thin" it a bit, but when she was done it looked like hacked layers. All I wanted was a shoulder length trim without layers. And she again did more than what was asked. Leaving me unhappy and insecure with my hair again. She also told me flat out while cutting my hair that she didn't think she was talented. Who says that to a client? Especially as they are cutting your hair. I should have left right then. I won't be going back for a third time. read more
