Heather referred me to Andrea, the salon owner, for a Trichology consult, since I was losing a lot of hair. (I previously had seen my dermatologist who had made recommendations, but I was still shedding and had an inflamed scalp. ) Andrea looked at my scalp and made suggestions for my scalp health and to regrow hair. I am not only thrilled with the amount of hair growth I've had, but also- my scalp is no longer inflamed and hurting. I went in for a cut, my first time getting a cut in a salon since way before Covid. (I'm just that lazy) I'm always nervous going to a new, hip place, because I am neither new nor hip, so I get intimidated. Not a problem at Hair Apothecary because everyone there was super friendly. I emailed the salon and got a quick response from the owner, Andrea. She asked a few questions about my hair type-length and texture and paired me with Jude, who specializes in curly hair. The salon has a cool vibe. Jude was warm and welcoming and listened to all of my hair concerns - I have some hair loss due to menopause. She gave me a wonderful cut and was good about talking about products to use and how to style it. I mentioned that I had been considering coloring my hair for the first time ever, and she asked me for my inspo pix and booked me another appointment. It's a coronavirus world. And it'd been 5 months since I had a cut and color. So here's how this goes: - You must wear a mask. - Temperature check at the door. - Hand sanitizer squirted on you at the door. - Capes are single-use only. - Staff wear masks and and sanitize themselves and absolutely everything. - Half capacity and social distancing. No other clients were near me and there were only two other clients there. - Medical grade air purifier. Plus fans at every station. While my color was processing, I was able to go out to their back patio and enjoy the weather. The patio is super cute and comfy. (And you can take your mask off out there if you want.) No one else was out on the patio with me. All the precautions were taken. And my hair, as usual, is beautiful. Bobby, as always, is super wonderful. And they're doing a great job to keep everyone safe. So if you're worried (like me) about getting your hair done in this new world, know that this place is doing their part and it's ok. Plus, I just feel dramatically different and happier after having gone 5 months without getting a cut or color (I'm normally on a ~2 month schedule). So now I can go back to staying safely at home with a happier view of myself. read more

Best salon. I'm late to review. I had a bad hair cut from different salon that I was too uncomfortable to go to work. I sent an email very early got a respond right away but I didn't read it then I did but figured I missed the time so I called. My stylist for - well forever moved salons. She is so good I'll follow her anywhere! Jude is a truly gifted stylist. She is meticulous in her work. She also has a true gift for fixing mistakes - I've made a few. The salon itself is small and perfect. It's adorable. Well designed. I'm in love with the furniture in particular. In the area there are a lot of restaurants and a ton of street parking. This salon is local and female owned! Yay! The group of stylists are talented and they know their stuff. Bobby, the only person I trust to touch my hair as of late, has made another one of my dreams come true. I had a vision of a dark, strawberry blonde, with copper and a color melt. He knew EXACTLY what he was doing. The color is fantastic. Bobby is fantastic. Reasonably priced for the highlights and all over color. I can't imagine going to anyone else while living in Chicago. Finding the right hairdresser here is harder than trying to park in the winter when someone stole your dibs. So what I'm saying is it's sacred. I love how he listens to what I want and then also gives suggestions, if I don't agree with his suggestion we move forward, he knows how to work client centered while still delivering beautiful art. But my word of advice is that if you do get your hair done by him, follow his advice. I'm been floored with how amazingly beautiful my hair has looked since working with Bobby. I have been seeing Andrea since before she started Hair Apothecary. She is my go-to for amazing hair. Whenever I go we talk about what I want done. I have gone from long to pixie cut. I have gone from bleach blonde to dark auburn. She's also helped me grow my hair out when I've decided to go long again. If she thinks a style or color won't work the shape of my face or my coloring she tells me. She knows her stuff. Heather cuts my hair here and I've never had a bad cut! I need a lot of layering (very thick hair) and I have an undercut, so sometimes I have to talk hairdressers into giving me the cut I want, but not heather! She listens to your experience with your own hair, and does a phenomenal job giving a low matinence and cute cut! I called Hair Apothecary the morning after a discount chain hacked my hair basically into a mullet. Bobby graciously got me in that evening. I live 2 blocks away which is a plus. This salon is female owned and the stylists really get along and take care of their customers. Bobby gave me an awesome cut and fixed what he could while educating me about the fixes and how it would look in the future. I love knowing what's going on and he's very open about every step of your cut. He turned my horror story into a nice fresh start! I have to admit I was sticker shocked at the price coming from a cheap chain, but it's worth it to get the right cut the first time (and every time after that). This salon is awesome! Go see my girl Jude for all your color needs. She's taken care of all my premature greys! I don't think I'll ever go anywhere else. I was so anxious on my most recent visit (6/30) since not really being out in several months but I felt so safe. My temperature was taken at the door and was offered hand sanitizer. The staff diligently cleaned all of the chairs, equipment and hair wash stations with the blue light and cleaning sprays not just between clients but even during the appointment.
