While, my favourite hairdressers of all time remains Hair Design (a bit more of a walk away), I reckon Cortex will please the masses. It is a small, local hair dressers which is friendly and often fairly quiet so you don't always need to have made an appointment earlier (this suits me, due to my highly indecisive nature). The girls in here are really nice and if you want some advice on what they'd recommend they'll happily provide a few suggestions. I've always had a decent cut out of here and the prices are very reasonable. Though, I've never had my hair dyed in here, so I'm not sure what that aspect of the business is like. They also offer spray tans for only £10 a pop. Something I've yet to try in here but I've heard some very good reviews of it. So, may well take up this great deal once the summer starts to show itself.

This salon is situated at Clarkston Toll which made it handy for me to pop in for a trim on the way home from school many moons ago. I was never disappointed with my cut and I always left with my hair exactly the way I wanted it. I also got my first pair of GHD's here so it holds a special place in my heart. The prices are reasonable, you can get a stand-by cut for around £25 and if you phone up they usually have special offers on than you can take advantage off. The staff are also really chatty and even though I don't go anymore, one of my old school friends still does as she just feels so at home at this salon. The shop is modern, light and you will always be offered teas, coffee and juice while you are waiting which is great.

This is a lovely, small, local hairdressers with chatty staff who know their stuff. No appointment is required, which is always good for popping in on your day off whenever you like. The owner of the shop listens carefully to what you would like done and talks you through how she'll do it. Then proceeds to quickly and effectively follow through. This is definitely the place to go if you want a good cut and colour by well trained and friendly individuals. Furthermore, the prices are superb, as a good shampoo and cut will only set you back about £15.

Staff are polite, friendly and very chatty which makes for a relaxed and happy atmosphere. Not one in which you are sitting and secretly wishing they would cut your hair faster so you could bolt out of the door and stop nattering on about your summer holidays. Meanwhile, their service is decent, quick and fits into the 'does what it says on the tin' box for reasonable rates. Good stuff.

But don't let this fool you - it's got bags of character and charm. This has got to be primarily because of the really friendly, chatty and all together sweet staff. Most importantly, they LISTEN to what you're after and then provide information and suggestions based on your hair type and the reality of haircuts with it. I especially appreciate this due to my naturally curly and frizz prone hair. Instead of desperately wanting to give me a cut which would require constant straightening (and some hairdressers are determined to do this and make me 'look nice'); they had a few suggestions on how to best manage then frizzy mane. Excellent. Lastly, all of this is available for a reasonable cost and is just a little wander from my front door. Oh, yeah that's more like it.

It has a tiny royal blue exterior with regal looking gold lettering. This creates a rich, luxurious and welcoming feel, which intends into the clean, comfortable interior. There's a few rows of swivel chairs lined up along the two vertical walls with the usual hairdressing paraphernalia visible. The homey, comfortable atmosphere is greatly enhanced by the pleasant, friendly and extremely chatty staff. Furthermore, they provide a good, quick service at a decent price. Really nice little find which is worth a wee walk off of Clarkston Road.
