Before I went to this salon, I was so discouraged with my hair! It had turned almost entirely white, it was getting thin, and it seemed that a lot of my natural curl had up and left! It looked like I had my finger in a light socket!We Well, David gave me an absolutely fabulous cut and added some colour by balayage. The cut was so good that to style it, all I need to do is fluff it around with my fingers and it looks wonderful! The colour was beautiful. I left the studio feeling like a new person and still do because the style is so easy to care for. David is an absolute marvel and the staff do whatever they can to make you feel at home. This salon is absolutely fantastic! I told them what I was looking for and they delivered! This is actually the best haircut I have had in years!!! The Experience: I booked an appointment with Jhade, who is currently training at the salon. The price is significantly reduced and David overseas her work and offers guidance during the cut. Visit 1--Hair Colour: David and Jhade told me which colours I could go based on my current hair colour. I came in with two inches of roots and a faded red. They also told me which colours would look best with my skin tone. I picked a nice red and Jhade did a good job implementing the colour. Visit 2--The Hair Cut: David is a master at cutting hair. Jhade, David and I discussed the type of hair cut I wanted (aka... a wash and go style) and David walked Jhade through the techniques of how to cut my hair in that way. David is super knowledgeable and Jhade did a great job implementing the techniques. I now have hair that is beautifully wavy after a wash and go. It is absolutely fantastic! I want to share this as i have read a review about David and Co. Being racist. I have been going to Jamie for a while now, haven't had a chance to meet David. Jamie is an absolute superstar who deserves an award. I have lived in many countries and provided my hair type, its hard to get the haircut I wanted. Jamie took care of it and gave me what i exactly wanted. Yes, if you are more than 15 minutes late, they probably won't take you but it's your fault, being in a service business myself i know the importance of time. So I write my experience here and I am told by the owner my experience didn't happen. Either he doesn't know how his business is being represented or he is lying. I was never told how to get into the salon. Now I am realizing that it is upstairs on some floor (10th?) not sure still. I walked around the building few times as I live around here. I don't know where I am supposed go in. Wish there was some sign on the ground floor saying hairsalon. Something noticeable. Yes it was a last minute scheduling and I was grateful that they could fit me in. But I was on time but unfortunately at a wrong salon as no one gave me instructions to find the salon. I never expected a hairsalon to be on the residential level or whatever. So I don't think I am first one with this problem. So when the receptionist called me and I told her I didn't realize I was in the wrong salon but she was not helpful or understanding and never even told me where the salon was or offered to reschedule my appointment contrary to what the owner has replied back to my first review. Also in general, where is the costumer service. I didn't spent effort to provide the business with feedback only to get a response saying how they are 100% perfect and it's all my fault. Ok. I found this place on yelp and it doesn't say it's on the 10th floor. So maybe you should fix that before throwing attitude to my review and to potential costumers who are reading my experience. read more

I didn't cry but... Today I went in for a haircut. Stacey and I talked through how long my hair was, its texture, how I wear it (mostly in a ponytail which I love doing because I run), what I wanted. She showed me pictures of long layered beachy hair and took a clip and tapped me with it and said that we wouldn't take my hair above *here* which was my bra strap. She even said no higher than the bra strap. My hair was almost down to my elbow. I wear glasses and without them can't see anything. I had to take them off for the cut. After a relatively fast cut, she told me to put my glasses back on. I was honestly shocked. My hair is so short. It barely touches my shoulders. Getting out of there was a blur. I walked to meet friends and was met with, "What happened to your hair!" and not in the good way. Another friend said, "I love you so much, but 1995 called and definitely gave you The Rachel. At least winter is coming so you can wear a hat. I miss your hair!!!" It was then that I got upset. It IS as bad as I thought. And I do have the layered hair of an out of touch simpleton who hasn't changed their look in 20 years but super loves Friends. For a girl who said she likes to wear her hair in a ponytail, I've got pieces so short they barely tuck behind my ear, much less enough hair to even do a proper ponytail. In walking down the street I looked at women my age, none of them have this hair. Literally no one has this hair. I have no idea what happened. How in the span of 25 minutes I went from agreeing to nothing above my bra strap to all of it being cut down to layered nothing. I was her 3pm appointment. She had another woman show up right at 4pm while I was still in the chair. Maybe she was just on auto-pilot, in a rush? Beware fellow ladies. I didn't cry but I feel obligated to tell you to steer clear. What they say here is not what they do. The sad part is I was a really brief part of her day, an hour at most. But now I'm stuck with what she did for months or another year until it grows out. Don't go here. read more

Being Asian, achieving certain colours has always been difficult for me, and I've been to too many salons that just throw you into a chair and say "yes, yes, yes". I was informed over the phone while booking my very first appointment at this salon, was told up front that what I wanted was impossible without thoroughly damaging my hair. I already knew this, but I was impressed with the honesty, and the fact that they have a policy in place that prevents this. That could be a lot of potential business lost. So literally, they had me at hello LOL! I was fortunate enough to meet Elle, who has only been at this establishment for two weeks. Not only was she personable and accommodating, she was honest and seemed to genuinely love her work/art. What she did with my hair was just brilliant! Was I lucky or what? Love it! Love it! Love it! Can I give zero stars? Had a 1:45pm appointment, was running ten minutes late, called ahead, the receptionist was like, "if you're one minute over ten minutes late he's cancelling your appointment." Raced to get there, showed up 11 minutes late, the stylist comes to the door and says with a smile, "unfortunately you're too late and I'm gonna have to cancel." Literally left work to go there, so rude and unaccommodating, and seemed to take pleasure in turning me away. Had an appointment with Jamie, he was really not nice about it. It's quite frankly amazing how one stylist can know "what YOU are looking for" in a haircut. This quiet, small salon has same feeling as a 3-Michelin starred restaurant in NYC, Paris, etc: it's not intrusive, it's "certainly NOT racist", and everything from "the out-of -the-way" locale to the gentle service to the FABULOUS haircut.....is sublime. As soon as I began going to Jamie, people commented on how healthy I looked....it was as if the years I lost due to medical illness....disappeared. I was desperate for a balayage treatment immediately and called the morning of and they were able to book me with Jamie that afternoon after they had a cancelation. This is the best hair salon in the city! after months of letting gross keratin tip extensions grow, the grown-out hair had become a fist of knotted hair (and that barely does it justification) so I went in to David's salon for my appointment with Sean McMullan. By chance, David was just stopping by but when he saw the mess that was in my hair he stayed for almost 2 hours to help Sean detangle my hair just cause (what owner of a salon would really ever do that?!) Then Sean was left with not much to work with (I had desperately cut out the keratin tips because I was just done) so my hair was different lengths, frazzled, dead and just tired (as myself, David and Sean were) but Sean cut, and slightly layered my hair after giving it a much needed conditioning and it looks fantastic and it also feels healthy again! Thank you Sean!! This is my first review I've ever done and it's because of the wonderful customer service and skills of the hair stylists. I recommend 1000000%! read more

I don't normally leave reviews, but I really needed to given how disappointed I am with my experience at this salon. First and foremost, I do have to say that the staff was friendly and the atmosphere is unique. However, my hair cut is severely disappointing. A huge part of being a great hair stylist is listening to your clients' needs. I went into this salon with long hair (short and long layers throughout), and I left with a severely shorter (4-5 inches shorter) and reshaped hair style (completely straight across). That is not what I asked for - I reiterated the request to leave the length. We all know how long it takes to gain some length in your hair and to have a hair stylist take that away is simply disappointing. I mentioned to the stylist that the hair style was different and I had lost the style I had. She proceeded to dispute this statement, claiming I was incorrect. i don't believe this is right given that the first thing individuals have noticed about this new style is how different this style is in comparison to what i had. I trusted the fact that this salon was voted among the top salons according to BlogTO. I thought my decision to book an appointment was safe given that my regular hair dresser was busy. Boy was I wrong. Don't trust the BlogTO reviews - I learnt the hard way. read more

I went to Stacy for a boyish cut. The first time she cut my hair, I went back because the back and sides were too long and some parts were not even. She was great about fixing it and accomodating, but i still found that parts of my hair were not blended/faded properly and some parts looked like someone had just hacked off a straight line. I gave it another chance and she cut it way too short. It's also incredibly uneven and choppy. It kind of looks like I have a bowl cut in some angles and it looks like a child cut it. I could tell that she knew she made a mistake, because she was really struggling to blend the rest of my hair properly. She kept grabbing and releasing chunks of my hair and kept going shorter and shorter without fading anything. When I pointed out that some parts were uneven and that this wasn't the style I wanted, she started stating it was the way my hair grew. She's a stylist. She's also cut my hair before. She could have told me that it wouldn't work for my hair PRIOR to the cut, but instead she just went for it. She clearly doesn't know how to do these kinds of androgynous styles, and I would have appreciated it if she would have just told me she didn't have the experience for it. I felt like she had no idea what she was doing. I went to the barber next door to get pomade to make this awful hair more manageable, and the guy there said outright that it wasn't done properly. I felt massively embarrassed. I'm just praying my hair grows out quickly. She also didn't make any sort of attempts to fix the situation. She just sat there silently while I paid my bill and refused to make eye contact with me. i will not be returning. I paid a total of 80 with tax and tip. read more
