Backstory is that I got a pretty bad bleach job on my hair. It was damaged, tangled, and breaking. When wet, especially the back underside, felt like the stretchy string they use for cheap bracelets... I was distraught. I tried different leave-in treatments, hair oils, a fancy repair hair mask, a split-end and chemical damage conditioner and serum combo... it was not working. All this before my trip to Toronto. I knew I didn't want to continue with my hair like this so I looked for some Japanese hair salons here- I'm quite into Asian beauty and have never gotten the chance to try that kind of salon, despite even spending a while in Tokyo! At first I was just looking at solely Japanese salons but they didn't have any appointments and were very expensive (NC is actually out of my price range too, but it was on the lower end of expensive). I came across them because they do the Japanese NP3.1 extreme damage treatment and it looked really helpful to me... I was able to book pretty short notice, just 2 days before the appointment, for this treatment as well as for an NC cut with an apprentice stylist, Kelly. They offered the choice between her for $40 CAD and a senior stylist for $75 CAD, but as this is already much more expensive than usual for me I went with the apprentice, which I do not regret at all! The cut was $40 CAD and the treatment was $150 CAD. Also, it says on their price menu on the website you can add an NC cut for $15 CAD to another service, I believe this to be probably only for coloring service as it didn't apply to me. However, the receptionist was up front with me on this when I made the appointment. To the actual visit: when I arrived, I was so hot and sweaty from walking all the way there... I felt bad for them! They immediately had me put my stuff in a locker and put a nice little robe on me, which was very nice (but made me even hotter ). They then sat me down at Kelly's station where she looked at my hair and recommended the 3.1 treatment, but she said the majority of my hair was not too damaged. She also said it might be a good choice because the 3.1 comes with a take-home treatment too. I showed her what haircut I wanted (from NC's Instagram) and she walked me through it, and then we went to the wash station to do the treatment. It took like an hour, and it included steaming my hair, which made my face so wet! So don't wear a lot of makeup or make sure it's waterproof if you get this treatment. But it was kind of relaxing at first too. After that, she took me to the chair and cut my hair very quickly, and did it in a way I didn't get any hair at all on my clothes!! That's never happened to me before, so I was incredibly pleased. After that, she dried my hair, and I have to say, it's the best haircut I've ever had in my life! I've never loved the way my hair looks so much! Results: my hair is still damaged, it was even tangling as she was drying it. It is also still breaking. It doesn't tangle as much but the most damaged ends have been cut off, so I'm not really sure how much the treatment did. I'm not sure if I would recommend the treatment because of the price. If I had known how my hair is now, I probably would have just gone for the olaplex... but hindsight is 20/20. I 100% recommend getting a cut here, though, especially with Kelly! She speaks in a rather monotonous way, but don't let that throw you off, she is quite nice and just the right amount of talkative. It's totally worth the $40 CAD price, and that's coming from someone who usually cuts their hair themselves or goes to a place like great clips or something because I don't like to spend money. The treatment didn't do wonders for me, but it may work for you. It might just be my hair. But I'm not sure if they all recommended it because it costs more when a cheaper one would have been just as good. But I can't be sure, I just worry about stuff like that. My experience there was still very good though. They did have some fruit snacks, hi-chew and mango Perrier for me at the station, but I didn't get to eat it... It ended up being $190 CAD plus a $42 CAD (20%) tip. For my fellow Americans, that's about $178 USD with the current exchange rate. I do recommend this place! Try them out! I would come back for sure. My hair color is still uneven as I couldn't afford for them to correct it. Maybe I will save up and get color during my next trip to Toronto, as the color I've seen them do looks really good. Thanks to NC salon and Kelly for making me look great!! :) EDIT: After using the home treatment some and switching to a keratin shampoo and conditioner, my hair feels much better. I've only been to NC Salon for the colouring services and Japanese head spa, so I cannot attest to the stylists hair cutting skills, though I'm sure the stylists here are a jack of all trades. It's a nice salon hidden away on the 2nd floor, so watch out for the signs in case you end up walking past it. The decor inside is quite sleek considering it's brightly lit, all white, with hints of green due to their plants. From the moment you come in, you are greeted with a nice cup of tea. Since I've only been here for colouring, the consultation process will determine how much the service will be - they use a ruler to estimate the price of the service (the longer the hair, the more expensive), plus how much your hair has been compromised, etc. BEWARE: it is a pricey salon, so only come here if you are comfortable with dishing out that type of money, really. The stylists I have encountered are Erika and Sayuri. ERIKA: She is such a sweetheart, though she actually moved to Tokyo. She does come back to Toronto periodically if you follow her closely on instagram: @eri_hair, she will post up dates when she will be in Toronto etc. She is a cheerful and bright individual that sparks conversation with you, so you'll never really feel bored at your long appt. You can tell she pays attention to detail since there was one time she realized that she didn't like the outcome of the colour, and took it upon herself to fix that mistake - which I find not many stylists would do. Therefore, there will never be a question on how professional she is. PLUS, she gives the best head massages ever, til this day I haven't had the same experience that I had with her when it comes to massages. You can occasionally find her on YouTube videos if you look hard enough (I won't expose on here tho). SAYURI: There was once where my hair colour faded out to something I wasn't too comfortable with and Erika wasn't in the salon, so Sayuri said she would help me at no extra cost. She too is a very nice individual, doesn't really talk much but definitely knows what she's doing. She seems to have a strong portfolio of work as well. Last Feb (in 2015)....I went to NC Salon Downtown after a really bad botched Balayage job where the last stylist had no clue what he was doing. Raymond consulted with me literally the next day and assured me he could fix it, and he knew what he was doing. Sure enough, a week later, I went in for the fix....I sat there from 3pm to 10pm....I was his only client that day, and he did the most spectacular job! Worth every penny and 7 hours in the chair. In fact , they even fed me dinner and snacks and there was always a hot cup of David's tea. Since then, I've been back for root touchups (I have crazy colour resistant greys that need professional help), and hair cuts and full colours. The price isn't the least expensive, but it's definitely reasonable....they take their time with their work, they never rush you....and I found that if you aren't satisfied, they keep going till you are satisfied. It's HARD to find a hairstylist and team that listens....and Raymond and his team does. He's a keeper, I almost don't want to give him crazy good recommendations so that when I need a hair appointment, I can still book one without waiting weeks in advance. read more

I made a phone reservation the day of, and they quickly booked me in with a senior stylist for a NC cut ($55). The service I received was exceptional. When I walked in, the salon was well illuminated, modern, and simple, which made a very comfortable setting. I was welcomed, and I was assisted in wearing the gown. They have personal, locked cabinets for your belongings which you hold on the key to, so it feels very safe. They also have wifi. The stylist was very patient and knowledgeable when she asked me what I would like to do with my hair. She offered suggestions and provided me with a realistic outcome expectation depending on my hair length. She did rough cuts first, and then did the fine trims later on. She was very responsive to what I still didn't like, and would quickly fix it. The person who shampooed and scalp massaged was also very skilled. It was probably the best scalp massage I had and it lasted for a relatively long time too. The only problem was that I didn't know it was cash only for haircuts, and I was not informed beforehand i.e. during the phone call. Luckily, I had just enough including tips, otherwise it would've been quite awkward. I like how they don't have hidden fees like other salons which would explain that the price listed is only an estimate. I found the one - and by that, I mean the one and only stylist and salon I will go to for the rest of my life. I discovered NC Salon+ online after hours of researching the best way to go from a full head of black hair to pastel hair amazingness. NC Salon is one of the few places in the GTA that offer Olaplex. And after watching Sylvia Jade's YouTube video of her pastel lilac hair from NC, I decided this was the place to go. First, I highly recommend scheduling a consultation before booking an appointment, which is what I did. You get to talk to a stylist during the consultation and they'll give you a realistic sense of what can be accomplished with the hair you currently have. Also, they'll give you a quote on how much everything is going to cost. From there, you can choose to put in a 10% deposit to book your appointment (which goes towards total costs) or just be on your merry way. Like other reviews have mentioned, their services are expensive. Is it worth every penny? YES. Growing up in an asian household in Markham, the $7 haircut by a family friend's relative was always the way to go. But my past 'cheap salon experiences' have been so bad that I've almost grown a phobia to salons - almost. When you're paying for hair services at NC Salon, you are definitely getting your money's worth AND more. The appointment: I booked an appointment a week after my consultation with Erika. Erika is a total sweetheart and has a talent of getting you to tell her what you really want or don't want. Which is great for me, because I tend to lose my ability to speak when I'm getting a haircut. Throughout the appointment, Erika and her team were very transparent about what was being done to my hair, what products were being used and how it applies to the pricing of my quote. During wait times, Megumi would serve me DELISH fruity green tea, while Erika even lent me one of the salon's iPads to play with. Of course, you can also hookup to their Wi-Fi and use your own devices to amuse yourself while you wait. The place: Located on the 2nd floor off the strip of stores on Yonge st, just south of Bloor. The interior is very fresh and clean - with a white and woodsy motif going on. The washing station looks like something out of a sci-fi movie, very cool yet very comfy. I'll admit, I slipped into blissful naps while I was getting my scalp massaged and my hair washed/shampooed. End result: As much as I don't want to use the word fleek, my hair is definitely on fleek. Never have I ever been so happy with my hair. And considering the transition I went through (black to blonde), my hair is still in great condition: no breakage, less fallout and just as smooth as it was before getting bleached. I had a such a wonderful experience at NC Salon, that I had to create a Yelp account for this! I follow top hair salons, and NC is at the top of the list in Toronto. I checked out their Instagram page and was very impressed with their work on balayage/ombre hair styles. I immediately booked an appointment with Charles, who is a Director-level stylist there. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND. First off, the salon is pristine and the customer service is excellent. From the minute I walked in the receptionists were warm and brewed me a hot cup of tea. Charles is patient, professional, and incredibly detail-oriented. I brought pictures of the ombre I was looking for, and he immediately brought out their colour chart to share with me the colour combinations he would use to achieve the look. He was also incredibly transparent about which style/colours he thought would look best on me (which I appreciate, as I was seeking his professional guidance). What I appreciate most about Charles is the high level of communication he has with his clients. In every step, he would advise me what he was using / the benefits it has on my hair / pro tips for use at home. Even though I knew I was in good hands going into the appointment, his high level of communication throughout put me even more at ease. Although he clearly is a master in his art, I find it admirable that Charles was very humble and kind to his clients (he kept insisting on getting me some food / snacks from H Mart as my appointment lasted a while). He never sacrificed his level of service with time & even stayed an hour overtime; again, something I really appreciated. On a side note: Charles also visits different countries within Asia to learn best in class techniques/technologies for his clients back here. I found this very impressive and reflects his pure passion for what he does. The results were exactly what I was looking for & quite a change from my hair going into the appointment. But what's most impressive to me was that my hair coming out of the appointment felt WAY HEALTHIER than it was going in. Speaks volumes about the tier-one ingredients/products they use. I had the worst hair perm experience here. However my comment here is only against the hair stylist named Charlie/ Charles. I have done many hair cuts and at least 3 hair perm here with Erika and other stylist before. This is my second time with Charles. He measured my hair length first and the ruler shows my length is $220. Then he asked me to give him additional $100 just because my hair is thicker than others. , Nonetheless my hair is shorter than the last time I had hair perm. I found this salon based on high yelp reviews. I was a little turned off when the receptionist advised me they had a cash-only policy, but went against my instinct and went in for a cut. I explained to the hairstylist that I wanted about an inch off all-over and a little more structure to my overgrown long-bob. Came to see Raymond three times now at NC Salon and have had stellar results each time. I've gotten a balayage ombre (which took 6 hours given my virgin black hair) as well as a follow up haircut. You'll be amazed by the results of your hair by Raymond - however, there is quite a steep price point to pay. Some of my friends had consultations with an estimated price of ~$1000 to get silver blue hair. I only got a regular balayage which was a little over $300. What kind of irks me is the fact that they kind of push you to put money into the account so you can get discounts and save up for another colour. This is merely a marketing scheme trying to get you to visit again. Another tip! Don't fall for their upsells and cross sells of hair products. When I first came I was so overwhelmed. Every time they touched my hair with any product, they would tell you about how amazing it is and the wonders it does for your hair. Then when you're about to leave, they'll try and sell you on the 6 or 7 products they just spoke to you about. When each of these hair products costs ~$50, that really adds up. I've gotten their hair mask and it didn't do the trick back at home. I can see someone coming here for the first time paying close to $1000 if you're looking at a haircut, balayage, and then getting persuaded into buying a couple of hair products, and don't forget the tax and tips after that! ALSO I wasn't able to pay by card for my haircut which was annoying. Had to run out and grab $60 of cash to pay for it. Overall if you can fork over the money, pay Raymond a visit for an amazing hair transformation. I had went from a dark brown to a blonde balayage sort of thing in at a salon in a different city a few months ago. My hair was pretty dry and damaged so I decided to settle for NC for an Olaplex treatment since I was in the area. I booked an appointment for the next day. Pros: - The receptionist told me the price of the session up front (80+tax). I like that since generally salons will backhand you with a higher price when you pay at the end. Granted I was only getting a hair treatment but still. - Charles was the one applying the Olaplex on my hair and thoroughly explained what he was doing step by step throughout the whole time. He was upbeat and informative. - Okay, so he lowkey tried to sell me products (hair oil, hair milk, and hair spray) by using it on my hair, explaining what it does to my hair and then placing the products in front of me as if he knew I'd be reaching to get a closer look (which I did). This isn't usually what I'd put as a pro since I hate people doing that but he didn't shove these products down my throat and just basically said "Here is x product, this is what it does and this is how it will help with your hair." I didn't feel pressured to buy anything at all which made me want to - I was given tea and offered chocolate. A+ Not-really-a-con: - I've had the exact same type of Olaplex session (including wash/head massage, blow-dry style and all) for $67 after tax at the salon I had coloured my hair. However, different places, different prices; I get that. - I didn't really feeeeeeeel a difference before and after the Olaplex treatment at NC than at my other salon but it's I'm not too concerned. I still feel I got my money's worth for the whole experience, overall. I'd come again (mostly because I also bought a membership so kinda have to lul). read more

Every time I come here, it's a fantastic experience. I've gone to this location a couple of times and the Richmond Hill location once. I personally refer this location. When I come here to get my hair dyed, I always see Raymond, he's amazing! He really knows his stuff and isn't afraid to put in his honest opinion if you ask for it. He also walks me through it when he colors my hair, explaining what each colour is going to do/what affect it will have on the final look. Oh and and the head massages they give when they wash your hair are amaaaazzzzinnggg. I just want to fall asleep while they massage my head and neck. This salon may be a bit pricey. It's $65 for a hair cut and starting of $150 for a colour, but honestly, it's well worth it. I was never one to indulge in such a way, but after many fantastic experiences, I keep finding myself coming back for more. However if you see yourself coming back for another visit in the future, I'd recommend you take a look at their points system. If you sign up, you'll have to make a deposit of a certain amount, that deposit will then be used towards future cuts/colours/treatments/purchases. Each tier has its own perks and discounts (all are listed on their website) Can't wait for my next visit! read more

Colour: I got two bayalages done by Raymond (a one process and a two colour process), and haircuts from Erika. I was terrified for the bayalage but Raymond reassured me during the free consultation and throughout the entire process. The free consultation is great since Raymond spent time analyzing my hair's condition and colour, and we went through pics of what I wanted. Raymond was VERY honest about which colours wouldn't last, and what colour my hair would most likely fade out into. I have dark asian hair and he brought it to blonde bayalage with NO ORANGE BRASS. Mine is now 2 months old and it's still beautiful. The colour results were bang on: I receive compliments wherever I go. I've referred my girlfriends and relatives to Nc Salon. For fans of Guy Tang, I think Raymond is a great Toronto alternative and more accessible =) I bring in Guy Tang colouring images to Raymond for samples of what I want. Haircut: Between Raymond and Erika I do prefer Erika's haircutting more. Raymond is a master at colouring though. Shower: The massage they give you is the best scalp massage I've ever had at a salon. Be prepared to fall asleep. Salon: Extremely clean and modern. Very comfortable. They have lockers where you can store your personal items. They also provide a warm tea to enjoy during your service. Comparing with other Salons: I am very picky with stylists and I think this is my go to salon. I used to be a client of GOA and Cooney for Hair (other Korean and Japanese hair salons), but NC Salon tops them. Much pricier but worth it for the attention and quality. Is the Price Worth it? YES. I am generally not a splurger, but for NC Salon I will. I know asian girls who had to go back to the hair salon to get their hair fixed at other salons. But this time we finally found someone who can actually do this treatment. His work was quite impressive and well worth the high prices. I am pretty satisfied with my result, but the right side of my hair is definitely more curly than the left side, and it seems one segment of hair on the left barely has curl in it. Had my hair coloured for the first time professionally, and Raymond and his team were fantastic! I have really dark almost virgin hair from last colouring my hair from box dye a couple years ago, the process was long and required a few bleaching processes to achieve the proper colour undertone. The first bleaching was quite scary looking because it was so brassy, but that's what's going to happen when you bleach right from dark hair. Came in to meet with Raymond for my first consultation today. Place is immaculate as was service. I got tea immediately after being seated and Raymond went straight in with asking plenty of questions, as well as giving his personal advice. I think I may have found my Guy Tang of Toronto but we will have to see at my appointment in April. I found NC Salon via Instagram, and knew immediately that I trusted Raymond with my hair. He unlike a lot of salons in Canada offers Olaplex a new hair lightener that promises to bleach the hair without damage. Pricing is up there, but you can't expect great service without the great fees. Will have to update in April, so far I love Raymond! read more

Got a haircut here 6 months ago. Nowhere is it listed cash only for cuts unless over $50. What annoys me more is the girl who did my hair messed up and I'm not satisfied over this place. Got a simple wash and cut here by Ko. She was so sweet and attentive to detail. I got a pretty short haircut which takes getting used to, since I've always had long hair, but it's starting to grow on me. I am never going to a non-Asian Salon again. This place really knows how to deal with difficult Asian hair of all sorts. I have a lot of hair, that is very thick and stubborn. Raymond is not only good at colouring hair but also very good at cutting it - I hope I can have him colour it one day but it's so expensive hehe. He listened to me, and made me feel comfortable by ensuring me how much hair was going to be cut off and what he was going to do. I just got simple long layers put in, but I never realized until having my hair cut by him that I had never had it cut properly. He thinned out my huge poofy head of hair and now styling it is so easy. It is sleek and clean. it's crazy how the right cut can change the way your hair feels and acts. I could go on and on but anyway... you will leave the place feeling refreshed - the ambience is calm, professional and clean and the staff is just the same. I just love sitting there haha. A couple weeks ago I received a haircut here for the first time and was very satisfied with the result. My hairstylist was super sweet, listened to my concerns and was pretty gentle with my thin, fragile hair. It has been over a year since my previous trim and she was able to turn my bird's nest of a head into manageable locks, while still keeping it fairly long. Since I do have a sensitive scalp, I didn't enjoy the scalp massage that much even after asking to tone it down a bit. I also opted for the NC+ cut which includes a temporary hair mask treatment, but I'm not sure if that is worth the extra $15 from their regular NC cut. Thanks to the other yelp reviews, I brought cash just in case and I did end up having to pay cash even though my haircut was over $50 before tax. Other than that, I will most likely come back again in the future now that I know what to expect. read more
