I don't usually right reviews at all but I just had to voice my experience so no one went through the same I did. So I came here to get my hair blown out for my grad pics and on the phone I was like I really want them to stay and look nice and the lady was like we can definitely have them hold because that's why I was going to a salon to get them done. But then when I got there I was told by my artist that really was so sweet said that she wasn't sure it was going to hold which was really upsetting when I was told on the phone it 100% would. I know this isn't her fault but I really wish I was told the truth and that they would've had to seen my hair. And by the time it was the end it looked nice but something I could've done at home but right when I got home it fell out and I really didn't have time to ask for anything else either. It's just upsetting as a college student who doesn't really have money to spend $50 on hair just for it to be the same that I could've done at home. read more

I've been to Hair Culture 4 times for myself and my boyfriend. They can usually accommodate us to get appointments at the same time. The stylists are all very friendly and talented. I've gotten highlights and cuts here, loved them both times. My boyfriend's hair style is a little unconventional but they always are willing to try and work with him. It's our go-to in the area. read more

I came here for hair and makeup for my engagement party and the stylist did a great job for hair but was clueless when it came to the makeup. She was asking me what Makeup I had and was scrambling around to find the products they had in stock. It was really frustrating dealing with that especially when I was under a time crunch and she also had a customer waiting on her. read more

I've gone here a couple times to get a wash, blow dry and beachy waves. The first time I went the price was very reasonable so I booked again and same thing. I went again and got the exact same service and was charged 3x as much as the first 2 times. I was told that the stylist makes the prices and can charge what they want. Why have prices online if a stylist can charge what she wants? When I called and booked the appointment, you would think they would have said I'm booking you with a stylist who charges more than the last 2 services you had done. I was absolutely appalled at the price and will never return here again. read more

I normally don't write reviews - good or bad - but I had to on this. I went to Hair Culture on November 2, 2015. I showed the quite friendly receptionist a photo of what I would have liked to do with my hair (I will attach photos if I can figure out how to do so) - a simple, very tame ombré, consisting of 99% of my hair being one shade of red and basically the very ends fading into a coppery blonde - to which she replied that they could do it. She set me up with an incredibly friendly and excited stylist (I honestly can't remember her name at this point, unfortunately), who also took multiple good looks at the photo of my request and seemed really confident in her ability to make it happen. I was truly excited! Two or three hours and almost $200 later, my hair looked nothing like what I had asked for. Only the top maybe 3 inches were red, the rest was orange. Not blonde. Not copper. Orange. And there was no fading transition. It was literally just a block of red meeting a block of orange. Now let me paint this picture - my hair isn't short. It extends approximately 4 inches below my collar bone. I'm also in the military, so I have grooming standards I must adhere to which include hair shall be kept a natural color. You can squeak by with a very tame ombré - but most certainly not red roots and orange body. To add to the heartbreak, as soon as she showed me my new hair and saw that I wasn't nearly as ecstatic about it as she was, the entire mood of the shop toward me changed. The receptionist wasn't nearly as friendly toward me as she had been before and the stylist working next to mine gave me some pretty hateful looks. I didn't ask her to fix it because 1- I didn't want to add to my already asinine bill for the day & 2- I was just in shock. I truly couldn't make many words come out of my mouth. Needless to say, I bought two boxes of brown hair dye (the lightest color a very kind gentleman at the Salon at Ulta suggested to cover it) from Ulta and spent the remainder of my evening completely undoing what she had done to my hair so I could go to work the next day without getting in trouble. Now you may ask what has caused me to write this incredibly long review almost 2 and a half months later. I have spent $130 at another salon, plus another probably $40 on box hair dye from Ulta... I still have yet to be able to cover this for longer than a week. These people absolutely destroyed my hair. Within 3-7 days, any hair dye I put in washes right off of the orange-blonde covering most of my hair. It looks absolutely horrible. The absolute aggravation I feel every time I see that "blonde" coming thru my nice brand new hair dye has made me finally sit down for the past twenty minutes to write out this review. I would give them zero stars, but it will not allow me to do this. For almost $200, I would expect many things. But above all, I would expect professionalism from a stylist and their entire shop, and to walk out of their salon feeling like my hair looks better than it ever has. I got neither of those things. I will never return to this salon, and I will never refer my friends to them. read more

This was my first visit & I was disappointed. I was the first appointment for the stylist but she was 10 min late getting started. She was nice but cut my hair shorter than I instructed. I left looking as if I had done my hair myself. Certainly not what I expected for a $45 service. read more

Went for the first time with my 17 yr old daughter yesterday. I had a picture of a style I've been trying to get my hair cut in for a while, with no luck at other hair dressers. One even told me my hair wouldn't do that, which is fine, and I got another cut that time. At this salon Kate said it shouldn't be a problem, set to work, and got the best approximation of the cut she could with my hair, taking it from long to medium. She did an excellent job. My daughter has a much shorter hairstyle that requires clippers. Cassandra did her cut and she loves the style they agreed on. With that being said, the atmosphere was uncomfortable for me. I have an anxiety disorder that makes going to new places decidedly uncomfortable anyway, so I thought that might be it, but when I asked my daughter she said she felt uncomfortable too. I'm used to chatty hairdressers, it's easier for me to get comfortable chatting, but there wasn't much of that. I filled the silence with my anxious chatter and asked my hairdresser questions about herself which she answered, but overall my chatter just seemed to make things worse/more uncomfortable. As I was preparing to leave my hairdresser went up to the front desk. I assumed it would be to tell them what charges were necessary, but when I came around the corner, she immediately stopped talking, gave me a look I can't/won't identify, told the receptionist she would tell her later, and walked off. After I paid, I tried to find her to tip her but she was nowhere to be found. I asked my daughter what her impression was and she said she felt extremely judged the whole time she was there and couldn't wait to leave. Pricing is average for higher end salons in the area, although it can be tricky to figure out what you'll actually be charged. Their brochure is confusing, and when I asked, the receptionist pointed me to a card on the front desk that explained the charges by level of hairdresser you get. Overall, the haircuts were great, but the atmosphere for us wasn't great. I might go back for the good haircut, but I most likely won't because I clearly felt like we weren't welcome there. read more

Hair culture always provides a solid cut and color. I've been very happy with all of my services there, but the prices are way too high for the location. I can get a less expensive cut and color with the same or better quality in Philadelphia. If the prices were more affordable, I would keep going to hair culture. read more

Have been seeing Dianna for a few years now. She is great...patient....considerate and listens to me.

I will never come back here. Unless you're made of money go elsewhere. My normal hair dresser at a different salon was not available to take me last minute. I have a wedding to go to tomorrow and just wanted a toner on my blonde/brown hair, and a cut. Over the phone I made a walk in appointment, I was told it was going to be $47. She told me the toner was $27 so I figured the rest was for the cut. I got added on a $10 soak enhancement so I figured my bill would be $57. WRONG. I get up to the counter after half of my hair is chopped off (which is so short I don't know how to curl my own hair tomorrow for a wedding) I was charged $87 not including tip. I told the front desk girl that she over the phone told me it would be $47. She said the cut was $47. I said in what world would someone charge someone that to cut their hair. That's absurd. Now I'm not even happy with my hair that I just spent $100 on and no color was even added to it. This place is shit. The only thing that was good was that the woman doing my hair was friendly and knowledgeable. Hair culture ruined my night and my day tomorrow. read more

Really upset with how my hair came out. It looked great after it was blow dried and styled. I washed my hair about 2 days later, tried everything to style it, I've never had a problem blow drying and straightening my own hair, now I do. Looks okay on the bottom layer, but my top layer of hair looks like a bowl cut. The layers are so short and blunt, I can only put it half up to make it look okay. Have to wait a few weeks to see if it can be fixed, because I can't take the annoyance of it any more. read more

To really appreciate the level of friendliness and competency at this salon, I have to give a disclaimer about the horrible history of my hair. Naturally, I have frizzy, dry brown hair. As a teenager, I did it all. Bleach blonde chunky highlights (remember those?) Did it. Jet black hair like Christina Aguilera the next month? Done. And straightening. Lots of it! Needless to say, my hair nearly fell out by the time I was 18. Now, in my mid-twenties, I was TERRIFIED to do anything that may damage it since it was finally back to its natural state. But, I still have a bit of my old wild side and felt that I was ready for a (small) change.. ..Enter Jenn Hale! I can't express Jenn's kindness and patience with me, not to mention her knowledge of coloring. I (hesitantly) showed her pictures of somewhat subtle celebrity ombres/balayage - think Rose Byrne. She showed me colors using swatches of fake hair, which are pretty cool and helpful if you have trouble picturing it, like me. I then added in that I basically wanted it to look natural - I literally said to her "like I spent a week in Mexico and my hair lightened up." Change of plans. She picked out an entirely different color - one that I would never have chosen myself but she was so convincing, I couldn't say no! And thank god I didn't! Even though I gave her such little direction, it was as if she read my mind! Also - she suggested placing the highlights further up than I had originally asked for so it would be less maintenance and look better longer.. She saved me money and another trip to the salon. Now that's putting your customer's needs first! Over six months later, and my hair is still damage-free and looks AMAZING. I'm thinking of going back soon because I have SO much faith in her, I feel absolutely fine experimenting now. Basically, whether you're a little hesitant (like me) and looking for a more natural look, Jenn can totally accommodate; and if you're looking for something over the top dramatic, she's completely capable too! It's all about what YOU want and that's what makes a great salon setting and hair stylist. read more

I had made an appointment for a cut and color at Hair Culture while I was visiting my parents for the weekend and was incredibly pleased with my experience. I'm usually not very adventurous with my hair and go for a standard long style, however I decided to go for some ombre highlights and a new shape with layers. I was initially very nervous but my stylist Joanna listened to what I had to say, gave me some of her own input, and made me feel very at ease. I loved that there wasn't any forced conversation though she was friendly and happy to answer any questions that I had. My hair far exceeded my expectations and I will definitely be coming back again. read more

I've been here twice. The first time I had a great experience with Cassandra. I asked her to cut about 2 to 3 inches off of my hair. She listened and cut a good 3 inches. My second time I had Liz. When I told her 2 to 3 inches, she cut off 6 to 7 (I have before and after pictures as proof, so this is not an exaggeration). Anyone who enjoys their long hair knows that it's frustrating and upsetting to have someone ignore you and hack off such a large amount of their hair. Typical example of a stylist doing whatever they want. If I go back, I will make sure I do NOT get her. read more

DO NOT GO HERE!!!! The owner was so rude to me when I asked for a refund after MY HAIR WAS COMPLETELY BUTCHERED HERE. I can't even wear my hair down it looks so bad and needs to be fixed immediately- another $200+ gone. I went in because I wanted to be blonder. I came out with thick chunks of color and they are blotchy, don't blend at all, and are randomly scattered around my head. It looks like a patch blanket. The owner tried saying it was my hair's fault for not coloring correctly and that "the middle won't color but the ends and top would".... that doesn't even make sense, she just kept making excuses. So many excuses. I don't even dye my hair often and she was saying they couldn't "fix my hair" but I didn't even go in for a fix?! I went to get it done. LOL. Please do not waste your time here and do not give these rude, horrible people your money. They should honestly be shut down. read more

So this past weekend I went to Hair Culture with my my three sisters for a gala in AC. My sister made all of our appointments, three blow-outs and one up-do. Blow-outs started at $26 and up. My stylist was Kate, we got along fine, but the only weird thing was that she had me down for an up-do which I corrected her as I should have been scheduled for a blow-out. Fast forward to check out, I was charged $65 for a blow-out and curls. My two other sisters had the exact same service with a different stylist and were only charged $36. My sister with the up-do was charged $55. Tell me why my services was almost $30 more. I feel like they charged me for an up-do bc that what they had me scheduled for. I questioned the receptionist who was going to check with the stylist. I was told by the owner/manager Diana it was bc she was a master stylist and it was a professional style. My sisters stylist was also there and reported that she charged $26 for the wash and blow dry and $10 for the curling. Right in front of all of us Diana said "well you under charged them." And told the receptionist "just give her $5 back" to shut me up. Morgan, my sister went to give her stylist her tip and overheard Diana saying to a fellow stylist and in front of another client. "It's not like we're going to charge her $500, but that's what you get it's a professional service." Not once, even when asked could she justify the pricing difference besides saying Kate was a master stylist and she curled every piece of my hair. Even though my two sisters had the exact same service and I had no control or say on having a master stylist or not. I even called the salon asking to speak with Diana/owner or to have her call me and explain the pricing and have yet to hear from her!!! She called my sister not me trying to say we mistakenly heard differently, but had no courtesy to call me! I will never go back or would recommend the salon to anyone!!! I came to Hair Culture about a year ago for a balayage/ombre. I was super nervous because I've seen so many terrible ones but after some research I chose Hair Culture and was really, really glad I did. My stylist, Joanna, was great and my color was seamless. It cost about 150. I also got a haircut recently from here, by Jenn, and she did excellent work. My hair was long and damaged, and she was able to keep it long but it's soo much healthier. My hair feels fabulous. The wash/haircut/blow dry was 45. I definitely recommend this place, and will be returning in the future for both colors and cuts. read more

I came in June 1st 2016 to get my hair dyed. I went to a consultation about getting my red hair dyed blonde a week before. I had an image that I showed the stylist Liz that I really liked. She said it would be hard to do and that it might not come out exactly like the picture but she would try her best and it would be similar. I told her that I did not like the look of highlights and that I wanted balayage. She went into the back and came up with a plan. It involved highlights but she promised that it would not look like highlights and that it would look very natural. During the consultation we did a strand test and my hair lifted great. The whole purpose of me getting my hair done was so that the red would be gone. I had very high expectations for my hair especially because of the cost. Flash forward a week and I come in to get my hair done. Liz started to apply the highlights and she dyed my roots and the top section of where the red started. Every other piece of my hair was highlighted. The pieces that were not highlighted were dyed a shade of brown to match my roots. Although I did not really want highlights I was very optimistic and put all of my trust in Liz because she was the professional so I figured that in the end I would still end up with what I wanted. After washing the bottom section of my hair I could see that my hair was very dark and had a little bit of blonde (that was yellow at the time). This scared me. I immediately knew that I did not like it but I did not say anything because it was still wet and it was not completely finished. As soon as I saw the first piece of my hair dried I was devastated. I hated it. The top of my hair was still red. My hair was very dark. The highlights looked greyish/green to me. The non-highlighted parts of my hair are dark brown. I said that it was not what I was expecting it to look like and that it was very dark and not very blonde. Liz told me that later on it will be lighter and I can come in and get more highlights. The thing is I wanted to dye my hair one last time and be done. I did not want highlights but I trusted Liz. I so badly want to like my hair but it just is not what I wanted and not what I expected. Also it does not look like it cost $200. I am aware that it is a process and an expensive one at that but I feel as though I could have done a better job myself and been much happier with the results. I am overall very disappointed in my hair and the way it came out. I am sad to say that I will probably be going back to my red hair to cover up what I got done. read more
