The haircut was fine. It's hard to mess-up a buzz cut. But Brian wiped my face with his hand. Three times! How unsanitary and dangerous! Who knows where that hand had been before he wiped it off on my face. If I end up with pink-eye or a skin rash or some other disease, I'll be sure to let management know. This salon presents a very strange situation; as you enter the very crowded vestibule; you are supposed to know or guess that you sign in on a computer screen....what? It's chaotic at best. How about somebody there greeting customers (some just new off the street) with a hello and what can we do for you? Then direct you to the "screen" where apparently you sign in? Strange. The hidden costs will stop me from ever coming back. You advertise $17 for shampoo and blowdry. Without asking or telling me, I was charged $20 for that "shampoo/blowdry" service as it's "her" price she said; and then additionally without asking or my knowledge; she twirled a couple times with the curling iron and charged me for that also. Say What? Isn't that part of the blowdry fix? Don't you use a comb, hairdryer and/or curling iron? Come on now; let's not get that greedy. I have VERY thin, fine and short hair but I was not satisfied with the job at all.Even with my "suggestions", I could see nothing good was going to materialize so I just wanted to pay and leave and give a generous "Christmas" tip.Then I was charged this arbitrary $27.....what? Your sign says....but?....this was definitely.not a good customer service move. Go find someone you trust and go there. I like Greta at White Marsh Center; no trickery there and a good job. A little far but worth it. No more of these Ardmore shenanigans and all the reviews here I pretty much have to agree with...is there an actual manager? Please don't go there and get a blow out. It was the worst experience from the rudeness to how badly they did my hair. It's not worth it and you really don't save much if you just go to a more reputable salon. My hair was pulled, my head was poked, the hair spray amount and product put in my hair left it limp and greasy. I also had hair spray all over my chest. Lastly, I was told several times by the hair dresser that my hair which is long and thick - she lost money because she could have worked on several clients versus just mine. On top of that...I had to go home and redo my entire blow out. What a waste of time and $48! Consider this a very stern and honest review/warning - DON'T GO HERE! read more

Nice shop, nice stylists, but too expensive for a guy that needs a simple haircut. I can't speak for the ladies but it's too pricey for a guy wanting a simple cut. To start, I wasn't greeted when I walked in. Which is ironic, as they have a door buzzer you can hear next door. Someone did come over after finishing a cut and I got checked in. It was a longer wait then I expected, almost 20 minutes with just 2 guys ahead of me. So I kinda got off to a bad start. Things got better as my stylist was nice and didn't try to sell me any product. This is a plus. After I sat down she asked how I wanted it cut and got started. Pleasant, talkative but not overly so. She was A-OK in my book. But never asked how I wear it, once she was finished the cut. Just asked if I took gel then styled my hair how she liked. Not a biggie really I'm just used to being asked at other places. I was kinda in a hurry and didn't really care as I was heading home so I went to checkout. Where they did try to sell me product...but I expect that. What I didn't expect was an upcharge for having my eyebrows buzzed, which I could not see listed on the service "menu". Of course, there was no corresponding down charge for skipping the wash/shampoo. So it was 23 and change(plus tip) for a simple cut and buzz of the brows, which is just too much $$ for the Hair Cuttery, IMHO. That's bordering salon $$ for my quick and simple men's cut. The store has been remodeled since I was in it last. I'm guessing it will be remodeled before I'm in it again. read more

When the woman who was to cut my hair approached me, she wasn't masked. I told her I was not comfortable and asked if she would wear a mask. She said no. At this time (12/20/21), with Omicron and Delta raging through the U.S., it is inconceivable to me that hair cuttery would allow anyone to work without requiring that they wear masks. Being unmasked in a salon is even more dangerous for patrons than being unmasked in a restaurant where contact with employees is fleeting, compared to the 10-15 minutes of direct contact in a salon. read more

I have been coming to this salon for at least 10 years. Everyone is friendly and I've seen the staff take special care of their elderly customers as well as children. Today I had Lara, a new stylist do my blowout. she was wonderful and took the time to ask me exactly what I wanted. We talked through some possible add-ons that weren't necessary in the end since she did such a nice job. I was satisfied and I'm so glad I was introduced to Lara because I will definitely be coming back to have her do my hair. read more

Very disappointed - I had a 2pm appointment today as a first time client and they called at around 9:45 today to ask if I could come in at 1 or 1:30. I said I can come at 1pm and rearranged my schedule a bit. I arrive promptly at 1pm and waited 20 mins before letting them know I was walking out due to the wait, particularly since I accommodated their request to come in early. I've been going to this location for more than 10 years and had the same stylist for nearly all that time. My stylist got to know me by name and not only remembered how I liked my hair cut but things I had going on in my life. She always knew how to address problems I had with my hair (like cow licks in the top back). I was saddened to find out she had to abruptly leave due to health reasons and thought I'd have a hard time finding another stylist like her. Well, Arsha quickly put those fears to rest when I booked "first available" stylist for my next appointment. She not only did what I said was normally done but also proactively added work with scissors to make things even better. She also had an ingenious hack for avoiding an itchy post-haircut shirt collar - she tucked a plastic bag around my collar before putting on the apron, which kept hair from getting caught in the fabric. I didn't even have to change my shirt the rest of the day. She was thoughtful, very personable, and did an incredible job. I'm so glad I didn't have to look far for my next go-to stylist. read more

When my last haircut started getting out of control way too soon (2 months versus the typical 5 months for me), I took a bold move and headed to the Hair Cuttery for a trim. My decision was cost conscious; I was not looking to drop another $70 so soon. I popped in over my lunch break and was the first person on the walk-in list. Within a few minutes, I was up for my haircut. My stylist took the time to listen to my preferences and desired outcome for the haircut, and checked back with me throughout the process. He even consulted me about the temperature for the water of my shampoo. There were a few scary minutes during the actual when he left to consult another stylist. He addressed my concerns and said he always does that when fixing someone else's work. He used a method I've never seen before to work my layers, which had me a little nervous. In the end, my trim was exactly what I was looking for and the service I received well exceeded the price I paid. I'm considering make a return visit for my next haircut. read more

I've had my hair cut twice at the Hair Cuttery and both cuts came out just fine. This place is mainly for walk-ins, and with the exception of the weekend rush they get you in fairly quickly. They do a shampoo, cut and blow dry for $23. I don't know about you, but for me that's a steal! I have a simple cut--short hair, long layers, no dye or highlights--so paying $60 at a center city salon for a trim is insane. Would I trust this place for a completely new style or bangs? Maybe not. But for a simple trim it's a-ok. Judging by the clientele it seems to be most popular for mens' and kids' cuts, but as a female I can tell you I've gotten two good cuts there and would go back. This salon saved my hair. I had a terrible coloring experience from a salon in Wynnewood. I called Hair Cuttery immediately after leaving that horrible salon, and Jaclyn picked up. After telling her what happened to my hair, she had me come in for a consultation immediately. Jaclyn was amazing! She fixed the mistake the other salon made and gave me a beautiful balayage for a very fair price! She's super genuine and knows what she's doing. I felt so at ease in her hands. I've been here a few times now and I just can't anymore. I don't like checking into a kiosk. Nobody greets you, it's odd. It really feels like the building is just a place where a bunch of individual stylists just so happen to be working, not really a cohesive team. It's probably not a big deal to most but I'm used to a barber shop where you make friends and there's conversation flowing around. I have had a few different stylists and I liked Katie a lot. Quick, always did the cut right, and super nice. A couple times She wasn't working and I sat in a chair for an hour and didn't like what happened to my hair. Thankfully my mop grows quickly. I would give Katie a 5 star rating for sure on her own but the other experiences and the kinda snobbish vibe (and the stupid kiosk) drag the score down. read more

First of all if you make an appointment or by chance you get Carolyn to cut your hair run now. I went for a simple haircut. A few layers soft layers after growing my hair for a year. She chopped it up. Looks like a two year old did it. She doesn't know what she's doing. She had to ask Anna, the stylist next to us, to fix it. Anna told me to come back in a month to 6 weeks and maybe she could fix it. She gave me a card for a free haircut. Carolyn has no right calling herself a hair stylist. She should be ashamed of herself. To top it off her cuts cost more because supposedly she is an experienced stylist. I will be calling the owner of the salon and will show the manager what Carolyn did. It will take another year to grow this horrible and embarrassing cut out. Beware of hidden costs, I was there a few days ago to get a simple trim I have a simple hair but it's long, I have no layers, color and no highlights. They charge an additional $13 for long hair and my trim price was $38, that was my stylist price. I was also informed that the prices are going up in the New Year. I was there about 45 minutes and spent $51 on a trim. Insane, now it's time to find somebody I trust without hidden cost or snobby attitude. I won't be back. read more

I went here for a quick trim between my semi-annual decent haircuts and learned a few things: 1. A shampoo and cut is $18, a shampoo, cut, and blow-dry is $26. if you have slightly longer hair (i would consider mine "medium" length) then they add on an extra $10 for the blow-dry (yup, thats essentially $18 for a quick blow-dry at hair cuttery) 2. It only takes 10 minutes to shampoo, condition, and trim your hair. 3. you can't properly shampoo, condition, and trim hair in 10 minutes. 4. my mum has a better understanding of what a straight line is than HAYDEN, and a decent pair of scissors so 5. i will not be returning here. TL;DR: Avoid Hayden at all costs. Better yet, go to SuperCuts. read more

To be honest I would never have dreamed of having my hair cut , colored or blown out at a salon like Hair Cuttery, Super Cuts etc due to my job. However I have used Hair Cuttery for several years for my three young sons. I work in the television business so being pulled together at all times is important to my job and requires weekly blowouts. Last year my son tried a girl at Hair Cuttery, Ardmore location, who was new to the salon. He received the best hair cut he had ever had from Kristin. I decided for under 20 bucks why not try a blowout? Kristin was amazing! I have thicker difficult hair and the look she created was perfect! I next tried a cut, same great results! I then was nervous, but tried color. Best blonde highlights to date! Previously I had used very expensive over priced salons. the results I get with Kristin for a fraction of the price are outstanding! I can t speak for other stylists at this salon, but I can say I am VERY pleased with Kristin and HIGHLY recommend her with no reservation read more

I thought that the Hair cuttery would be ok for my young kids to replace our hairdresser who closed his business. It isn't. They don't schedule appointments, they don't care if people have to wait or to come back, and when you ask which would be a better time frame to have less wait they're rude. I went to another hairdresser who was shoked by the bad quality of the hair cut. Their style is non-existent, they don't listen to what you want, they don't even dry wet hair. The hair cut is cheap (a little over $17 for a kid) but it's a disaster. Will never set foot there again. read more

This review is mainly for my stylist, Carolyn. This was my first ever visit to a Hair Cuttery, and yes I had trepidations. I have gone to many fine salons, in Philly and elsewhere. When I got tired of going into the city, I tried two salons here in Lower Merion. The first was way overpriced and I didn't like the products they used, so I tried another, a small friendly place. Loved the stylist, but suddenly the prices were raised by about $20. That was too much for me, and also I thought too much for the salon. Two of my coworkers use Hair Cuttery so I thought, why not give them a try. When making my appointment, I chose the highest level stylist and after reading reviews, settled on Carolyn and selected an early appointment on a weekday. I was very pleased. My hair looks as good as it ever did from expensive salons. I waited only abut 10 minutes, but only because I arrived early. Carolyn listened to my hair and product concerns, and even used products that had less fragrance since I can't stand most fragrances. Best of all, she didn't blink when I told her I absolutely do not want my wavy hair blown straight (that has not always been my experience). So, I think I've found my new salon. And a question for YELP: Why the heck is this place listed as a "barber"??? read more
