I Paid 35$ for a BLOW OUT , and the lady that did my daughters hair was already doing someone else's hair cut and decided to wash her hair in between. She handled my daughters hair very roughly and was very rudely her and me. She forgot what she wanted 5 times And kept on asking "what are you here for again "? And she didn't even get a blow out she got it straightened poorly by a lady named Carmen She was left with her hair wet sitting alone for 30 minutes. Visited yesterday for the first time and requested Tabitha, based on previous reviews. I have a sort of Jimmy Neutron style going on but needed some tightening up- so to speak. The original cut done at another salon was a bit off. For a fraction of the price I spent before, Tabitha did an awesome job. She listened to what I requested and I left there very pleased. I was a walk-in for a desperate eye brow waxing. I recently moved here and I don't know where any salons are. I went in thinking wow $8 for an eyebrow wax, what a steal. I should of turned around because this is a place for hair and from reviews I have seen at other locations they do not do this well either. They ripped my dang skin off. My eyebrows were so sore the entire day, and still are. I have red burn looking marks lining my eyebrows. I will post a picture if I can figure it out. I don't like to complain about hair places as I usually don't have one. I went here today to get this bob haircut I saw on a pic since my beautiful long hair is falling out. Did I get the haircut like the one in the pic?? NO!! What I got is an uneven, way too short (didn't notice until I straightened my hair out) and a pile of mess. I had a very bad experience a couple years ago . I had a low lights added and the girl made my hair grey looked like an old lady .......... i cried .. Pros: Tina was gentle with the care of my hair, her shampooing style was a massage. I felt super relaxed and I liked how she asked questions. The manager was patient and took her time explaining the services and discounted my visit because my hair wasn't completely dry and I refused to stay any further. Cons: My mother and I were quoted a different price then what was on the price board. We were told by our stylist and the manager it's because we're black and have a different "type" of hair. So we had to pay a surge price. To say the very least we were surprised. But, ok, we were in a crunch and accepted. Normal price is $18 for shampoo and blow dry + $11 for deep conditioning...we were quoted $39. In addition my mom wanted her hair trimmed so they tacked on an additional $19! Tina, unfortunately did NOT shampoo my hair thoroughly. She did a good job on the front but not the middle and the back. I pointed out the problem immediately and said my hair was not clean. She said she was going to deep condition my hair and then wash it again. Why??? That defeats the purpose of the deep conditioner! I let her do it her way. She added shampoo to the deep conditioner and did the middle and back only. My scalp still did not feel clean. At this point I'm just ready to go. Things got worse. She proceeded to blow dry my hair but she has no clue how to blow dry it! We were charged extra for the blow-dry bc they said it was considered blow dry "straightening". If you're going to charge me more for the blow dry then at least give me a stylist that knows how to work with "our" hair. I guess we should have called and requested a stylist that has a lot of experience doing ethnic hair and ask if there is a special price list we need to go by. I made an appointment beforehand and the wait was only 5 minutes after I arrived on time, which was normal for most places in my experience. I was in a hurry and needed to refresh my hair color so that was what I told the lady at the reception. There was this weird thing too, the lady yanked my key chain out of my hands at one point which I let go of because I decided to keep my fingers. Turned out she thought I had a tag for the haircuttery on my keychain that she was going to scan. Ooookay. The hair stylist made an executive decision (without consulting with me, that is) to do just the roots, not root to end with regard to coloring. In the process she told me that she thought the hair tone that I had at the time was "kinda pretty" so she decided not to cover it. Whuuuut? I mean really. I was there because I wanted another coat of color over that "pretty one" I already had. I politely asked her to reconsider but she said she didn't have the time to do all of my hair because someone made an appointment on the phone to come in right after me. The lady who was well aware that I was in a hurry as I mentioned it before she began, would stop for some 5 minutes several times to act out a story from her family life. Trust me, I did not encourage her, and I love a good story but I was already mad at her for not doing what I asked in the first place, and I just wanted to get out of there as soon as possible. I spent longer that I needed after the stylist put in something in my hair that she said was a conditioner. Later it appeared to be a mask that I didn't request that cost me $15 for application. Okay, now to the checkout. Here are the services they did: color application FOR JUST THE ROOTS, hair washing + the mask that I didn't ask for. The bill came up to $65. It was hot out and my hair is naturally curly so I asked the lady not to dry or style my hair. Even if you take away the mask that the lady said I "needed" so again, she made an executive decision to apply it, it's $50 for the root touch up! OMG! And that was before the tip!!! I was ready for a mediocre service due to the fast-food-like operation of the place but I was also expecting so save some. Now if it were full hair color, that would be just fine but I ended up purchasing the product application I didn't want or need, and paid a whopping $65 just to enjoy having my hair roots colored! The place is a rip-off! The hair color turned out reddish. Just what I requested NOT to make it look like. I said it some 3 times that I was going for heathery color NOT coppery one. The hair became coarser and dryer than it usually does after dying. I will never be back, and I don't recommend you the place! read more

Went here yesterday on a whim because the few other places I called were booked. When I called this place, I asked for Tabitha because she was mentioned in a google review as being a good stylist. She happily stated that she was available within the next few hours. My daughter and I both got hair cuts for $32 total and I was very pleased. The haircuts here are good, and the stylists listen when you tell them just a cut, etc. They are also good about not shoving products on you, or trying to push a hairstyle on you. Their mens haircuts are okay, but my father did have a small cut on his ear from an inexperienced stylist once. My mother and I have never had that problem. She really loves the shorter haircuts that she gets, the stylists don't shy away from using electric clippers which my mom appreciates. I have long hair and the stylist always layers it well. Wait times can be long on the weekend, but during the week it is fine. As far as waxing, both my mother and I have had our eyebrows waxed here. She has less sensitive skin than I, and has never has an issue with redness. I on the other hand have, and request extra aloe after, and have to shower/ stay in house for a day after due to redness. If you have very sensitive skin, finding a threader may be a better option. Overall a standard Hair Cuttery with good service and fair prices. We will be coming here again. read more

I was in the Dumfries area, heading to target, and spur of the moment decided to check this hair cuttery out. There was quite a few people in the waiting and I didn't have an appointment so I was fine when they told me there was a 25min wait. The receptionist signed me in and said I was welcome to wait there or shop next door and come back. Perfect! I went to target and grabbed the few things I needed, got some Starbucks, and got back minutes before they called my name. The girl who did my hair was super friendly and knowledgeable. and FAST! Well honestly, english is my 2nd language and I only been 2 years in USA, but I highly recommend that if you are going to have someone working on a salon, that at least you understand that person when you speak. It doesn't have to be perfect but jesus. There is a lady that I didn't understand anything of what she was saying, she would speak just words and not a full sentence so I was so confuse of what she was saying, plus the one that cut my hair was the same thing and when she washed my hair was like a 5s wash, she didn't even clean my hair. I have been going to this Hair Cuttery for my hair cut about three times a month, and really have not been disappointed. However, if you are looking for a simple clean up around ears and neck and expect not to get charge 18$ for this five minutes worth of work, you may want to find another place. Do not waste your money!!! Went in around 10:30 am no in the place . The receptionist checking me was rude!! Not part of her high standards ! Gave me to a woman that completely butchered my hair!!! I think it is extremely important to do this review. I have been to Hair Cuttery 3 times and all were great experiences. But this past experience was by far the best. Hair Cuttery really wants every customer to come home happy. They want you to be happy with the results. I came in on a busy Sunday without an appointment and we barely even waited. It has always been this way everytime I have come in. I asked for a haircut for myself and my 2 daughters while my 1 year old was sitting in his stroller. I asked for Tabitha who was the last stylist I went to. She was there and cut each of our hair. She did do a great job on both my daughters hair, each cutting split ends, adding, layers, and texturizing. I had come in to get rid of my many split ends from my long long hair, getting new layers, and also asked for texture since my hair is very straight. Being that my son was getting antsy, I was in a bit of a rush but I felt satisfied and paid. They even honored a military discount which is a plus! On my way home, I noticed that I still had a lot of split ends left behind. I was able to drop of the kids at home and come back to Hair Cuttery. Tabitha was there waiting for me and did exactly what needed to be done. I apologized but she did nothing but make me feel like a satisfied customer. They have the best service, and they have very talented stylists. More importantly, they want customers to be happy! Great experience again! read more

I don't know what it is with this place but every hair stylist worth a damn leaves. The most recent and greatest loss is Danielle. I lived in NJ My whole life and had my favorite go to guy no one else touched my hair. Even when my husband was PCSec to VA, I Still drove to NJ to have him do my hair. Then I met Danielle... I needed my hair done desperately and I found Danielle. She was awesome....everything about her was great her personality, her professionalism, and her hair dressing abilities. Then before I know it... Faces are becoming new, stylists are leaving and the people didn't seem to even get along. It was a stressful environment....I am thinking why?
