Seems they have their act together!! I had an excellant experience and walked out with an amazing color and style. I was extremely impressed. I stopped going to Hair Cuttery after my stylist left. I tried to go back once, and felt a bad vibe so I left immediately. It has been at least a year, tried another salon in between and decided to give hair cuttery another try. After all, it all depends on your stylist...not necessarily the salon. The hair cuttery web site is very easy and helpful. I checked out the level of stylist, time of apt, and hair package deals. My choice was Carla who was listed as the master stylist (new to Newtown). I hesitate sharing her name bc she was so good that I can see her filling her book and me having trouble getting future apts. However...she was so good and pasionate that I have to be selfless and share. I was in the salon for quite some time as I had color processing. I observed all of the stylist and their work. I have two major complaints. First I'd like to say I was mislead about a coupon I found and ad for online for the 50% off any color service. And had to pay full price for the color job. Secondly, the service provided was absolutely nothing like what I asked for. I'm shocked and beyond upset on the 5 hours I spent at the salon and left with SUCH A HORRIBLE JOB. When I saw it i wanted to cry but beyond tired and had no fight in me left. All I wanted to do was go home and cry. The bayalage I wanted was nothing like the pictures. There's horrible blessing done in the bottom of my head which is nothing like the color asked for. I can not believe it was a misleading coupon which I had previously asked about prior to the appt was a problem. Secondly having to pay for a disastrous job. I'm beyond upset and do not ever want to go back to this salon. The person doing my hair was very sweet and nice and tried to play it off as if it's totally gorgeous meanwhile I'm just shocked. Does my hair look anything like a balayage or remotely close to the hair color I had asked for and was promised. I feel as though I was ripped off in cost for such a HORRIBLE job. I feel like crying every time I see my hair. Not only did I pay so much I was given THIS. I mislead about the coupon and I'm EXTREMELY UPSET ON THIS JOB. I came in here last night realizing I was running out of time before my vacation to get my color touched up and a trim. I will say that I am pretty satisfied with my overall experience! I came in at around 5:30p.m. and wasn't sure if that was too late to be coming in for a larger service, but the girl at the front desk told me that it would not be a problem and that I would just have to wait about twenty minutes for someone to take me. The girl who did my hair did a fine job and was very sweet. Really, my only minor complaint was that the service cost $83, which was more than I was anticipating (I had gotten my roots colored, a gloss on my ends, and a tiny trim but no blow dry or anything). For some reason pricing there I have noticed to be a little inconsistent. But besides that everything was great and I would return... maybe just inquire about pricing before hand! read more

My balding husband has more hair on the back of his head than I do after she finished with me . There is no way to fix it there is no hair left to fix. I am going on a cruise and will be humiliated to appear in public, communication is a huge responsibility for a stylist and this was an epic fail. This was despicable. The master stylist "Laura" was abrupt rude and unclean. She came out from the employee lounge. She directed my mother to sit at her station. It was still full of the last persons hair. When I told her that it was not cleaned off she took her hand and swept the hair off the seat. I asked her to sanitize the area. She became angry and told me that the salon was "THE" cleanest place she knew. She quickly washed my mother's hair. She didn't even put a towel over her neck. She was dish and wet. She did not wash the front of her hair until I told her to please wash it again. When she cut her hair she finished in 10 minutes. I had to direct her to layer her hair and recut it. After two disastrous kids haircuts at Great Clips we decided to try out the Hair Cuttery. It turned out really well! Not only did they do an excellent job cutting the kids hair evenly and to our specifications, they were very kid friendly and sensitive when doing stuff like hair washing and blow drying. Understandably, little kids can freak out when you approach them with a noisy gun shaped machine blowing hot air. But the stylists here explained everything and made it alot of fun for them. Anna was incredible. After just moving towns, I needed a new stylist so I went to a salon way far away where I left very dissatisfied with my color. My normally blonde hair was bleached almost white. Leave it to my 15 year old son to tell me he needs a haircut at 5:30 pm of the evening before he leaves on a trip with his church group. Arghhh!!! Luckily, we knew of a couple of franchise hair shops that take walk ins and are open late. We drove over to Hair Cuttery in the Village of Newtown Shopping Center, and found the "Open" sign lit, and people inside being served. I sent him in ahead to get started while I parked the car, and then followed him inside. He was already getting his hair washed when I came in. I sat at the front window to watch and wait. He has longish hair and only wanted a trim to help out with the heat that was coming while he was camping. The conversation was animated, with him touching the back of his head and around his ears, and his stylist listening and asking questions. Twenty minutes later, he was finished with a short blow dry and comb. He looked great, and seemed very satisfied with the result. At $18 for the men's haircut (prices are higher than listed on Yelp), and a $5. gratuity, the price was still right, especially given the circumstances of our visit. Son said he would go back there again. That's a relief. Just give me more notice next time. read more

Hair Cuttery in Newtown, PA is supposedly a low-priced alternative to the pricey hair salons around the town. The salon provides hair cutting, coloring and brow waxing services. Most of the stylists (with the exception of two specific ones) working in the place are fair at doing basic cuts. The salon itself tends to be dirty. There is grime on the floor boards. The floor is always littered with hair. The sweeping of hair tends to be very sporadic. As a result, you will find the seats and counters are covered with hair as well. Asking them to clean up, before you sit down, resulted in a lot of snark followed by a ramshackle job of cleaning up. All done with a constant stream of muttered curses. As noted by a couple of other reviewers, making appointments serves no purpose at all. Irrespective of having taken the time to schedule an appointment, one finds oneself waiting and waiting and waiting for their turn. The stylists are always "running a little late" and they didn't bother to let you know because they "didn't have your number", they "were not sure they had the right number", and the classic, " I have your number in my phone but have misplaced/lost/damaged/run out of charge on the phone." Objecting to this will result in the stylists being"too busy to cut your hair" if you are foolish enough to try and go back for another experience. The prices seem to change day by day. The price chart displayed has no bearing on what you will pay. If you do decide to support this establishment, ask for the price before they start any work. I have had a stylist charge extra for a conditioning treatment that was already part of the cut and color package that I paid for. And do note that complaints to the powers that be at Hair Cuttery headquarters will yield nothing but extra stress and aggravation. My recommendation: if you are looking for a reasonably priced haircut, go to Great Clips located nearby. If you need hair color and styling, go to any of the better salons in the area. The price certainly will not be much different than this supposedly low priced franchise. read more

I give two stars for only ONE reason. I have had my hair cut there for over ten years and dyed for 8 years. Never having a problem until this year. I went in like always for a root job and an ombre at the end. The girl I had being new, didn't state so until she starts bleaching my WHOLE head. My hair was already blonde and didn't need anything but a root job. She didn't listen and my whole head was bleached. Not to mention she messed up the toner and almost turned my hair into a completely different color. Thinking it was almost done, I stayed. She didn't do an ombre but random sections in my hair. The whole thing was a disgrace and I left with wet hair. It took her 5-6 hours just to do that without a haircut and charging me with the bad toner. A tube and half went into my 'ombre" which was too much and stained my clothes for weeks. Never letting me know my "ombre" would creep up and dye the blonde. It wouldn't have if just did a root job like I asked the beginning. I went back to get it fix since it was NOTHING I wanted. I never done this and the place was like a second home, but this took the cake. I complained and said this wasn't what I wanted. The stylist told the manager she told me this would happen and that is a lie. Not to mention I did not feel welcomed. I felt like an awful person. After the manager left, I suggest going to a darker color instead of more bleach and she didn't listen again. When I asked about finally getting my hair cut, she was going to charge me! That was the last straw and I haven't gone back in months, I now go to Tangles in Richboro where they make you look and FEEL amazing. read more

Recently moved to the area and was looking for an inexpensive but reliably good hair stylist. After reading yelp reviews of Newtown's Hair Cuttery, I went in for a disconnected cut with Sara S. I have short curly hair and its usually difficult to find someone who understands my style and how to cut it well. Sara S. was a rockstar! She listened to exactly what I needed and recreated my haircut perfectly. She talked me through every step of the process, explained all the products she was using and didn't ever try to strong arm into buying them. I will absolutely go back. The last time I was here I got totally ripped off. I used to pay no more than 180$ for a full highlight and this time I left spending over 300$. I went to the same hair dresser as before and she charged me 100$ more for having me pay per bowl of bleach and other very minor things but was very vague with what I was paying for. I called other hair cuttery stores in the area and they have never heard of this, if you get a full highlight, you get a full highlight. When I called the business they were very rude and acted like I was in the wrong but no one told me you pay per bowl and I've never heard of such a thing. They said they would get back to me and no one ever did. The hair dresser Sam is known to be very particular with her prices and seems to charge for breathing air at times. I came in for a trim to remove the bottom inch of hair. I have naturally curly hair and had a horrible experience. The lady who did my hair seemed to have zero knowledge on how to actually handle hair and showed poor salon etiquette. After she shampoo and conditioned my hair she rubbed my entire head with a towel creating unnecessary friction, damage, and frizz. In the salon chair she took a paddle brush and began tugging very rough from the top of my roots downward to move the tangles downward. My hair detangles effortlessly with proper technique. Instead of taking a wide toothed comb and taking her time to gently detangle my soft fragile hair, she used the same paddle brush and tugged at my tangles on the bottom of my hair. I could feel the last quarter of my hair strands break as she yanked away. I'm pretty sure I came out of that salon with more damage that I came in with. I've been getting my hair cut by the same stylist at this location for about six or seven years now. (It may be even longer. I can't recall for certain.) My stylist's name is "Jim." He is simply the best there is. Jim is literally the only stylist in Pennsylvania to whom I can turn to and ask, "Would you please give me a Military High and Tight?" and will deliver exactly what I had in mind. He may have a few minor questions regarding length, but those are matters of taste, and not questions regarding the style itself. Other stylists have drilled me with twenty questions about the style itself. They obviously did not know the cut. But Jim had no trouble with the style the first time I walked in the door. My guess is that Jim has a vast knowledge of hair styles. I've had other friends (both men and women) have come to this location and have asked for Jim to work on their hair. Jim has never disappointed any of them, either. There have been some months that I've just been too busy to schedule and appointment with Jim, and I had to rely on other cutters who were available on a walk-in basis. While their work was admirable, it just didn't come close to Jim's in both accuracy and style. Despite the fact that I've gone to Yelp to post these comments, I am generally not the type of person who would like to gush on about hair stylists. But given the number of years that Jim has been working on my hair, and given the consistent quality Jim has always delivered, he deserves every praise I can send his way. Let's face it: Jim is always ready to greet you with a warm, hospitable smile. Ever since I was young, I was never very fond of getting my hair cut by strangers... I could never relax. But Jim always makes you feel at ease by asking gentle questions about my career, my life and my family that have always made me feel completely at ease. Let me be clear: Jim is not snooping. Jim just wants to get to know the "real me" so that the cut I leave the shop with matches my personality and life. The last time I was in, I did not ask for my usual Military High and Tight. I figured that at age 54, I was just too old for that kind of cut. It was time for something less drastic. Jim simply smiled at me and asked, "So what did you have in mind?" Honestly, I didn't have an answer. But I was so comfortable with Jim that I told him, "You know, Jim, you know my hair and my lifestyle probably better than I do. You also know that I don't like to fuss with my hair very much in the morning. Why don't you style my hair the way you think I would enjoy?" He told me what he had in mind, which sounded very nice, and within a few short minutes, he was done with the shampoo, cut and styling. The style he had chosen was perfect. I've gotten nothing but compliments on the cut since that day. And now a month has passed since I last visited. It's time for a refresher cut. I'm definitely going to ask Jim to duplicate whatever he did last month. (And maybe to let the top start to grow out, for weight?) Over the years, Jim has made sure that my experiences at Hair Cuttery have always been joyful ones - every time. And that is the entire reason why I've been coming back month after month... year after year. If the Hair Cuttery keeps hiring talented and cheerful stylists like Jim, and they are bound to be a success for years to come! I must give this establishment five out of five possible stars. I now found out the review was for a Sarah S, however it was my lucky day. My hair was so out of shape because I hadn't had a hair cut since I moved and then had surgery. I've had multiple disaster haircuts from many different "stylists". They cannot seem to follow simple instructions to give me a traditional men's haircut which was really just a trim. I colored my hair at home... looked like a pumpkin when I was done! I needed a place that could fit me in quick without spending a fortune to fix it! I was able to walk in and was seated with Devin fairly quickly. She took her time to listen to what I wanted and was able to get my hair back to a normal and beautiful shade of color. I usually cut my own bangs at home, but after a few cuts they tend to get a bit thick so i usually go to a salon to get them thinned out a bit and evened out. Decided to stop by the hair cutter for a quick trim while i was doing errands in the area. I have has a bad experience with getting my bangs cut there before but it was so long ago i decided to give it another shot. HUGE MISTAKE! I asked for a betty page/ U-shaped bang and the hairdresser kind of just blankly stared at me.... not a good start. I told her i liked my bangs on the shorter side and it was ok for her to even them out. Well! Apparently her idea of thinning my bangs was to cut layers into my bangs... Like i have extremely short hairs now layered over longer hair. This is supposed to be a straight bang! and thinning should be done UNDER the top layer of hair so you don't have extremely short ends sticking up.. And on top of that i now have chunks just missing in the middle and no shape what so ever. I have never cut my own bangs as horribly as this woman massacred mine. It looks like my hair went through a lawn mower. Should never have went back there. No i need to wait for my hair to grow back before i fix it. read more
