I felt welcomed as I was immediately acknowledged & greeted. The store was clean, bright & comfortable! Everyone there, even the other stylists, were exceptionally friendly. I appreciated how the salon worked together to help each other keep 'stations' & the overall store tidy. I was particularly impressed how thoughtful the stylists were with each other vs other salons I've been to in the past. I've sadly been to places where it truly seemed each stylist was 'out for themselves', but NOT this salon. It's obvious to me, this particular salon is VERY well managed. I personally have to commend the manager for how consistently the salon is 'run'. It's for that reason I keep returning AND I'm pretty certain it's 100% why the salon always has a steady stream of not only returning 'regulars', but new people as well! Couple of days ago had hair cut with your extraordinary Shiva. Did a great job. Unfortunately I bought a mouse at that time and needed to return it. I returned yesterday with receipt and nobody in that salon had the courtesy to help. They said they did not know how to do it. How in the world you have employees that can't do a return? I had been really excited to get my first hair cut since pre-Covid. I figured it would be my Christmas gift to myself. I had wanted to go to the PA location I am familiar with, but scheduling got in the way. I decided to stop halfway and go to this location. It is the closest to my hotel. Well, my poor GPS got seriously confused trying to find the shopping center. I had to use Google maps which took me right to it. I got to the salon in time for my appointment but my stylist wasn't ready. When she did come and get me, she was very cute and wouldn't let me finish explaining what I wanted. I told her I wanted a long shag with curtain bangs. All she heard was long. She took me to the sinks to wash my hair, the whole time insulting my hair, "too dry, too dark, etc". It was very off putting. After she washed my hair, she put two kinds of product in my hair. I told her I didn't like product to please go easy. She just smiled. She didn't do much cutting, but did manage to cut herself. She blamed my long hair. Once she was finished she went to deal with another person who apparently was either a coworker or family member. Seriously. It was like 10 min before she came back to dry my hair...again complaining because I wanted it blown dry. She wouldn't use clips and asked me to hold sections of my hair for her. On top of that, she burned my hair by putting the hair dryer on my hair, not above it, and smoke was just flying off my hair. Then, two more gloops of product even after I asked her to stop. She tried to do hair spray on top of it all but I was firm on stopping her. The end effect was I walked out of the salon looking like I had a blow out 4 days prior with no shape. My hair was so greasy and stringy from the product used It's a shame because usually I enjoy going to HC. I just will NEVER go back here. read more

The usual sit and explain my wants, shampoo and conditioner, and the trim. She did exactly what I asked. It was shorter than I expected but I did have a lot of split ends/dead hair that she cut off so I'm actually glad she did- after the haircut I definitely felt the weight of my head much lighter haha and have gotten so many compliments on my hair! This place is my greatest find in the last 10 years! My one year anniversary with Hair Cuttery was today so I wanted to celebrate and post my review. I'm a nut job about my hair. It is thick and wavy but I wear it super straight and if it is cut just the tiniest bit incorrectly, it is a disaster for me as I am a runner that does not do ponytails! Also, I'm a fanatic about my highlights but truly had just lost my desire to keep paying the escalating cost of my hair at other overpriced trendy salons. So, when I started to look for what literally would be my new home, my research was strategic and relentless - do you think I'm kidding! Anyway, I won't bore you with details but the problem was many of the somewhat more affordable, low key salons have very transient and not so experienced staff. They come right out of beauty school, then job hop. There was no way that would ever work for me. SO - then I found Hair Cuttery in Oakton who has a very long time, experienced staff that has been there for years. I go to my much beloved Senior Designer III Shiva who is phenomenal! My hair color is as great as Jennifer Anniston's hair at its' best. Shiva is fantastic with blonde on any hair color. My cut is always absolutely perfect not once has this self described hair nut ever been unhappy since going to Shiva and the Hair Cuttery in Oakton. And if Shiva wasn't available I would go to any of the other very experienced Hair Stylists/Designers at this salon. I notice a lot of cool looking guys who are wise to this salon, going in for those fades etc. These Stylists/Designers in Oakton are mature and not running around in their platforms but let me tell you...bring a picture..they can do anything and do. I would like to see more young women wise-up to this salon as I don't like the guys proving that they are smarter than us. When you go you will see it is a lovely, low key place where you might see very senior citizens seated next to someone getting an awesome fade. It is a quiet, reasonably priced place, staffed with seasoned professionals. They have fantastic products and this is the only time I have ever requested suggestions on what to use, because they are so experienced and I think...they are very cool because of it! So, get over your need for cool looking, over priced salons and your ageism, if any, and come here to get the greatest highlights and haircut/design with Shiva or any of the truly lovely people at this well kept secret salon. A decent haircut for exceptional value. I got a men's haircut with shampoo for $23. They took me on time for my appointment, and I was out in 15 minutes. This is a pretty no frills experience, and I'd say the stylist erred on the side of ruthless efficiency over precision and attention to detail. That said, the haircut still looked pretty good, and I'm happy. I might choose a higher-end salon for a special occasion, but I'd come back here for a regular trim in a heartbeat. They take credit, but my cash tip was much appreciated. read more

My boyfriend and I came here for hair cuts/trim tonight. I have never gone to a hair Cuttery but my boyfriend frequently gets his hair cuts at whichever location is closest to us. He was seen immediately and I was seen shortly after. Our stylists did good jobs and gave us what we asked for. His stylist definitely seemed a bit more personable than mine. However, this isn't really a complaint for me because I'm pretty quiet and don't talk much anyway. The haircut was okay, after SEVERAL times of me reiterating what I wanted, because the stylist decided that I didn't pick a good enough haircut and refused to do what I politely asked for without pouting about it and telling me I would look bad if she did what I was asking for. Even when she did eventually listen to me about the top of my hair, she cut the back too short. I had a picture I showed her and everything, and was visibly judgmental when I showed it to her, immediately talked about how she was surprised I was getting a "boy haircut". I called this location today to make an appt with the stylist who normally cuts my hair. They said, "She's not feeling well. Try back in a couple of weeks." I said that I need a haircut sooner than that so could I just make an appointment with someone else? They said no. "The appointment system is down. Walk-ins only." I said ok. I need a cut, wash, dry and flat iron. It takes about an hour. I'll be in later today. I arrange childcare and go there. The woman at the desk tells me, "We can't do a flat iron due to the virus." What??? She said, "No blow dry either because it will blow the virus around the salon." What???? I was wearing a mask as were the stylists. I don't have Covid19 in my hair. She said, "I meant to tell them to tell you on the phone." The irony... I could tell by her accent and voice that SHE was the one I spoke to on the phone. So unprofessional! Who let these women cut hair? Nutso people. First of all I got charged EXTRA why? Because I have a lot of hair. Was it 10 feet long? No. It was 2 inches past my shoulders. How much extra? 10 dollars extra. "for the shampoo and conditioner" and I hate that they cut your hair wet but then charge you to blowdry it. Why not cut my hair dry then? Oh because you can't cut hair. I asked for a trim and she went nuts and tried giving me bangs and layers and all this crap I didn't ask for. All of them are crazy. Do not go in here and let any random person cut your hair. I went with my kids for back-to-school cuts. Shiva did a fantastic job on my daughter's hair and treated her like gold. Ann did my hair and was distracted and rushed. All I wanted was a trim of my long hair and she butchered it. It's shorter than I wanted, 1-1/2 inches longer on one side than the other, and honestly looks like a hack job a 12-year-old could have done. I am a very low maintenance person when it comes to hair, but this haircut is so bad that it's embarrassing to be seen in public with it. I had to pay someone to fix it for me. Marcy is the BEST. I have been doing home trims and box dyes for nearly 20 years, but I really wanted some fun colors for the first time in my life, and I knew I needed a professional for that. Marcy happened to be who was available when I walked in the door, and she took me with no wait. We worked together for her to give me the exact colors I wanted, and she was friendly and gentle the whole time. After not having been to a hair stylist in years, I was nervous, but she made me feel at ease and I am thrilled with the gorgeous result. DESTROYED my hair. A four year old with a pair of scissors could have done a better job. I sat in a "master stylists" chair who has been cutting hair for TWENTY FOUR YEARS, so I assumed things would be somewhat o.k. (as I do not expect much from Hair Cuttery after a hand full of less than satisfying hair cuts in years past). Needed my hair cut for a job interview, I even showed the woman a picture, simple sytle, 3 layers at the bottom for movement. Somehow LONG layers equals bangs in this womans mind. BANGS. actually, that is not the correct word for them because it is just a super short chunk of hair that hangs in my face, no layers, no angling. This post is losing its focus because I'm so livid thinking about how f**ked up this woman left my hair. I would have been better off not getting my hair cut for my interview as opposed to looking like a drunk person FELL into my hair with open scissors. BEST PART??? I had to finish her job once I got home and noticed a TWO inch piece hanging longer than the rest. Guess she missed it while "checking the layers to see if they were even". No joke, it looked like she did not finish the hair cut as the piece was MUCH longer than the rest of my hair. Should probably also mention that the "TRIM" I asked for somehow translated in her mind to 6 inches coming off. My hair was down to my hips.... she. DESTROYED. it. (along with my confidence until this mutated front section grows out past my ears to tuck it back) Next time I will use my lawn mower at home, and get better, nicer results. NEVER EVER EVER going back. To sum it up, "you get what you pay for", and I was pissed at myself that I paid $18 to receive services that look equivalent to a haircut from a lawn mower, therefore I bi*ched at the right people and received a refund. I would NOT recommend this place to ANYONE! The lady who did my son's hair couldn't do a simple haircut .During the hair cut I had to actually steep in and stop her from cutting his hair because it was looking so bad. She chopped off so much hair! and the hair lines were so uneven. She tried to fix the hair lines but she somehow managed to make it worse. After I told her not to do anything else to my son's hair and that I'll go somewhere else to correct the problem she tells me "As long as he doesn't look down you won't notice the hair line in the back that much".
