Absolutely horrible experience. I went in for a balayage & asked for a little off the ends, only a tiny healthy trim as it was already short coming in. (showed a picture of what I had gotten done this past summer) I was getting ready for a trip/my maternity pictures & wanted my hair a bit lighter as I've had it done many times before... well, the stylist (Nikki) had NO IDEA what she was doing. She pulled a few of the foils way too soon in a rush & tried to tone right over it to brighten it up, that obviously didn't work.. So she put a different toner on it. That obviously didn't work either.. So then after getting back from the bowl we agreed that it looked BAD, very blotchy & hadn't reached the blonde level I 100% could've achieved in this session had she left the foils longer. So then she suggested a bleach bath. Well, after that was done my hair looked even worse, it completely stripped out the previous toners & made my hair an awful orange/yellow. So she toned it again. Then the haircut: she took off SO MUCH & it was incredibly choppy. She got done, I went to look at it & there was longer strands just hanging past the butchered parts.. After everything was said & done, she knew she messed up & kindly took 50% off the service. I still however had to pay $72 & spent half of my day there. So I called the manager (Jessica) the next day & she returned my call the day after that as I'm leaving for my trip.. she stated that unless I come in for them to assess the damage on my hair, she couldn't do anything about it. (I was on my way out of town & wouldn't be back for a month, there was no way I could come in, she wouldn't accept photos/time stamps either) so here I am, out of $72 that's not easy to come by, I rarely give myself a salon day as I have two littles at home & another on the way & spent half of my day sitting in this salon, loosing the integrity of my hair & money. read more

Would give negative stars if I could. Received a perm from Jessica. Not even once did she check the progress of my perm. She left it on too long and fried my hair. I now have an unruly, scraggly mess that I can't even style! I was extremely disappointed as it took a long time to grow it out. It will have to get cut off now. She rudly offered no resolutions or $ back. She indicated that it was my fault and that I'm stuck with it. My hair WAS in perfect condition. Well....we regularly go to the gurnee location for years and have always had a great experience there. They didn't have available appointments this weekend so I thought to call the round lake location which did. We arrived 5 min early ended up waiting 40 minutes for a scheduled appointment, during that time no one acknowledged us after checking us in, no one apologized they were running late, or Updated us when we would be seen. I should of took this as a sign to leave but since we had never had a bad experience at the other location I didn't. When we finally Did get seen the hair stylist completely messed up the hair cut, she was very friendly but the hair cut we requested. It was for a young child and just looked so bad. We rescheduled him tomorrow with our regular stylist but I just feel this is poor customer service. The hair stylist kept apologizing Telling me all day they were busy with kids going back to school, which I totally understand but if this is the case don't take more Appointments which in this case appeared to leave her overwhelmed and then making errors. Before leaving the stylist started apologizing again I was told to bring my child back and the botched hair cut would be fixed but that is not happening. I won't be going back to that location and I am hoping tomorrow something can be done to fix his hair. I don't write the review to bash the stylist but to hopefully have management see this and make changes in their scheduling policies so this does not happen again. read more

Went in with a girlfriend to have a nice day. Salon was empty and asked for cut , wax and deep condition. The manager cut my friends hair.... But said no time for wax or blow out and had to get going... Then someone else walked in and asked for a "consultation". The same person that had to go as her shift was over spent like 45 minutes ..,with us watching.. Very rude .... The woman that cut my hair was awesome and very accommodating....she listened and did an amazing job....I left feeling beautiful .... But we did not know what to say.... Stay away from this place. I had my hair cut and colored, showed a picture to the stylist and was assured that the blond tone I was looking for can be achieved with no problem. Well it was NOT EVEN CLOSE to the color I wanted that was on the picture. Same with the cut, I asked for layers but got none. I went back the next day and spoke to the manager, who was very rude and said that the blond tone I was looking for can not be achieved( I am Caucasian with very light brown hair ) I had my hair bleached and toned before with great results but unfortunately not at this salon. The bottom line, they don't know how to die or cut hair. All of the employees seem like they hate working there and I heard them gossiping and talk bad about their clients. First off, I came here at the end of September to get my hair curled (last minute stop in because the place I usually go to was closed) and the man who took care of me was WONDERFUL. I believe his name was Danny. It was my first time there and it was such a great experience. I talked to him about getting a haircut and highlights in the near future so him and his associate explained to me about the upcoming promos which brought me back in October. I came here in mid-October to get my haircut and highlighted for my very first time. The first girl that took care of me was great. I believe her name was Megan (blonde hair and pregnant at the time). She took the time to figure out what color I should get and was very patient with me and my long and damaged mane. I believe it took about 4-5hrs to do. She also cut my hair to my shoulders with short layers which is exactly what I wanted so I left a very happy customer. I went home and realized the short layers made my hair look very poufy so I went back into Hair Cuttery about 20min later to get longer layers (after calling to see if they can help me since Megan had already left). I met with this young lady who rushed me and was super aggressive with my hair like she was pissed that she had to deal with me or something. I spent about $170+ and in the end it made me feel like it was not worth it. WORST EXPERIENCE WITH A HAIRDRESSER EVERRRR!!!!!! read more

What a cold and impersonal experience. I asked for about 1/2 to 1" trim. However, Abi, the hair cutter (won't credit her with any title higher) felt her position was to lecture me on how much to cut off, in addition to condescendingly instruct me when to come in next and passive aggressively make comment to the length of time between hair cuts. Geee, I guess COVID and it's inconveniences and the fact that I've had about 500 hair cuts in my lifetime, not to mention a number processes and treatments, I wouldn't know that. What an embarrassment of an employee. It was a $22 trim. And I left with a really wet head, I guess you have to 'speak up' if you'd like it towel dried (which I had to do myself) or blow dried because neither was offered. Nice men and women work here. Prices are fine. Wait times are typically good but when they are not see below. They typically cut hair average to good depending who you get. For the love of hair cutting gods please turn the heat down!!! Get some air moving inside the place. Nobody wants to sit and wait 15-30 minutes for a haircut in a sunny oven like atmosphere. There are no blinds in the waiting area and it gets very warm and uncomfortable. Also get a television or turn up some music for the people that are forced to wait. I wanted to cut about 10" off of my hair because I was so tired of it. But I was afraid to, because my hair is thick, wavy, and has a mind of its own. It's nearly impossible to find someone who truly knows how do deal with thick, coarse, wavy hair. It's different from normal hair and many hairdressers just don't get it. I didn't want to end up with lampshade head, or crimped-looking 1920's hair or huge 80's hair. (Yeah, so much can go wrong with hair like mine.) Someone else with my wild hair type recommended Will Smith at the Hair Cuttery. I'm so glad they did... he gets it! He really took his time studying how my hair lays and cut to how my hair demands. He kept checking then snipping here and there to get it right. It was so well done, I even kept my hair the way he did it for the rest of the day! Normally when I'd get my hair cut by others, I'd have to go home, wet it down and restyle it to get it to look right. I've never known what it's like to walk out of a salon with my hair looking good. I'll continue to go back to Will, and will take my daughter there too. (Don't worry Will, her hair isn't as thick as mine!) read more

I went here recently to go from a dark brown to a light brunette with a few highlights. Not only did the hair stylist offend me for doing an at home job (so uncommon right?) but she also said it was impossible to dye over my pre-darkened hair. Her exact words were "Go home and sleep on it before you make any irrational decisions". Excuse me? Rude. Right away I asked for my jacket so I could leave. I have been coming to hair cuttery for years, I would definitely have called myself a dedicated customer. However I am never coming back here again. I went over to Fantastic Sam's on 83 by WalMart and they had my hair looking just the way I wanted within hours of leaving hair cuttery. Never again will I be going back to Hair Cuttery. I am not a salon girl, no frills, box dye and ect...but when I decided to go brown from very blonde myself, I did not fair so well. After my misfortunate home dye job, and a series of unfortunate choices at the salon, I was left with a dark brown color with a lot of very white highlights...resulting in a not so lovely gray effect! Also, so many processes were done my head was on fire. Today I visited The Hair Cuttery in Round Lake Beach, I had an appointment with WILL SMITH. I was bracing myself for whatever had to be done to fix my hair. Will was patient, attentive, very thoughtful of my situation as a whole. He first put some treatment in my hair to help replenish the moisture lost. SIDENOTE: If your head is itchy and irritated from processing, forget those home remedies..the treatment they have did wonders to soothe my scalp. Anyway, back to WIll. Whatever he did next was a miracle! The lovely highlights and pretty color my hair was underneath all that icky grayness was revealed. Will worked wonders on my hair in the least damaging way...no more coloring, highlights, or processing necessary.
