I had a great experience here with Janette and I highly recommend her! I popped in here on a whim and luckily there was no wait. This Hair Cuttery is located in a strip mall and near Dunkin Donuts. I just wanted a cut, but I opted for the blow dry too. Total was $28, plus tip. I have had SO MANY bad uneven hair cuts since moving to South FL, so it was nice to walk out of here with my hair looking good. Not expensive but not Supercuts cheap either. I would say the talent here is mediocre and touch and go. Depends who you get. I usually go just for wash and blow drying because it's right by my house. They charge $5 less than Contour Day spa for the blow out. Given a choice I rather go to Contour where the stylist seem more experienced in a spa environment. They also sell great hair products of a lot of good brands. You can call ahead for appointments but walk ins are usually accommodated easily too. read more

Based on past experiences here for at least the past 6 years....i would have gladly given them 3 or maybe even 4 stars. I've had to go back a few times for a fix after a cut. My family of 5 are not rock stars or models...and they have always done at least a decent job of cutting mine, my wife & our older 2 kids hair. HOWEVER..........this rating is about today. This is a Hair Cuttery.....in a strip mall.....in Sunrise....... next to a liquor store....not some salon on Las Olas After waiting about 20 minutes.....my son's name was called. The Mohawk has gotta be the easiest hair cut next to shaving the whole head. My son was seated...the woman (mid 50's) asked me what I wanted. I said "He wants #2 shears on each side.....leave the middle alone and give him a V in the middle of the back. He got straight A's again this year, this was his last day of school & he wants his Summer Mohawk". How easy is that? She replies......."I dont do that hair cut". I am VERY confused.........and ask ............"what do you mean?" She confirms her first assertion w/ "I DONT do that type of hair cut". I elaborate..........."All he wants is for you to use #2 shears on each side, leave the entire middle alone & give him a V in the back". She replies again........."I do NOT do that type of hair cut". I ask......"you mean you personally or Hair Cuttery?" She answers......."I can pass him to somebody else, but not me". They clearly reiterated that "We do not do that hair cut here". So we left. We went to a Supercuts & they did a great job on him. Apparently The Hair Cuttery in Sunrise, FL has higher standards of the types of hair cuts they give for $13 than wherever the Birdman of the Miami Heat gets his hair cut. They were condescending and rude regarding my even asking for the hair cut my 8 yr old son wanted. When we left...........he asked "What's wrong w/ a Mohawk Daddy?" I answered him....."Absolutely NOTHING.......they have the problem, not you". Can you imagine going into a restaurant and having them tell you..........."we dont put swiss chz on a burger........we dont serve wings w/o sauce........we dont make a Philly w/o onions........we wont put vodka w/ OJ & pineapple juice, etc". Changing faces will destroy a business. I have been going to that Hair Cuttery location for over 7 years. They understand that I have a very busy schedule and work off hours. The people line AMANDA and all the staff know me but when it is a bunch of new faces they treat me like an animal with disrespect and I work in the retail business. I am almost a bald man. It has never taken more than 3 minutes to clip my sides and shape me ever!! As long as I make it to that location with 5 minutes to spare and the sign says open the stylists that know me always take me cause I am the easiest 3 minute regular they have. This Sunday with an important business meeting on Monday I woke up as I work nights at 5pm. They are open till 6 pm as usual. If I didn't have an important meeting I wouldn't even go on a Sunday. The sign said OPEN. Their clocks said 5:48 upon my arrival and nastily the new faces not knowing me like the regular stylists jumped on me and said "we are closed come back tomorrow god bless go home see you go away ". I said " everyone here doesn't know me but they have never turned me away. I can pay cash or credit and they lied and said their registers are closed because there were still 3 people in chairs and 2 stylists free. If the registers were closed 1- why are they closing 9 Minutes before closing time 2- why is the sign still saying open for business and 3- My haircut as a 7 year regular would take 3 minutes as normal to just clip the sides on a 1/2 clipper and done and i would pay in advance ". The African American just kept screaming god bless and have may the lord be with you and bye bye. I work in retail and many days we have staff meetings at 6 am and we close at 10 pm and people walk in and say I just have one thing to buy and we are strictly instructed by our corporate office to never ever rush a customer and we are on cameras and MUST Stay open 5 minutes PAST The closing time posted so that a last minute customer never ever feels rushed. 5 minutes PAST closing. I came 8 minutes before closing and they had already turned me away. I ran into Amanda in the parking lot who didn't see me as he was in the back and would have taken care of me in 3 minutes and she felt so bad that they kicked me out that she offered to give me a discount rate tomorrow when I sadly will Be in that meeting with bad hair thanks to the unprofessional hair Cuttery Staff that literally kicked me out of the store with 8 minutes till close and Open Signs flashing and the front door open for business and 3 available stylists !! I think corporate in Kentucky needs to know as well as the local residents need to know avoid this location of Hair Cuttery in West Sunrise as their is no regard for customer retention. Does getting home after the longest of days 5 minutes later really make a difference in the scheme of your life NO!! But it sure made a difference in my scheme of being a so called regular who felt like I was being treated as if I had leprocy. By far the worse customer service. Maria and Amanda would just rush you out. They've left me with green/ash looking hair and the manager had to fix it. They treat you like they are doing you a favor... Tet forget you are paying for their service and you are the customer. DO NOT get stuck with Shellie. I think her only experience was on me and maybe a You Tube video that she watched before she came to work. I came in with fairly long hair and wanted a perm and a cut with a length between my shoulders and chin. She couldn't roll my hair up straight or tight. The supervisor, Logan kept re-doing her work. Then came the cut. I pointed out a few areas that weren't straight. Her response was that the hair was darker and my eyes were going to that spot. Bull***t. On my way home my hair had dried a little and the botch was very obvious. I turned around and went back. Thankfully the supervisor "evened" up my hair which is now waaay shorter than I wanted. The other stylist had happy customers and Logan is exceptional but AVOID Shellie unless you don't care about your hair or cut it yourself it'll probably look better. read more

So I've been the route of fancy overpriced salons and left thinking my hair was just ok after emptying my bank account on it or my hair was not even close to what I had asked for. Or where 20 different people touch your hair and now you feel like you have to tip all twenty of them. Well after my last stylist stripped my hair and tried to convince me it came out strawberry blonde exactly like I asked, oh and the front desk girl got rude, I decided to find a new spot. Either that or pull a Brittany Spears. (I was really leaning to Brittany guys) I passed by this Hair Cuttery on my way into publix and decided to see if anything could be done to fix my orangish hair. That's when I met Loudi and I've been coming here ever since. She helped me get it to a real color quickly. She has been there through my red.. no blonde..how bout pink? Lowlights...screw it. Blonde again phases of my life. Most of the time shaking her head but making it look great every time! I never would have thought that I would be getting my hair done at a chain location like Hair Cuttery but I have to say... she's amazing. And she does all the washing, blow drying, coloring, and cutting so I don't have to work an extra shift to cover tips. The prices are fair, and the atmosphere is what it should be. I have been going to this salon for the past 2 years, and I absolutely LOVE my stylist, LOUDI!! If you go here, ask for her: you will not be disappointed! Having medium-curly hair, everytime I get a haircut from Loudi, it is cut just right for my hectic on-the-go lifestyle that allows me little to no time to properly style my hair with a blow dryer. What's more, she is EXCELLENT at coloring hair, going the extra mile to ensure you are pleased with the end results, and reccomending shades that will get you lots of compliments once you walk out the door! And isn't that how EVERY woman should feel when they leave a hair salon?! I had a hard time finding another salon that would meet my hair styling needs when I moved from Sunrise to Miami, so I make the drive out to get my hair done here. The pricing is moderate, but definitely not as expensive as more reputable salons in which I would have to pay expensive rates to have the same level of service and work done on my hair. As a graduate student with a new baby, honestly--I cannot afford an expensive salon. Nevertheless, while my experience here has been good most of the time (only when I had Loudi), I have seen other stylists who are not as good. There was one woman who styled my hair once without accounting for the curling-up factor, and at home I had a curly wing on the side of my head whenever I pulled my hair back that lasted a few months--NOT fun; and another woman who seems to be a seasoned stylist there, having earned many recognitions judging by her styling station--once gave my fiance a haircut, and cut his hair so quickly and sloppily that she shaved off a small part of his eyebrow! Thankfully, it wasn't noticeable, so we didn't raise hell about it--but it was surprising to see someone cut hair so quickly and poorly, almost as if she was bored with doing men's haircuts. While some people might write-off places like Hair Cuttery as a "cookie-cutter salon", there are so many talented people that make places like this Sunrise location a pleasure to go to. You start to see this in how they maintain their stations, how they treat other customers while you're there, and how they maintain their own hair. You will know if they are passionate about their work in how they do things, or if they are just "getting by" on doing hair. There are other gems I have not seen here, I am sure. If you find a gem in a salon chain like Hair Cuttery, tip them accordingly if you have the means to do it! They will appreciate it, and remember you next time you go there. A hairstylist in a salon chain is oftentimes like an underappreciated artist. If your hair is a canvas, and they make it a masterpiece--they deserve to be treated and paid as the amazing artist they are!:) read more

I went in here one time to ask a stylist about humidity damage to my hair. Just so you know, I was born in Massachusetts and my hair doesn't agree with South Florida heat. I have thick wavy hair. It frizzes and it's dry. I walked in there asking the clerk my solution to this problem. She says to straighten it. I told her I wanted to keep my natural curls. She then said there's nothing she can do for me. I recommend just straightening it all the time. What kind of stylist is that! She doesn't know how to produce curly hair? She only was recommending that because her hair was obviously straightened. I was livid. So I went to another hair cuttery on Cleary and Nob Hill. Asked her the SAME exact question, she was incredibly polite and suggested I try a a Redkin oil (had to buy at store) and a deep conditioning that I can buy elsewhere. I don't understand how an establishment will allow their Stylist to come into work looking like they are homeless.. they have a gentleman that every time he stretched his arm you can see his undergarment which is very unprofessional, not only that he look unkempt and dirty.
