Toni at Hair Cutting Plus does a great job coloring my hair! I initially came here to get balayage highlights, and Toni was very honest with me about how the color would take to my hair (not favorably). We spent 2 hours experimenting on a tiny piece, and as she suspected it did not produce a pretty color. Fortunately we decided to do a single process color which came out beautifully. When I moved back to Bayonne, One of my first objectives was Find a stylist/colorist. i walked a couple of blocks and found "The One". When i arrived for my appt I was greeted by "E" at the front desk and within 5min was like we've known each other for years! The rest of the staff is also fun and friendly. Carlene is a smart business woman. She keeps it fresh with promos and new services while a lot of places get stuck where they peak. Thank you for Color To Go during the lockdown! My stylist/therapist/life coach Amanda is awesome. She's great with color and stays current with all methods and hair trends. She listens, tells me straight out if she thinks something is a bad idea, explains why and makes great suggestions without pushing. I know she wont let me leave unless im in love with MY NEW HAIR. HCP offers a great range of services and the Medi Spa upstairs is super-convenient, if you're into that sort of thing (wink-wink). Cant wait to get back. When COVID restrictions are over I'll fight anyone for Amanda's 1st available appt!! She has her work cut out for her. I'll start this out on an up note, the salon was clean, partitioned, all staff wore masks and were vigilant about keeping things sanitized. All downhill from here. My appt was late afternoon, I got there, checked in and was told it'll be a few minutes. I said ok and was waiting in the hall. It was then, I saw I got a call from the salon. (When I drive, my phone automatically goes to do not disturb.) I listened to the message and the gist; they were busy/overbooked, so my appt got pushed back 45 min. Great...! Long to short, there's a lot on my plate, being away for long spots of time, is difficult to say the least. Forty minutes pass, it's my turn. I go to get my hair washed, the sinks were separated by plexi-glass for safety. I was sitting there for about 5 min, another stylist asked if I minded moving, she needed the sink. She moved me to a seat, covered in plastic. (So no one sits there, social distancing?!?) I'm seated Right Next, to a young lady. Everyone was wearing a mask, I sat more on the edge of the seat and kept my head turn away. I was angry as heck. I wanted to get up and walk out, but didn't. I should have.... Sat in the stylist seat. I started to relax a bit, the stylist seemed calm, pleasant and confident. I said; get rid of the dead ends, layers all around. He goes, oh ok, so just a clean up. My back was toward the mirror the whole time. Not once, was I face a mirror. (??) Mid way, I re-affirm by saying, don't be afraid to do med layers. In the end; I GET A BLOW OFF CUT!! {The cut given to people, when the salon staff would rather not be bothered.} My hair looks, exactly the same, as when I went in. Just "cleaned up". I can still put it in a full ponytail. Nowhere near, to what I wanted done. "Med layers all around", how do you get, just a clean up/tipping from that?!? I just wanted to leave, asap by this point. 50 bucks later and I was. (It's Christmas, didn't want to be a scrooge, so yup I tipped the stylist.) I found my place and I found my soulmate! I am pretty needy when it comes to my hair. I needed someone to understand what haircut I need. And I needed one badly! I have been looking for a good hairstylist for a while. I came across Hair Cutting Plus after reading great reviews I called to make an appointment and based on what I needed the lady told me that she has someone perfect for me and I will be really happy. She paired me up with Joy. After many years of hair adventures I showed up to my appointment a bit nervous but open-minded. The atmosphere there is so laid back and happy! awesome music people talking and laughing. I immediately felt good. And then there she was- Joy fun edgy and badass! She knew what I wanted, she listened, she respected the length I was comfortable with. She gave me a great cut and blow-out. Thanks to her I look amazing! Last week I went back to her for another trim and I look even better. Thank you so much. This place is awesome! I wanted to color my thick, long, red hair for the first time. I had looked up a lot and wanted something fun but doable. I love my red hair, but I wanted a change for a bit. I didn't want bleach. I wanted a balayage type color. Since this was my first time and I needed childcare for 2 kids, I went to the salon to speak with a stylist about how long it would take. She said about 3 hours. I should have known she was a bad choice for me as soon as she said I don't have thick hair... I got a babysitter for 4.5 hours. I ended up being at the salon for about 6 hours. Laura bleached my hair, didn't color it like I wanted (I showed pictures and described that I wanted some streaks in addition to the ombre-like color). I'm glad she screwed up, though, because I was able to cut most of that horridness out. The girl who washed my hair was nice but clueless. She kept trying to comb my very thick and now very ruined and bleached hair. The sinks are horribly uncomfortable. And the haircut I got was awful. Maybe this place is good for most people, but if you have thick hair, stay away. Oh, and the color was horrible. I had to go back the next day to get it corrected. And again "it'll take 45 min" turned into 1.5 hours...NEVER AGAIN. read more

I sent my mom there with a Groupon. She went to get highlights, cut and blowout. Her stylist was amazing. She absolutely loves her hair and they took their time to perfect everything! They did the exact color highlights my mom wanted and when they gave her a blowout they styled It so well. Honestly, my mom has difficult short curly hair so for her to come home happy from a salon, it's a blessing!!! Update: I went to get a haircut and a blowout and Jessica, my stylist was AMAZING! very disappointing ! this business has been around a long long time in Bayonne. stopped in Monday night because i had an event on Tuesday. just found out about event, needed hair trim Stopped in about 6 o'clock, website says they are open until 7. operators were busy, looked like would be finishing up in 20 minutes. Ever watch that movie Steel Magnolias? Where everyone knows everyone in town and they all go to get their hair done and gossip and feel... good? Yeah, this is Bayonne's version. In the 3 hours I was there politics were discussed, high school teachers sighed in relief that summer school had ended, sisters translated for each other, husbands held onto children while moms got a needed break, and people smiled. I purchased the most expensive groupon available because I wanted blue. I really wanted an ombre in blue, but 3 months of debating and searching and reading reviews meant I missed out on ombre groupons. Probably just as well. So I called Elena, told her what I wanted, she explained that the groupon was only for highlights and cut and blow-out. Oh. I made the appointment anyway. I figured that I would work it out one way or another and began searching pinterest for blue highlights. Yeah, that would work. Toniann was my stylist. She's a little fireball. I explain what I want, show her some pics from the web and off we go. Now I will state that my groupon did not cover all of what I wanted and I was cool with that. Toniann explained what all the charges would be BEFORE we did step one. There were no surprises at the end. My hair is subtle. Honestly, you really can't tell it's blue unless I'm in the sun. Is that a bad thing? No, I do at least *try* to look professional - it's hard for a biologist, though. I've had some health issues this year, so my hair has really suffered. Toniann noticed immediately, made sure that we worked on getting it back to healthy, and made me feel just a little bit better. No, they didn't offer me champagne and strawberries. They did offer me water, tea or coffee. Look, if you are one of the "beautiful people" who feels that your salon is a reflection of your status - don't go here. We don't need you to look down on the rest of us. If, however, you want to look and feel good, support a local business, and like being part of the community you couldn't ask for a better place. Just got my hair done here today. When I called to make an appointment just yesterday, the person who answered the phone suggested I come in for a consultation and that way they could book me for the right appointment - I wasn't quite sure what I wanted. I met with Pat, and we came up with a plan, and I actually got an appointment for color, cut and blowout the next morning. I took advantage of their great Groupon special. I will definitely be a returning customer. Pat did an amazing job with my color. It came out exactly how I wanted, even when I couldn't quite articulate what I wanted. She took a few pictures I came in with and picked a color that was somehow a combo of them all. Maria styled my hair beautifully. And the whole environment of the salon was very welcoming, upbeat, and positive. I enjoyed my experience and they got me in and out faster than I had planned on. read more

My nails are my thing and I could not find one Bayonne nail tech who produced clean work, took pride in their work, extremely knowledgeable on nail art--I can go on--until I found my gem Maria. She hits the nail on the head every single time I sit down with her. Her confidence in her designs and work takes the stress out of choosing what I want. She KNOWS her clients and on top of that is the best therapist money could buy. I get compliments left and right on my nails--her shaping is impeccable and her creativity can't be topped. REVIEWING MARIA NAIL TECHNICIAN: My sister got french gel tips done with Maria, and 2 days later the tips starting coming off! I have never heard or seen of anything like that. Maria only offered a complimentary gel mani, even though she had got tips done, which didn't seem fair to me. In addition, I developed a green fungus on my thumb, because I do not think she sanitizes her stuff. She uses the same file for everyone I believe. For the price she charges, I would not recommend her. Everyone can do nail art nowadays, so it's not worth it to go to her and have a bad experience like ours, after paying a hefty price for the service, which is bad anyways. I would have given zero stars if I could. Worst nail experience of my life. AVOID! read more

I use to go here for years. I usually get a wash, haircut, and blowout. A couple of years ago this would cost me $40, then it gradually increased and recently it cost me $60! Too expensive for such a simple hair cut. The salon is very nice and the staff is friendly. read more
