I must admit that I've been instagram stalking Salon Gatto for a few months now. Trying to get an appointment to cut my insanely long hair. From all the local salons I've been to over the years and ones I've watched on social media, Salon Gatto actually lives up to their image! I came in and met with Molly. A super cute, blonde woman that's friendly and very talented. She made me feel instantly comfortable. She totally understood what I wanted and my hair turned out amazing! The price was actually a little more than I expected, but since I get my hair cut about once a year, it's totally worth it. When I was done, I set up an appointment with her for December so that I'll already be on the books when I need a refresher. But, now the real kicker, I just found out that I will be losing all my hair in a few months, so I may not need that appointment in December.

After 8 hours on day 2 (13 hours in total it was orange)

If you have blonde hair or a blonde balayage and want to go dark- do not come here. The owner informed me after a botched appointment at Salon Gatto with Alana, that it is not possible to do that (which is interesting because blondes go darker all the time). After second opinions, other salons have said it is possible so I'd advise going there where they are confident in their hair coloring abilities. Initially, I went in to Salon Gatto with a blonde balayage on naturally mid/dark brown hair wanting to go back to my natural hair color. I made an appointment with Alana who was very sweet but an appointment that should have been easy (I've gotten second and third opinions on this) to go back to my natural hair color turned into a nightmare. The one specification that I gave upon arrival is that I wanted absolutely NO red or warmth in my hair as I only look good in cool tones. Somehow I ended up with exactly what I had not wanted- maroonish hair (or mahogany hair as a second opinion called it). This was after 5 hours and multiple attempts to fix my hair. I ended up leaving after 5 hours with horrible hair, dissatisfied and had still paid for the service. In poor judgement, in hindsight, I would up giving them a second chance to fix things the next day. This resulted in an 8 hour appointment inclusive of dark permanent hair color at the roots, a bleached balayage (ie. Whole head was bleached to remove the demi permanent hair dye), highlights AND low lights. This time I left exhausted, annoyed and still with the wrong hair color. Eddie was patient and tried his best to fix the mess that was made by the other hair stylist and the owner also stepped in to help on her day off which I did truly appreciate since my hair was a mess. However, while I was thanked for my time an patience. I was never offered a refund (only a deep conditioning treatment to fix my hair that was now overprocessed) or truly apologized to. Additionally, there was never acknowledgement of wrongdoing from the owner on behalf of one of her staff. Over the next few washes my hair proceeded to turn orange. I had to schedule another hair appointment elsewhere to fix my hair where I was informed that my hair was fried, overprocessed and would take a long time (likely a year or more) to recover. I was also informed that from the getgo if the first stylist had just gone a shade darker than my hair color (or a toner all over) it would have been fine but that she likely went lighter which is what turned me red. Additionally, when I went to my second opinion she informed me that my hair was orange and yellow and didn't have any brown in it whatsoever. What should have been a simple appointment, left me with months to years of recovery. While I appreciate them trying to rectify my hair (while in turn actually making things worse) a sincere apology and a refund would have gone a long way here. Neither of which were received.

I found Salon Gatto almost three years ago when I was looking for a hair change. I was white blonde, tired of the maintenance and was wanting to try balayage. From the moment I called the salon, they were welcoming and lovely, and recommended Piera as my hair stylist. Piera took my bleached locks and turned them into healthy, beautiful, and multi-dimensional balayage from the first visit. Piera has continued to be a part of my hair journey and has helped meet my hair goals even for important moments in my life such as my engagement shoot and my upcoming wedding! Her kind demeanor, ability to listen to your vision, and advice make her a pleasure to work with, and she truly can bring your hair vision to life. I am so excited for more balayage sessions to come leading up to my wedding. Work with Piera and she will make your hair dreams come true!

my hair has never looked so good! gatto is the best salon in Hoboken by far. The entire team is so accommodating, they present you with a great drinks menu as soon as you arrive, and the Silas are amazing. RaffI somehow cuts my hair into an amazing style without seeming like he's taken off anything and Melissa is amazing at blonde highlights. I come out looking like a mermaid.

I am so happy I've found an amazing salon in Hoboken - specifically finding Piera! I made my first appointment at the salon an two weeks before my rescheduled wedding and she made sure that everything was perfect. She did an amazing job on the color and made sure everything blended at the end. I went back a month later to get the keratin express treatment and cannot be happier. I have very curly hair and it has no frizz and blow dries pin straight. 10/10 - highly recommend!!!

I've been going to Salon Gatto since I moved to Hoboken 4 years ago. All the stylists there are PHENOMENAL. Recently, I have been going to Piera and I absolutely LOVE LOVE LOVE her. Most recently, did the hair painting and it came out so freaking amazing. I don't color my hair often (blame it on the years of my parents not letting me touch my hair), so I wanted something subtle yet noticeable and she nailed it! As for the covid situation, Salon Gatto has been taking every precaution. I have gone twice since they reopened and not once have a felt unsafe. Definitely worth a visit!

Absolutely love this salon! The whole experience felt luxurious and beats the boojee NY ones. Casey always does a fantastic job with my hair, getting the painted balayage that I want and she always offers up great styling tips when I want to change up my look. A colleague told me about this place and now I've been telling all my friends and colleagues. Can't recommend this place enough. P.S. I never leave reviews so this is proof of how much I love this place.

The before and after pictures. Alana was amazing!! Highly recommend her, everything was great! She was very professional and did an amazing job you can see from the pictures

I'm not clear anymore if they're going to refund me or not. I was left with a haircut that does not reflect what I asked for and was not resolved after multiple attempts. The only solution ultimately offered was to cut it even shorter into a pixie, which I had been clear from the beginning I did not want. When I pushed back on that and requested compensation for the $105.45 I've already spent on hair products/tools to fix the haircut errors, I was asked to reconsider leaving a negative review and was offered compensation "for the next cut", which sounded to me like a quid pro quo. After declining, the final responses I received from the owner included "anything we seem to do or say you turn around to be something horrible so I am done talking" which speaks for itself in terms of professionalism. I came in with clear references for a micro bob/longer bixie with a piecey, directional finish. The initial result was a pixie in the back disconnected from a micro-bob shape in the front. My bangs were barely trimmed but left uneven, and the overall shape did not reflect the references provided. The cut was then "corrected" by the owner. She significantly improved the back by removing weight and creating the appearance of more length without cutting it shorter. However, the front was taken much shorter in the process. My bangs went from hanging over my eyes to sitting roughly an inch off my forehead, and the overall balance of the cut was not resolved. The sideburns also remained visibly uneven in length even after this second pass. These problems are structural, not styling-related: * the sideburns are visibly uneven in length (even after being addressed, and these areas do not change with parting or styling) * excess weight through the crown creates a dense, rounded "helmet" shape * the transition between the very short back and longer front lacks cohesion * the fringe remains blunt rather than broken up and textured I raised these concerns during the appointment, and multiple stylists, including the owner, were involved. I asked another more trusted stylist for directions on how to fix it and sent the owner this explicit step by step guide. Still, you can see the result. I was told by a 3rd stylist brought in that the result was a dead-on match my reference, which is difficult to reconcile with the visible inconsistencies. The cut was styled in a way that temporarily masked these issues, and the pace of the appointment made it difficult to fully assess what was happening. I felt rushed to wrap up despite actively pointing out uneven areas. After following up, I was issued a refund, which I appreciate. However, I was also told the cut was correct and simply intended to be worn differently, which does not align with what is visibly present. This has also had a real impact beyond the haircut itself. I now have my sister's wedding this summer and may need to rely on temporary solutions like wigs just to make this feel wearable while it grows out. I will be including photos, both haircuts, my before and after plus the inspo with this review so others can judge the result for themselves. If you're looking for a more classic or controlled short cut, this salon may be a fit. But if you want a precise micro bob or similarly structured short shape, I would proceed with caution and make sure your stylist is aligned on execution, not just general aesthetic.
