We got my son's haircut by Blanca the barber and she did a great job. My son has a cow lick that is pretty difficult to get to look good and usually just sticks up. The first time she cut my son's hair she really studied how his cow lick hair grew. She even apologized and informed me she was taking long (which was not dramatically long) because she was trying to figure out how she would approach cutting his hair there. When she was done I could not believe how good it looked as we had just come to accept that was his hair and it would just always stick up back there and look a bit awkward. We were wrong we just had not found a barber with the skills that Blanca has. On top of being a great barber she has an amazing personality and is very kind and so easy to talk to. She is so friendly and is great with our 8 year old. We highly recommend her and will only be going back to her. read more

Stumbled across this barber shop and so glad we did. My husband got his cut from Joey and it turned out great--the cut was perfect and fit him exactly right. My husband wanted to go for a razor shave but most of the salon was giving appointments for 2/3 days later except Hair Encounter which we gladly took it for same day afternoon. We had to park little away from the shop since it's in Downtown so most of the parking lot gets full but still we could manage parking at the side street. Upon entering we were greeted by Bee ( the owner) who guided my husband towards Ray. I had fun listening to all the conversations happening around me & it almost felt like (Andy Griffith show vibe) where every local comes & discussing about the town , games etc... Overall I loved it ... my husband was very happy with the service given by Ray who took special care. Will definitely come back here again. read more

I've never liked going to the barber. I have a hard time describing what I want - or even knowing what I want. I went in a couple months ago and had my hair cut by Yvonne. She was warm and friendly, we bonded over being pet owners. She figured out what would work for me, the haircut looked great. I've gone back twice since and will continue going back to have Yvonne cut my hair. Anyone can find a cheap haircut that will get the job done. Finding a good barber that you can build a rapport with and keep going back to, that'll remember you and greet you, that can find a way to make your ever-retreating hairline look good? This place has become my "in case of an emergency" barbershop. They are open on Monday's and the traditional barbershop hours are Tuesday-Saturday, so my barber is closed. Monday's have become my Friday the last couple months, so this is where I have been getting my haircut on my day off. The owner is a very nice guy, Brentwood native, good ol' boy who has owned this shop for 50 years now. Clean shop, great work, prices are competitive, staff are nice, good conversation the last few times I have been in there. I recommend this barber without reservation. read more

Let me tell you something. THIS PLACE IS A GEM! Love my hair!! And I am soo picky. I've been to several places in the area and this is the best. Rick gave me layers and they might be the best layers I've ever had. Perfect s curls. He really knows what he's doing, is always efficient and gets me out of there in a timely manner. Kind and considerate and checks in with me during the cut. I would pay 3-4 times the amount for a cut this good in the City, (SF) where I'm from. Try this place: lots of parking, mexican food right next door plus cute area of Brentwood, and you just can't beat the price! Bring cash only, and your friends. Rave!! Woot woot! My husband needed a haircut badly, as he has had long hair, pulled pack in a 'tail' for many years. However, his hair was thinning, and the long hair was becoming a management issue, so he decided to lop it off. We walked in on a Friday afternoon, no appointment, and found all 3 chairs full and one person waiting. They were very efficient, and my husband was seen in a very reasonable amount of time. It was a little pricey for our budget, but as prices go nowadays, very reasonable. He looks and feels better, and we gave them a good tip. They accept personal checks and cash only. (Beware the ATM next door: they charge you $3. to get your own money!) read more

This man knows an old school barber cut like know other. Jack has been cutting hair for 50+ years and will give you the most precise classic barber cut, complete with straight razor shave at a price you can't beat. I am his granddaughter and a hairstylist in San Francisco and can say that this guy has taught me everything I know about men's cuts just from stopping by and watching him after school as a kid. A haircut and a shave would cost a man $60+ in SF and take twice the time Jack does. You can't get a more authentic barber shop experience than this. I share stories with my new male clients who are apprehensive of my short amount of years in the hair industry, of growing up and walking into Hair Encounter on my way home from school and watching my gramps cut hair, I watched for hours and absorbed his easy simple style of cutting and realness in conversation and his slight sarcasm... To this day, every time I walk in the door he sings me, "Hey Good lookin' what you got cooking," and there is a man in his chair who knows who I am just from stories he has told and pictures at his station. There is a hat stand in the waiting area full of "caps" from people who leave them because they look so great that they forget them when they leave. If you want the newly in style of the old school barbered hair, aka the high and tight or the "John Draper" at a steal of a price and in fraction of the time with no frills.
