I recently was looking around to find a new regular barber for my 4 boys and husband . Based on the reviews I decided to give slicks barber shop a chance . I called on Thursday afternoon and made an app for Saturday at 1240 for 1 of my sons . The shop was clean , plenty of parking , and he was very nice . My son was immediately comfortable with him (which is not the norm ) . This was by far the quickest hair cut ever . He was sitting 20 minutes . As a mom of 4 boys , that is an enormous plus. I was in need of a haircut same day and saw Slick's on Yelp and decided to give it a shot. As soon as you walk in you know Slick's is the real deal when it comes to old school barber shop and I mean that in the best way possible. The decor, the people, the conversation all just gives you that vibe. When I walked in I was immediately greeted by a woman at the desk who helped me out. I told her I didn't have an appointment but needed a cut. I would advise you call ahead to confirm availability of a barber because she told me that they were booked for the rest of the day but would see if a barber could squeeze me in. After a brief conversation with my barber, he agreed to cut my hair and I was led to a seat. My barber was Frank. He was friendly and didn't seem bothered at all that he had to work his schedule to my needs. This was where I was caught off guard, he asked a lot of clarifying questions about my desired haircut which I thought was great. A lot of barbers i've interacted with tend to just listen to me and go with what they think I said regardless of whether or not I made it clear, whereas Frank took the time to understand and make sure we were on the same page. The cut itself was high quality. He gave me a straight razor shave to clean up the sides/back of the cut. The hard part I requested was sharp and crisp. The fade was distinctive and straight. No complaints on the cut, it was just as requested. The final price of my cut was $14 but I just gave him a 20 because of the quality experience and cut. Service: 5/5 Product(cut): 5/5 I would recommend Slick's to anyone who cares about not only their haircut but also the experience of being at a barber shop. The prices are fair, the people are great, and the cuts are even better. Definitely worth a shot. read more

Slick's Barber Shop is simply amazing!! My Marine flew in last night after being granted leave to come home for the long weekend and to attend his girlfriends Senior Ball. We had a series of mishaps that made for a stressful day. After getting a last minute tux he still needed a haircut. Tux of Class referred us to Slick's. I meant to post a review right after my haircut but it's been about a week. This was my first-time visit, I had researched barbershops in my area and came across the ad for Slicks, the pictures on the site looked nostalgic and there was an old-timer barber along with a price list, it had an old-style vibe so I thought I would give it a try. I called and asked if I needed an appointment, the guy on the phone asked if there was a particular barber I wanted to see, and being my first visit I said it didn't matter. He made me an appointment and I arrived on time. My barber for the day was Caleb, a younger dude who seemed pretty confident. He asked what I wanted and I showed him a picture of past cuts, I have to say, you know how you like a cut after it's done but after a couple of days, you don't like the way it looks anymore? well, Caleb took great pride in what he was doing, he was meticulous and he explained how he would be shaving with a straight razor on the back of my neck. I will say that after a week I am still very pleased with my cut and going forward Caleb is now my main dude. I'll ask for him by name for my next haircut. I went this morning!! I the moment that all guys (barbers and costumers) looking at me,weird!! I was feeling uncomfortable. I don't know if they were surprised cuz a gay guy were there or cuz I was a new face!! I didn't make appointment but they accept walking in. I wait sitting on the wating 10 min to just heard:/ we are busy back in 30 min... The owner cut somebody hair and after his first cut, he was free but he just went outside to talk with one guy!! Another barber almost finished his cut and was another costumer there so I didn't understand why they couldn't cut my hair. Homophobia?? Walking inside this barbershop you are instantly hit with a warm feeling of hospitality.With the abundance of memorabilia and old school cars hanging from the ceiling you will stay entertained looking around the shop while you receive your cut, to say the least. At first I was a bit worried if the barber would understand what I wanted but I was completely wrong. I gave Frank, my barber, a quick run through of what I wanted, he even suggested of few options and within a minute or two I was on my way! It felt as if he was very knowledgeable and the work truly showed! Since it was my first time, Frank made sure he took his time and did not rush the cut at all. I haven't been to a barbershop since I was a child so this was pretty exciting. Everyone I encountered at Slick's was extremely helpful and friendly. I love all the decorations in the place and it definitely has that old-school barbershop vibe. Lots or laughing and conversation going on. Which is always good. Frank cut my hair and he did an excellent job. I brought in a picture of the hair style I wanted to go for, and he gave his opinion on how he could make it work on me. Then he pretty much nailed it. I loved the cut he gave me and it looked even better than what I wanted. I will definitely be returning here. Don't know what took me so long to try this place but I'm glad I did. I called before I came to ask prices. They asked me my sons age and and what kind or cut. I said 12 and a clipper cut. They said it would be $12, so I headed over. Once in the extremely cluttered quarters and my son in the chair and ready to go they said "oh by the way...it's extra for an line up". Are you kidding me?! Line up comes with the hair cut! Effingham ridiculous. So $2 they manipulate out of people for a complete, 10 minute cut. Smh. I won't be back based on the sheer fact they pulled this bull with their prices. Found this place based on other reviews on Yelp. The location is great and the people there are friendly and nice. The atmosphere is fun with it also being kid friendly. Frank cut my hair and did an amazing job on my flat-top. I was going to Sport Clips for years because of one stylist, but after he left, no one could do what he did. I finally found the best replacement. I would definitely give this place a shot. They are on the corner of the street and you can't miss the shop. Also, they don't take credit cards but cash is fine. The price for the flat top was very good. They definitely got a lifetime customer now. read more
