I've been going to Hair House for several years and ever since the salon moved to New Rochelle the prices have gone up while the hair cuts have been less than stellar -- the last few times I noticed that my haircut was uneven the day after (albeit not horrifically so but still enough to be disappointed) . I've usually been taken over a half hour after my scheduled appointment and rushed through (hence the uneven cuts). I've had better haircuts and I've had worse, hence the three stars. While the staff is friendly enough, I'm on the fence whether I'll continue as a customer as I haven't found a decent place in the area for a great cut that I don't have to spend hours upkeeping (the local stylist I had before I went to Hair House moved out of state and I'm hard pressed to find someone whose results would have people stop me in the street to ask where I get my hair done even weeks after I've been to the salon). Completely unprofessional- called in advance to describe the service I was looking for and get a quote. Scheduled an appointment based on the conversation. This is hands down the best salon I went to! I went in for highlights and layer cut but not with high expectation just because I wasn't sure if my hair was capable of looking good or looking like what I had imagined in my head. However, I was very happy with the final result. Kaitria did my highlights and she took her time with it even though she was multi tasking on another customer due to being short staffed. Then Dana the owner who had such a positive and friendly attitude did my haircut and blowout which I also loved. I have been going to hair house for almost 3 years now, dont get me wrong all the stylist are very good on what they do. They are all professionals, i had an experience with one colorist that did not meet my expectations but they went ahead and fix my color. My hair gets really brassy all the time and i ddnt know that i can only do one gloss. But when i did mines it was just because i was at the beach and it turned out to get very brassy after i did my partial highlights. I was expecting them to have some consideration because i wanted to do a second gloss. I was happy because they did the gloss, BUT THEN I WAS ABOUT TO PAY THEY JUST TOLD ME OH THIS IS FOR A SINGLE PROCESS PRICE. When i just did gloss. You guys cant even tell Me before you do my hair? I get it its business but also its a lot of money too. Not that i cant afford but i went there specifically for gloss and you'll charge me for single Process. You couldve done it to my hair then. I CANT DO ANYTHING I HAD TO PAY IT, i was shocked, surprised about this and very annoyed but i just cant say anythng to them. It's ridiculous! Dana is the best! I found her thru Yelp and I couldn't be any happier. I went to her when another salon messed up my hair. I have nice hair, not to be conceited but my former salon made my hair so dry somehow they "forgot" to rinse the highlights so it turned so blonde. I asked them to fix it. In my frustration, i did not cut my hair for maybe 18 months, i self colored my hair until i saw Hair House. Dana seem to have magic hands and Delilah did my colors. I couldn't ask for a better team. They moved to New Rochelle, a nicer classier area and a lot closer to home. Dana is so humble, friendly and she is not intimidating even though she has big time clients like Katie Couric. Let me start off by saying I worked at a few beauty salons in the past, so I'm very particular about where I choose to go. I truly am hesitant about letting anyone new touch my hair, but man am I happy I let Dana and Kay. Upon my arrival, everyone was super nice and welcoming, offering me a warm beverage and taking my coat. The ambiance is chic, sophisticated and such a breath of fresh air. I loved every decor detail. Once it was my turn, I was very upfront about my concerns and what I was looking for (i'm a brunette and didn't want to look like the late 90s highlight trend threw-up on my head.) After a brief consultation with both of them, Kay got to work on my highlights. She truly works wonders and gave me the natural looking highlights I was looking for. Once Kay was done, it was time for Dana to work her magic. Not only did she give me an amazing haircut, she styled it perfectly and got it to look so healthy and full (I have pretty thin hair and not much of it, so this was pretty great for me). I was getting frustrated from getting my hair chopped off all the time, even thou I was going to the same place but they were never consistent with the haircut even after showing them front/side/back pictures of how I wanted it, it was hit or miss. Last straw was when I waited over 2 hours specifically for the owner to cut my hair and then he just did a rush cut and passed me along to someone else to finish it off (and not a good finish to that). Now I LOVE my haircut and I got so many compliments on it after going to Hair House. The color consultation was on point and the hair cut FANTASTIC! I feel great and it's a lot easier to style it since the haircut was done right. She is lovely and she really is a great hair dresser. She listened to my concerns and was able to cut my hair the way I wanted it. I have Central American hair. It is very thick and dry. Went there a few months back and got my hair done which came out beautiful price was decent especially for the work done. So your wondering why one star right? Well to start off with when I came in there was a woman doing another girls hair who I later found out was the owner I simply got a very unwelcoming grin. And I let that brush off because I figure she's probably tired and may be having a rough day. I got my hair done by a wonderful young girl who was so sweet inside out and it made my experience shift to a better one. She then introduced me to the owner who was working on another woman's hair. And she seemed extremely friendly with her. I noticed as every customer came in after that she welcomed them with a big smile and seemed happier to see them than me. As my stylist continued to have us all converse it seemed painfully unbearable as she the owner I believe Dana is her name would only give me one word answers and I kind of felt like I was bothering her by speaking to her. Meanwhile she kept conversations with everyone else. It almost seemed like I wasn't welcome there. She made some slick comments here and there and because of how amazing my stylist was I let it go. And yes I'm going to say it, it felt like it was racism happening right before my eyes. I never felt so low. I wasn't white with the blonde hair that she seemed to be working with from the time I came in to the time I left. Honestly I would never return because I didn't feel wanted one bit! And hopefully if she or her other workers see this she can some how change her attitude for the best and realize she's not better than anyone. Dana is a curl queen. Curly hair is difficult to manage if it isn't cut/layered/shaped appropriately, especially thick & curly hair, but she's a master at it. The salon is beautiful and chic, and the prices are incredibly reasonable for the kind of supreme talent you are getting (Dana & Kay have trained with the best of them).
