I am looking for a new salon/stylist and really wanted to like this place based on reviews and my first impression, but there were just too many negative things. The chairs are horribly uncomfortable and the products stink (I had to go home and wash my hair because the smell was making me nauseous). My haircut was fine, but nothing special for the price I paid. My stylist didn't offer any styling beyond round brushing while blow drying. I won't return. read more

I wasn't able to add images to my previous review so here is what this salon considered to be acceptable. Descriptions are provided in the images. I shared these images with the owner in our initial email interaction and she ignored it. Her response to this entire situation has been simply deplorable. I will continue to review and share this experience, especially since she continues to dismiss the entire situation and is throwing in lies to in an attempt to cover up these gross mistakes. I don't care how long a salon has been open or the kind of "reputation" it has. Susan already had reviews removed off of Facebook so clients couldn't see my review and blocked me from social media. If this is how you want to be treated in the event something goes wrong, I encourage you to go here! This isn't just a bad hair cut. I was injured, my hair was fried, my cut was complete whack job/nowhere near what I asked for, and the owner's responses have been hideous. Deplorable. Despicable. All of the above. Just moved out to Shoreview and tried to get acquainted with some of the services available in my area. I was in luck that I needed a hair day, so I searched the web for a decent salon near me, and up popped Hair on Earth. In the North oaks neighborhood just across the way from Kowolski's market is a little strip mall just loaded with tons of really awesome little shops. One of which just so happens to be this cute and trendy Aveda salon by the name of hair on Earth. Parking was easy enough as I was able to locate a spot in the ample parking lot, and didn't have far to walk into the salon. I went on a super busy Saturday right before the Christmas holiday, and even with the hustle and bustle, I was greeted warmly and was offered a cup of coffee/tea. While I waited for my stylist, Sarah, I checked out the super huge selection of Aveda and Amika products as well as some of the boutique-ish kind of products like hats, scarves, wallets and I think I spotted jewelry and soap. Nice selection of stuff, but I didn't have all that much time to browse as my stylist found me almost right away. Sarah is FANTASTIC! - I went in for a color and a trim. She helped me determine the best color for me with the ideas that I had. The longest part of any color job is the foiling and while she worked, Sarah explained some of the other hair coloring services offered and educated me on what she offers and what the salon sells. Service took a little longer than expected, but my hair wasn't taking the color mix as well as we though, and Sarah made sure that I was happy with the color and the cut before I left. Sarah was a fantastic stylist, and I am a fan! I walked out paying more than I expected, but I feel it was worth it. Totally recommend this place for the services and the stylists. This salon was just okay. My hair stylist cut my curly hair dry and barely put any layers in, even though my only request was to have a lot of layers. They also have lots of signs posted asking for tips to be paid in cash, which I felt took away from the atmosphere a bit and I was not prepared with small bills so I had to give a $20 tip. read more

I drive 45 minutes to get a perm. I knew pretty quickly that the stylist wasn't rolling it right. I asked her if taking a big section of hair and rolling it like spaghetti on a fork was as effective as taking smaller sections and evenly distributing on the roller? She said Sure. Waited the 48 hours to wash and my hair was completely straight! I called, I was nice, I asked for a refund. Susan the owner called me the next day and left a message with a list of things I would have to do. Stylist then called me and said I had to make another appointment?? To check my hair?? She was booked for over a week. She looked "yep no curl" I did not want another attempt at a perm. I paid with my debit card but could not just refund my card because the 30.00 tip was on there and they weren't about to give me that back. 5 days letter I get a check minus my tip!! "Policy" I know I know! I was put out, taken advantage of and swindled!! My tip was for a service THAT DIDNT HAPPEN!! Shame on you read more

My cousin and I decided to get our hair done here a few months ago. We were both seen by the same women, and it took about 4-5 hours which is not bad for two. I paid for the price of full foils although it was a partial because pricing here is hugely reflected off the stylist. But okay not too big of deal but a little pricey for the quality. Anyways I was not thoroughly impressed during our first visit but this last Saturday we thought we would give it another go. My causing decided she wanted essentially the same thing she had gotten the first time but with a little more blonde on one side. Her hairdresser decided to try and just bleach the whole section she wanted blonde WITHOUT foils. I was a little curious as to why, being all of the time I've gone blonde with my entire head it gets foiled, and since that is how I have always seen it done and how my cousin had it done previously but both her and I thought well she is the stylists so she should know what she's doing. It turn out orange, to no surprise. She continued to use toner twice in her hair I believe and eventually decided she make it brown. It was such a failure altogether. Note that my cousin has extremely thin and resilient hair. By the end neither of us were impressed but it happens. and it took almost 4 hours!!!!! I could not believe how long we were here for her hair. Especially since we both got our hair done months ago and were our in 4 hours. It was ridiculous. The pricing came to $170! For 1 all over color and a failed streak of blonde. The toner she used multiple different time apparently cost more, (which she did not disclose). She paid $90 the previous time for basically the same thing! And she even had a lot more foils then along with the multiple color. Her hairdresser, tried to say the pricing was also because it took so long. Sorry but I have never heard that reflected in pricing here or anywhere else for that matter. When she went inside to complain about the rip off she felt she just got dealt with, she came outside crying because the stylist and receptionist was very very rude. An extra $70 can be used significantly toward bills or rent. When she disclaimed that she expected to pay $100, but not close to $200 which is a little bit of a hurt financially, they continued to lecture her and how she should rethink her decision making!!!! Regardless of her bills situation, NO EMPLOYEE has the right to treat a customer the way she was treated for about 20 minutes. All snarky comments and not even a hint of trying to make things right. Now, we are two very easy going individuals and have worked in customer service for years. We figured we would give Hair on Earth another shot and the benefit of the doubt but never again. Employees were very rude and arrogant and lacked the quality we expected. I have gotten highlight in the past and when it turned out orange I got a free invite back 1 time to fix it. She didn't so much as even get that since she was told the $170 even included discounts her stylist gave her on her hair because she said it should have been much more. MUCH MORE for hair that looked basically the same as it did when we came in. Long story short, it was a terrible experience. They did not deserve our business and benefit of the doubt second time around. I am not impressed we will never go here ever again! read more

I first visited this place a year ago because it was a short walk from where I live. I became a regular because I always get exactly the hair style I like even though I sometimes walk in not knowing what I want. The ambience is more "clean and functional" rather than "luxurious and spa-ish". The stylists are very courteous, enthusiastic about their work and look like the kind of people who love their job - always a plus if you want to trust your hair with them! Also, they always try to accommodate appointments per your schedule. (Walk ins are welcome too!) I also love the products they use because my hair definitely looks a lot shinier and feels softer after every visit. I have long hair and I usually get charged around $30 - $35 each time I visit. The price includes a wash and blow dry. I usually go to any available stylist but I loved the lady who did my hair the last time (don't remember her name now) - so I will be asking for her from now on. Yesterday was my first visit to Hair on Earth, and from the moment I walked in I was pretty impressed. I was greeted rather quickly (there were people asking questions/being checked out), so I grabbed a coffee from their complimentary water/tea/coffee bar, which was very pretty and had quality items. I waited about 5 minutes from the time I grabbed my coffee until I was taken back (which they had my appointment for 11:30 and I was helped at 11:30 on the dot). Paige was my stylist and I liked her immediately! She is very easy going and listened to exactly what I wanted when she sat me in the chair. Now, I can't speak to every stylist y'all have ever been to, and I know some just roll their eyes when you show them pictures, explain what you want without really knowing WHAT you want, etc. But Paige was a champ! She looked at my photos with me, talked about them, and asked how I wanted them translated to MY style! We then shampooed and conditioned (which smelled amazing and felt great!), then we got started. Now I had shoulder length hair in front and a stack back (a-line bob), and wanted to get a pixie cut with longer bangs. All in all I was there for about 80 minutes (which is what I expected with getting such a distinct SHORT cut). She probably "fine-tuned" my hair for the last 20 minutes, which I thoroughly appreciated, as I am VERY particular with my hair. She never ONCE seemed irritated or snarky, and always seemed interested, which is very important. They then gave me 15% off for being a new client, which I didn't expect! My total then came to the mid thirties! Which was fantastic compared to a lot of the other local salons' prices (which didn't include the style/wash/etc). I think it was the manager or the owner, but she rang me up, and was complimenting me on my hair, and just made me feel like a beautiful woman! It was SO refreshing not be treated like a number in line, or a price of a service, but an actual client! I WILL be returning time and time again, as I think I have found my new home! My 77 year old mother came here for hair color. She was unhappy with the first results, so she asked for it to be fixed. When she returned to get it fixed, not only was her second stylist dismissive toward her concerns, her "fixed" color was now orange. A third stylist said to my mom that she was lucky that she doesn't have cancer and chemotherapy that makes her hair all fall out. What an absurd, cruel thing to say to somebody! Take your business elsewhere. I used to be a customer here, and, yes, some stylists have been wonderful. However, it is really hit or miss here. If you are wondering, my mom was charged $110 for her botched color jobs and verbal abuse. read more

Avoid this place. I've been going there for over 2 years. I like the stylist who did my hair there. Tonight after I rushed from the airport to get to my appointment, I was told that I had no appointment. Look, everyone makes mistakes, but no solution was offered other than the stylist will be in next week. I asked to have the owner call me, thinking she might offer a solution. My mistake. After she said my styisIt's may be at fault, the owner responded to me by yelling and then hanging up on me. She didn't like the fact that I was upset because I only had a small window to get my hair cut and that window was closing fast. She talked to me like this is the only place in the universe to get my haircut. Avoid the psychodrama and go somewhere where long time customers aren't treated like I was treated.
