I was a little apprehensive trying this place out based on the reviews. But we are new to the area and I really need to find an affordable place that I can consistently take my child too. I always want to give someone the benefit of the doubt and hate giving poor reviews. With that being said, I don't think this is the place to take your child if you have long hair. My child has shaggy surfer hair and just needed a clean up. The lady was so nice and so pleasant but the cut just wasn't the best. He emerged with a poof ball of hair. I will say that several other people were getting hair cuts with trimmers and their trim and fades seemed great. read more

After reading the reviews, I took my boys for the first time as they were in need of haircuts ahead of the holidays. We walked in and the vibe was right off the bat warm, efficient, no nonsense and relaxed. The ladies were all professional, highly skilled and engaging. They not only provided excellent cuts for my boys but they did the work swiftly and with confidence as only veterans of their trade can do. The salon is clean, well maintained and tidy. I needed to find another hairdresser after more than 20 years.  I just had a lovely first appointment with Kim at Hair One. Spent some time reading reviews on various websites.  Was so pleased to find Hair One is about 10 minutes from my house and their rates are very reasonable.  I haven't been to that particular strip mall since the management of my favorite Chinese restaurant changed many years ago, so didn't realize this gem of a salon was there. I knew from reviews that their customers are mostly men.  Kim has a separate room at the back just for women.  I arrived a few minutes early and did not have to wait.  We had such an easy, open conversation, I immediately liked her.  I thought my first visit would be to get acquainted, then next visit I would explain what type of cut I preferred.  I wear my hair short and was thrilled, the cut is just perfect and I loved the blow-dry styling, my hair looks so soft.  She even made suggestions on how she could cut my hair to be more stylish in the summer months, I liked what I was hearing.  Kim will now be my regular hairdresser.  Highly recommend. read more

Despite having plenty of options within DC to get a good haircut, I always drive out to Hair One to have a GREAT haircut. Even though my hair has become a little shaggy due to quarantine... it's actually grown out quite well, which is a testament to their excellent work. So... I haven't had a trim in months! I usually go to high end salons like Aveda... But my stylist moved... And it hasn't been the same ever since... I have serious trust issues stylist... But I needed to get my hair taken care of so I was like YOLO (you only live once)... This place is located in a small shopping center... It looks like a barbershop on the inside instead of a hair salon, but for women they have a place in the back that's more intimate and set up like a salon. The place is very clean and tidy... Which is all that really matters to me at the end of the day... My stylist Kim was very sweet. I explained to her that what I wanted, she looked over my hair and confirmed that she was able to do what I was asking but informed me that she needed to trim my ends... They were pretty dry being that I haven't been for a trim in forever... But I already knew that would need to be done... The trim was exactly what I asked for! She didn't take a great deal off! Only what I needed... Now it's hard to find a stylist that you can trust... And I definitely trust Kim with my hair! I highly recommend this place! Great customer service. Love this place. I always go to Miss Kim but I've had my hair cut by the other stylists there and they always got me on point. I'm currently keeping a long undercut and they always cater to what I want while also voicing recommendations. I love how the stylists here are able to let go of their ego and listen to their customers requests. This place is awesome! I'm very particular about my hair, which is why I tend to stay with a stylist even if I move far enough away that it becomes inconvenient for me to go to them. However, I gave this place a try because it was close to my new home , and I didn't have time to go all the way to my usual barber. Boy am I glad I made that decision. All the stylists that work there are friendly, and it spoke volumes when I walked in that everyone getting their haircuts were talking jovially with the owners/stylists; it shows that they have a loyal customer base, and I appreciate that. I went back for my routine haircut and was not happy after I left. They double booked me AGAIN or her other client arrived early so she had another client waiting while I was getting my hair cut. Of course this means a rush job. After arriving home and straightening my hair I realized that it was so crooked again. Also, my hair looked like spikes at the bottom. The blending of the different layers were awful. Tina is very nice which is why I gave an extra star but the quality was lacking. read more

I love that place. Even though i get my hair cut once in a while, its always worth the time. I have a private barber and she has the hands of a whiz! I'm actually pretty picky about my hair,before, the barbers always cut my hair too short, and it killed me! But ever since I started getting my hair cut at hair one they do it the way I want. AMAZING!! I've been to VIP cuts and they were great but the fade was never quite as blended as if hoped for my 2 year old.. So I decided to come here and it was the best decision! I didn't get a chance to get her name but she had short light brown hair and she was VERY patient and very quick.. My son isn't a cryer but he does get uncomfortable with the sound of the blades but she was very good with him she spoke to him in a calm, soothing voice and he listened and liked her very much.. They do one style of haircut. They cut all your hair off. I went in and just said please a short trim. I like my long hair and style it so. The lady cuts everything down to basically 1/4 inch. I had my glasses off and then started feeling not right and then put my glasses on and was not happy. She asked me what I wanted and I even showed her with my fingers how little she needed to trim. I just moved into the area and wanted to find a good barber to cut my hair. I looked online and saw this one was very close to me. I went in there this past Saturday and was welcomed with a "Hello! How are you today?" Wendy cut my hair and was great with it, she talked and was very nice to speak with. She stated next time I come in and she is not cutting my hair to let them know how she cut it. She told me how to tell them next time. Very nice and very good price at $13 for a men's haircut. They dont take credit cards so it is either cash or check. This is my new barber! The store is run by her and her sisters and though they only accept cash, Kim has been super nice and even told my mother once when she forgot to bring cash to pay her back another time. We went to Hair One this Saturday to get our twins their first haircuts on Labor Day. Kim the owner was very nice to us, took us immediately and had a great way to make the first cut for both of the kids such a great experience! She had the kids sit on mine and my husbands laps during the haircut. She wrapped me and my daughter with the apron and made us more a part of the experience for the kids. She gave the kids lollipops (first time they had ever had that either) and it was the perfect way to distract them from the cuts. Their hair turned out cute and my little 20 month old babies look like a little boy and girl now. She then went as far as to NOT CHARGE us for the cuts. I couldn't believe it. We gave her a tip. We will definately go back to continue to get the kids haircuts and I will get mine cut there next time too. What a great experience in this tough Northern Virginia town lacking happy customer service in general. read more
