The place is clean. Dana was my hairstylist. First visit to this place. I reached 2 minutes late. Dana had called to enquire if I can make to it to the appointment when it was exact time. She had all the patience to listen to my needs. She asked for a reference picture and I showed her one of her earlier haircuts pictures from reviews. She gave a nice massage while washing hair. Amazing haircut and styling. She talks less but does an amazing job. She is sweet. Gives you good about what length and cut might suit. Going to visit again. Seeing that there are 2 locations and my first review was at the other that I see is now up for lease , I thought it important to let people know here as well about my interactions with Tracy. I was a customer of Tracy Doan for over 11 years. I first met her when she worked at JC Penney Salon and followed her to this location. always just had my hair foiled with 1 or 2 colors. Nothing extreme. Years later just about 11- The next two times she did my hair she never spoke to me the entire time. Just spoke on her phone while she did my hair. Extremely rude. I just thought well maybe she was having a bad day. But for that to happen twice, I don't know. Years later- covid 19 hit, I didn't go out much, only to get groceries and dr appts and take my dog to the vets as he was very ill. A year into the lockdown I made an appointment to finally get my hair foiled. BUT on that day of my appointment my dog died and I had to cancel the appointment. Wasn't able to right away as way too much was going on with my dog. So almost another year went by and asked if they wore masks and following cdc guidelines. Tracy said no masks. She could wear one if I asked but she didn't expect others in the salon to wear them. So about a month Later I texted to see if she could do my hair and she texted back that she didn't feel comfortable doing my hair anymore. GUT PUNCH! after 11years? Wow was I shocked!! read more

I've been seeing Tracy since her first shop over on NE 12th and 120th and now she has a second shop on 156th in Bellevue across from Crossroads Mall. She is an expert colorist; I have thicker dark Asian hair, and whether I want her to do blonde highlights, caramel, red, or even (my newest) fashion, color blue, she gets the shade right and the color is long lasting. I am overweight w/ a round face and she always finds a cut that is flattering for my face whether it's short or it's longer. I like that she really listens to me and if I bring her pictures of what I want, she'll give me her honest opinion and then will find some thing that suits me. Her prices are competitive with other shops and if you aren't happy, she will try to make it right if you are respectful. I recommended many friends and family and never been disappointed. I couldn't be happier with the experience I had yesterday at Hair Studio 18!! It had been awhile since I've done anything new to my hair, so on a whim I purchased a Groupon deal for a cut, partial foil, and deep conditioning treatment and decided to try this place out! It turns out I made a really good choice! Tracy helped me decide what shade of blonde to add, and what length to cut off, and happily answered any and all questions I had. She was very professional, and also very fun to be around. She made me feel right at home in the salon and I really enjoyed my time with her. Not only was she absolutely delightful, but she did amazing job on my hair! I love it so much and will definitely be coming back to her next time I need anything done to my hair :) read more

I got a groupon for this place and wanted to get waxing services. The prices are not listed on their website at all. I called and left a message...no callback. I called again and a lady said she can schedule a session with the owner but she "doesn't know HER prices", and gave me her own prices for waxing. I asked why I couldn't just book it with her and she said she was all booked up. Since her prices sound reasonable, I went ahead and booked my session thinking the owner's prices would be pretty close. On the day of the appointment I couldn't find my glasses so I called them and it was the owner that picked up. I told her I could still make it but would be late, if that'd be ok. She said ok to the time I estimated I could arrive. The salon was hard to find but I did get there. When I walked in two ladies working on their clients just raised their heads, I had to greet them myself. It looked more like a home studio set up than a professional salon...even on the dirty side. I announced that I have a waxing appointment. The taller lady literally said to me "UGH! " as her jaws LITERALLY dropped. I wondered if I did something wrong to offend her. She looked at the owner and did a motion that looked like I was in trouble and the owner could deal with me. The owner just said "that's fine" and told her client she'd be back. We went to the waxing room which looked really dingy. The wax was already in the heater ready to go. I wondered if it had been dipped in for previous clients already. An old pink-colored towel was on the waxing station table. I remained very courteous and smiley but the owner never smiled. When I asked how much it would be she said eyebrows were $15 and half legs were $60. $60...?!!!!!? Um, maybe at an upscale salon! I immediately told her that the lady on the phone said it would be $67 altogether if she were the one doing it. The owner said her prices are different, hesitated for a moment, then said she could do it for $67 (meaning I'd have to pay 7 dollars since my groupon was $30 for $60.) Besides not smiling and using no courtesy words at all, she was pretty chatty yet not overly chatty. But her waxing skills were questionable. She kept going over the same areas and the half legs took at least 15 minutes. She did a fine job on the eyebrows but did trim a significant amount off, which I did not want. When we were done I just went to the counter to pay her, even tipping her $3 extra. She did not thank me or make eye contact. Again, I had to say thank you, and smile. I was happy it was done but not happy that I could have done waxing at a much prettier salon with pleasant workers. If you have a fancy job in Bellevue YET don't mind going to a dingy place to get hair and body services, this is your place to go!! Otherwise, this place is for old people who have low standards for ambience and diplomacy. read more

I went there for a haircut and when I asked them for suggestions the hairdresser said she would not do that. In addition to that when I asked the hairdresser to cut a little more she said that would count as two haircuts. Please avoid this place at all costs and do not buy their groupon. read more

I love Tracy!! She is the light at the end of the tunnel. First of first, she is very personable, never pushy and will give you honest advice. She is the only hairstylist that said she doesn't need to bleach my hair for a hair color. I took a deep sigh of relief and let her do her magic. Her hair cuts and color knowledge blew me away. Tracy is nice but really bad at customer service to meet customer liking. I usually don't write bad reviews but this was a waste of my money and time. She did highlights, looked like a blob on the back of my head, showed on top of head, which was ok but she didn't color all my grey hair and was showing, I went back to get it fixed, unwilling to really work with me, said she wasn't going to take care of the grey hair, she pointed fingers that it was my fault, never have seen that in my life. I will never go back! so careful if doing highlights. read more

I love Tracy, manager. Tracy has been cutting and coloring my hair for 4-5 years now and she always does a great job. Such a friendly, easy going group of stylists. Love this place. I have read some of the negative reviews and I think you have to read between the lines...Tracy has bent over backwards for clients who call and cancel at the last minute over and over, show up really late, etc. and she still continues to see them because she is so sweet. Also, as far as price disputes...each stylist is self employed and independent so their prices will vary. This is a great salon, clean and attractive, nice & friendly. I have been going to "Hair Studio 18" for about 15 years, and coming to Tracy now for the past 7 years. I have always been treated like a Queen by her! She has absolutely respected every single thing I have ever asked her to do to my hair. I am not an "easy" client as I am always changing my mind what I want, but Tracy has ALWAYS made me feel so beautiful every single time I have left her salon!! Lady was very passively rude and kept bargaining with me about the price of the haircut the entire time. She was also very unprofessional and took a long time and kept unwinding and redoing the rollers because she kept messing up. In the end my hair looked nothing like the photo I showed her and it was frizzy and damaged and I will probably go and get what she did undone somewhere else. The atmosphere is very friendly and relaxed. I had a wonderful time when I went, and Tracy did an excellent job on coloring my hair! It didn't turn out quite as I expected (it was supposed to be a balayage ombre), but I'd never dyed my hair before and my hair apparently takes color really well. Well, I called to schedule an appointment for a Hair cut; Lady picked and asked immediately to not to buy the Groupon at all and she will recognize the price. She had assumed that I saw them on Groupon and called them. Since I was desperate for an appointment, I was calling around. She gave me an appointment right away for the same hour (I was happy) but when I went there she did not want to recognize the Groupon price and charge me more!!! They should be honest on Groupon if they want to charge customers more. I would never go back to them again, they have no sense of customer service and do not recognize Groupon prices. If I could give 0 stars I would. I felt bad leaving an updated review, but my last visit was the final straw. The only time I got a nice highlight was the first time which is what my prior review is based on. I've been going to Tracy for over a year and my last visit was the final straw. Her customer service skills are atrocious. She has zero tact. Case in point. "I hate when my customers negotiate with me" after I tried to ask her to honor the price we agreed on prior. This is coming from a woman whose husband upgraded her first engagement ring ($20,000) to a second one for $45,000. I understand now why she so rarely had customers and why she was so surprised that her phone was ringing, "usually my phone is silent for days". She doesn't feel like she needs to be nice to her customers. My last visit was the final straw, when I politely suggested to her that she give me a time 15 min before she actually wants me to come in she told me to shut up...twice. She underestimated the time it would take to get my hair done and spent the last hour complaining about my hair and how hard it was to style. I have medium thickness slightly wavy hair. Nothing out of the ordinary. The few dollars I saved and the proximity of her salon (dirty and outdated) is not worth having bad karma splashed onto me. She would always have a tense negative vibe and that does not make for an enjoyable salon experience at all. Apparently she worked at a salon on Mercer Island and she was either let go or left under less than favorable circumstances. No surprise now that I've come to know her. No surprise why she has to do Groupon all the time since most people don't stick around due to her unpleasant personality. Good riddance. Hair Studio 18 is such an amazing place! I have horror stores of past salons ruining my hair over and over again. For a while I never thought there was hope in getting my hair to look exactly how I wanted. The biggest issue was that I felt there wasn't a single hairstylist that listened or knew how to achieve what I asked for. When I finally met my hairstylist,Tracy, I followed her here to Hair Studio 18 and after being with her for over 5 years there is no one better! And trust me I have done as much trial and error as a girl can. Tracy is so professional and really knows what she is doing. Whenever I want I certain hair color or a certain cut, Tracy knows exactly what she needs to do to achieve what I am going for. The best part is she is always looking out for the health of my hair, and does everything to make sure I love my look! I know finding a new place can be scary trust me I have been there lots in the past, but you definitely won't regret coming here. Wether you had issues in the past or are just looking for a place to go this is it. The ladies there are so friendly and welcoming, and the place is very inviting. Even if you have no idea what you want but you want to change your look, these ladies have such great advice and really do care about you and your hair. My girlfriend has been attempting to make an appointment for 6 months to use her Groupon by calling and leaving voicemails with no one calling her back once. She has even gone in to see them in person in which they weren't open (even though the schedule online said they should be). This is ridiculous and the Groupon is expired now. Had a living social from Christmas that I needed to use so I scheduled an appointment on Valentine's Day to get my hair cut and a partial foil. Scheduled my appointment with Tracy because she had tons of great reviews. When I got there I had to wait for a little bit. Once the appointment before me finished, Tracy was extremely apologetic that she made me wait and addressed me by name which I thought was very nice, considering I had never been in before. Tracy helped me pick an amazing hair color and was quick to do my foil. I asked her how much it would cost to have her put a few curls in my hair because I was going on a Valentine's Day date that night. She told me she felt absolutely awful about making me wait and offered to do it for free!! Such a nice thing to do especially considering I had already told her I would be paying with a living social coupon. Overall, great experience.
