Hair Suite is a clean, spacious salon, and parking is free and ample. They are accommodating of walk-ins and are friendly. I have given them two stars for that. I am a working mom of twins; this factors weighs into everything I do. This also means that I have gone through a very serious pregnancy and, in my case, surgery, and have been working to restore the health and length of my hair since then. Getting my hair done involves taking time off and making room in my budget. I had a few hours off on a Monday and my usual salon was booked. I decided to try this place based on nice pictures and yelp reviews. I called and asked if I could come in for a cut and color. It was 2 o'clock, and I told them I needed to be out of the place by five. I wish they had simply told me that wasn't enough time. I came in and showed them a picture of what I wanted. The picture was of a balayage. The owner told me a balayage would be too damaging, and suggested highlights. I agreed. I said we could keep the color the same as what I showed her in the picture, but do highlights. I also asked for a trim. She started cutting my hair. I showed her some of my hair with split ends in the front, including a few strands that had been toned before. She didn't touch them. In fact, she said, "it looks like somebody has cut your hair already." My hair hasn't been cut in months. She put foils in my hair, set me under the dryer, then washed it out. At 5 o'clock, I had multiple tones of orange hair, singed, far more damage than I could have ever imagined. I tried to tell the employees that this wasn't what I asked for at all. They immediately got defensive and I felt cornered. They insisted that my hair looked beautiful, and that when I agreed to highlights. I agreed to this outcome. I was also supposed to receive an OlaPlex treatment on my hair, but they said since I was in a rush, what was done was done and would be all that I could receive, unless I could stay there longer. I had called this place and specifically told them I could not stay there later than 5 o'clock. A few minutes after five, I paid them the agreed amount, tipped out of obligation, and ran out of the place in tears. I'll be taking a second day off to have this mess corrected at my usual salon. Every strand on my head is damaged. My hair is a weird mix of gold and orange that I never asked for. The employees talked over me, blamed me, and got incredibly defensive when I tried to complain, so now I am $100 out, with a botched hairstyle. I'm an attorney, I work with attorneys. I also see multiple medical providers and teachers a day to discuss my child's development and treatment plans. Look at the person in the pictures, would you take her seriously for anything? A total disaster and a waste of a day, and zero remorse shown by the employees. I would never, ever let them touch my hair again. read more

This place is clean and Claudia does a good job cutting my hair. I've been coming here on and off for the past 2 years overall pretty satisfied. She always does a shampoo in the beginning and knows how to cut according to the style you want. You just need to let her know and her english might be limited so you got to try hard. My son and I have been coming to have Claudia cut our hair for years. Even though she primarily does women's hair, I'm a man and she's been the only person who can manage my receeding hair line in a way that looks halfway decent. Everywhere else I go I end up not being happy with the result. Her pricing is very reasonable, and she always does a fantastic job. The location is a bit hard to find. If you go to the parking lot and follow the signs that Claudia has placed directing customers you will find it easily though. She does my 3 year old son's hair really well also. I'll have her do my other sons hair when he is old enough. I've followed Claudia to her last 4 locations, and she owns this one now. Very satisfied customer. Environment: very clean and nice facilities. The location is towards the back of the building. When I pulled into the parking lot, I noticed signs on the lot pointing the way. The owners husband, Mr. Kwon was cleaning the whole time that I was there. Service: friendly and prompt. I got my hair shampoo within 5 minutes. I had a nice time chatting with Mr. Kwon about good Brazilian BBQ. Over all, I am happy with the haircut. Price: good value. Given prices are going up on everything, I am satisfied with the price I paid. Summary: good experience over all. This business is by appointment only. No walk-ins. Update on 9/7/2023: Refer to 2nd photo. Only after a month, hair looks like this. Magic and keratin clearly did not work whatsoever. I never tied my hair before this photo and did nothing differently whatsoever. In fact, I added my own keratin to my hair and still, my hair looks like this. Basically- the condition of my hair has gone back to exactly what it was before the treatment- frizzy, dry, poofy, and wavy. Spoke with Claudia the owner who said she was clueless as to why this happened. She acknowledged her mistake and said she could "try" to fix it but I did not even bother. How can I trust her? This adventure started at an Asian supermarket where I couldn't stop looking at a woman's hair. I finally asked her where she got her hair done, and in a heavy accent she sent me here. What have I done. I didn't intend to get a fobby hairstyle. I never woke up and said, "I want to look like an Asian Bon Jovi." I just said to myself, "You have an interview next week, time to get a professional to take over your self-butchery." So I finally found this place in the front of the building by the Chevy Chase bank. Not a terribly busy block, so the lot was clear. Claudia's hair was bangin'. I hope my hair looks like that in 20 years. She seemed to be the only one vaguely able to communicate in English, though the other stylists were friendly enough to smile and nod when they saw me looking. There was some tiger mom hovering going on; Claudia seemed to have the final word on each customer's 'do. And I saw a woman walk out with the hairstyle I walked in with, so I felt at ease. Regular customers get some special treatment: with her cell written on the back of a business card, she admits that frequent fliers can schedule later appointments than walk-ins. My appointment started later than planned, so she set me up with a complimentary conditioning treatment while I waited. Six cutting stations, two chairs at the sink, two drying chairs in the corner. $30 pre-tip for a haircut. The first few weeks my bedhead looked borderline mullet. After a month it looks more normal and my fringe grew out long enough for me to adjust a fix to my liking. Not sure I'd come back without a fluent translator, or contacts in to point at pictures when I'm able to see it going wrong. read more

She started with motioning to cut 2 inches of my hair, asking if I wanted that much, and I said yes, thinking she was asking how much overall I wanted cut. She cut it flat right there and then shampooed my hair. From there, I have no idea why, but she cut 3-4 more inches off. I'm not exaggerating. I told her at least 3 times that I'm trying to grow it out (once while shampooing, and then twice more as I watched her snip) because I have a wedding the beginning of next year. I honestly don't think she heard me. After 90% of what I said, she would say "mhmm" before I finished talking. That said, I have no idea how she could think my agreeing to cut 2 inches meant I'd be ok with chopping the rest off. There was definitely miscommunication here. I did not realize her first question was to cut for a baseline (maybe? I've never had that) and that she'd cut way more afterwards. I now have shoulder length hair when it was basically at my waist. I wanted a trim and to keep a buffer for my wedding so I'd have options. I have never been so unhappy after a cut. I normally don't care about the length of my haircuts, but this time I did and I told her over and over. I even told her a goat chewed my hair and the usual "mhmm". I should have known better when she had such a fast opening on the same day. There was no one else in there at all. I paid $50 for it. read more

I've going to Ms. Claudia Kwon for over 10 years, and I can honestly say that I've never had a bad haircut. I've gone curly, wavy, straight, short cut, bangs, trendy hipster, and each cut has been a success! There was only one time that I was a little worried that my hair came out too orange-y, but she said that after I wash it, and if the color is not to my liking, she offered to recolor it. She makes an effort to use hair products that are healthier for hair not all chemical! I've moved out of state, but I will still consider her as my main hair stylist, and I make an appointment every time I'm back in town. read more

Distasteful experience. In less than a week, my curls became flat. I asked the owner to redo my perm. She made unwarranted excuses claiming it was due to my sickness and medication. I was not sick and wasn't taking medication. She continued to make erroneous excuses and blame me for why the curls didn't hold up. The owner was very rude and dragged her feet to re-do my perm saying she was "too busy" when there were only two customers when I first arrived and the only customer thereafter. She even had the audacity to ask me to pay for the perm medicine. The owner overcharged me for last week's perm and claimed I paid a certain amount when I paid more than what she usually charged me. I told her I paid less money last time (perm and cut) than last week (perm only). She denied it even though I remember how much I paid and tipped the last two times I was there. It's fine if she raises the price due to overhead and medicine costs. Own it but don't continue to make excuses, such as "I give free ("service") hair cuts with perms." This comment doesn't make sense. And own it if you want to give discounts to your friends, church members, and people you like. Just don't be rude or dismissing to non-Koreans and Koreans who can't speak Korean well. Your snide comments in Korean are unwelcoming. If you want to come to her salon for a perm, make sure you ask to get a free haircut. Very disappointing. read more

This salon has been my go to place since I moved to fairfax ~~ Claudia is the nicest lady and listens to what you want . The salon is cute, just a couple chairs , she does what she can to accommodate walk ins as well as taking appointments . I've come for both a haircut as well as a couple colorings. I have pretty grey resistant hairs in the front of my head that she takes care of. Prices are more than reasonable for the area. For the colorings I have had done I've been quoted $300-400 at other salons and have had it done here for half the price and better results ! Don't waste your time with overly fancy salons when you can come to a homey, personal, family run salon. read more

Claudia has been cutting my hair for over a decade now, and even though I no longer live in the area, I hold off on all hair appointments to see her when I know I'm going to be in town visiting family. I've worn my hair in layers, pixie, angled bob, asymmetrical bob, and long bob over the years, and no matter where I live and who cuts typically my hair, Claudia ALWAYS makes it look better! She cuts hair based on its texture and natural fall - she knows what to expect from all kinds of hair types, whether it's better to cut it wet or dry, etc. My husband has thick, curly hair, and he DREADS haircuts because they always seem to mess something up. He was apprehensive about Claudia cutting it, but since we married 3 years ago, he asks if we can stop by her salon every time we're in town. I watched her cut his hair this last time, and she explained exactly why he wasnt getting the results he wanted and what he should tell his usual barbers/stylists to get what he's after. You'd think all this amazing talent and work would come with a huge price tag, but you'd be wrong. Claudia's services are very reasonably and competitively priced. She believes in providing her clients with solutions to their hair problems and has a genuinely kind heart. She multi-lingual, though her English is a bit limited. I have been going to hair suite for the last decade. Claudia is very skilled in her craft and she consistently impresses me. She is well versed in a wide range of styles. In my younger days I have gotten perm like K drama actors and she did it perfect. I have done longer hair and she trimmed it very well too. Recently for convenience and more of a professional presentation, I have been getting a standard fade cut. She doesn't just use clippers she uses scissors on top even for a quick guy's hair cut to make sure hair is cut according to your head shape. Her new shop is very spacious and clean. You do get free shampoo at the beginning of the cut. Only downside is that her appointments can be delayed due to other customers arriving late, etc. at times. But for the price and quality, that is a very minor hassle. I recommend this place to any guys looking to get more than just a barbershop clipper job! read more
