I only ever do simple cuts, nothing fancy. My haircut, done by Anderson (a level 3 stylist), is objectively good. The skill was there. But it's definitely shorter than I wanted it. Went in for a lob, came out with an asymmetrical bob...Honestly I was panicking while he was drying it because it was starting to look like Lord Farquaad from Shrek. I asked if he could style it like in the reference pictures I showed (simple waves, to reduce Farquaad-ness). He tried to do it with the brush/dryer, which obviously wasn't working, and didn't want to use a flatiron. So I just suffered through scalding heat on my scalp and hair pulling. I got told I don't have curly hair. I got told I don't have frizzy hair. I, in fact, have both of those. Some other minor things: 1. When I got home I had some hair that was noticeably longer than the rest, like it never got cut. So...I had to do it. Just a few strands, but normally stylists check for that when your hair is dry. 2. I almost never use heat on my hair, so I asked for recs and mentioned a specific brand doesn't work for me. He immediately said he loves that brand. I said yeah...but it doesn't work for me. Anything else? "Any salon brand." Cool. Not helpful. 3. Asked for something at the end to tame the pieces that were sticking out (again, I have frizzy hair). He looked...confused? Smoothing as a last step has been standard at every other place I've been to. There is nothing in the whole salon like that? Also, my introvert-self just wants to go somewhere where I don't have to be engaged in conversation the whole time. Anyway. Won't go back, my hunt continues.

Not just any cut (I've been trimming my freakishly long hair for years), I saw Monique Samuels on RHOP with a cute bob and decided that was the hair for me. With newfound conviction that I was a professional hair dresser, I lopped off 6 inches. What? Yes. Confidence. When I found that it was not to my liking, instead of going to an actual professional, I went back in to give myself layers and BANGS. What is wrong with me? Anywho, fast forward a year, my hair had grown out but was long in places it shouldn't be long and short in places I didn't want it to be short. Upon recommendations, I made an appointment with Hanna. 1.) she's worth every penny. My hair is deceptively thick and needs a high quality (no Supercuts here) hairdresser to strategically tame it and also make it manageable for me. From the moment I walked in, I felt like I had stepped into a peaceful retreat. The salon's serene, self-care-focused atmosphere is something truly special--nothing like the hustle and bustle of a typical salon. My highlights from a different salon were previously brassy and harsh, but Stephanie worked her magic to transform them into a cool, classy look that I'm absolutely in love with. One of the standout touches was the shampoo experience: lavender-infused eye masks and a weighted blanket made it feel more like a spa than a salon. The relaxing vibe continued with unique touches like being able to color or paint rocks while my hair processed--such a fun and grounding way to pass the time. And he did! Jobi was so friendly online and I booked with him via Instagram. He was very polite and professional to add to that! The process is that you inform him of your needs/wants/wishes for your hair, and he provides consultations based into he photos you send him. Then you work out an appointment with him, pay deposit, then you're on your way to an appointment! When I got there, we got to doing my hair immediately and not wasting time. The quality of the products are great and Jobi (and Jonah) were great. The space is clean, spacious, and very refreshing. Lots of parking outside the building as well and bathroom inside the studio.
