Great little sushi spot in a place where you'd never expect to find one...Elk River, MN! They also have a full bar and a decent assortment of Sake. Ask for the "dinosaur egg" and be sure to grab an order of beef fried rice with yum-yum sauce to bring home for later! Rolls are fresh and above average for the area. They won't win any awards, however, the quality and presentation exceeded my expectations. Where this place really excels is in it's service and pricing. Both are AWESOME. Very friendly, great attentiveness, all for a great bargain...especially their lunch specials! The only reason this is not a 5-star review is because of the atmosphere...a touch too "institutional" feeling, a little more intimacy and better quality finishes would make this place 5 stars hands down. The sushi rolls are ground up raw meat that had the consistency of raw fish baby food. The chicken noodle dish had absolutely no flavor whatsoever. We did not bother to take home the leftovers. Do not waste your money here. read more

Prices are just to high for elk river. You can go to a legit sushi bar for the same prices, by legit I mean better quality food and the same price. We went and our tab was 120.00 with oysters sashimi and nigiri and drinks. If I'm going to spend 120.00 for lunch or dinner I would rather do it out of elk river. It's not appetizing eating next to people in dirty sweat pants and shoes that small like a dumpster. My 1 star rating is reflecting the prices and that's it. Also the tuna is artificially colored. It's not naturally that color. Real tuna will be a deep red almost burgundy, and a fattier piece will be a bit on the lighter side but still deep. We have been to Hajime several times, and each time has been delicious. My husband enjoys trying the huge selection of sushi, and I stick to my chicken fried rice (with the AMAZING sauce... seriously, I could probably bathe in it). The fried rice serving portion is definitely enough for two meals, which means I get to enjoy it again for lunch the next day. The service has always been quick and polite. On one of our visits, I ordered a "girly" drink and they were out of one of the ingredients. The server suggested a different one, which was also tasty. But, (here's the awesome part) due to them being out of the one I originally ordered, the waitress brought over a complimentary salad for us, which was fantastic customer service! I've introduced multiple other people to Hajime because of our positive experiences here. read more

Without a doubt, this is the best kept secret in elk river or even northern suburbs. Delicious and reasonably priced. I went for lunch and for $9 got alot of food! I did pay the up charge for fried rice but it was worth it you will not be disappointed. I don't understand why this place doesn't have a line out the door. Sushi in Elk River? Say it ain't so. It can't be that good, right? WRONG. This place is incredible. Good selection Japanese beer on tap, quite a variety of sake, and a very well rounded menu. There are plenty of cooked sushi options, and other hot meals besides sushi, so it's still a great place to bring someone who isn't into raw sushi. I happen to love sushi, and these guys do not disappoint. The ingredients are incredibly fresh. The flavors work together wonderfully. Beautiful and creative plating/presentation. I love to watch the chefs work their sushi magic. You can really see the skill and passion they possess come alive onto the plate. The service is always spot on. Rambo has been our waiter on several occasions, and he really stands out. You can tell that this is more than a job to him. Always enthusiastic, always a smile on his face. Love that a sushi place opened close by :) Their rolls are great, I love the sweet potato tempura roll. Their hibachi plates are really good too- the fried rice is some of the best I've ever had, with a little sweet slightly caramelized onion flavor. Within walking distance of the house, way dangerous! Seaweed salad or the house salad with ginger dressing never disappoint. Sitting at the sushi bar is my preference to see all the rolls being assembled. Chicken fried rice is a guilty pleasure. Every roll I've tried has been tasty and presentation are always unique and fun. Lunch specials are a good deal and very filling. I love this place! I've tried everything on the chefs special rolls menu. I've tried the hibachi, some regular rolls, fried rice, etc. Such amazingness! The staff is really friendly and so are the sushi chefs! Kyle is my favorite! Alice and Rambo are great at making you feel right at home! Go there, you won't be disappointed. My third visit to this restaurant and once again not disappointed. Not in the very least. For the food, service and curtesy is the best in the area. Had the sashimi appetizer to start. The fish had the perfect color, texture, freshness and taste to satisfy even the most novice of sashimi / sushi enthusiasts of which I am not. I have had the opportunity to have had sushi in many fine establishments including over a dozen times in Japanese locals such as Nagoya, Koby and Utsunomiya. Afterwards the sashimi I ordered the shrimp tempura entree. This is where I made my mistake. I had intended to order a shrimp vegetable tempura but inadvertently ordered the shrimp tempura. When my dish arrived I noticed that there in front of me was the most appetizing dish of lightly breaded shrimp I have ever seen, but alas no veggies. I immediately realized my mistake and told my server Micky so. She was very understanding and upon noticing my disappointment stated that they would prepare an order of tempura vegetables to accompany the shrimp order. Her supervisor Alice approached my table and reiterated the same. What a most pleasant surprise. To have a wonderfully well cooked dinner, the freshest of ingredients and outstanding service makes my evening. We were seat d immediately and ordered for our children right away. 10 minutes later the waiter returned and asked for our adult orders and then asked a question about the kids order which still hadn't been put in.
