So, let's take a deep dive into this home buyer experience. And create ratings based on certain aspects of the company. I'd give 5 stars to the willingness to accept that mistake were made in this process as well as the willingness to do whatever it took (within reason) to get things fixed and/or completed. Mark the manager of the warranty department did his diligence to insure that things were finally completed in our home. Broken promises from the sales team. We were promised several things to sweeten the deal of our home and to persuade us to chose this home. Those promises were not honored and/or acknowledged. This started our relationship off on shaky grounds. Turnover of the employees. We went through several different folks that were assigned to our home to get things right. The total process of getting our punch list completed took nearly 8 months. We went though I believe 6 people assisting us before completion. The continuation of turnover and lack of trade availability created a very long period of time in which we were waiting for things to get completed. Overall quality and value of the home. This is a beautiful home. The finishing, material choice, design, and layout of this home are wonderful. Overall, I give Hakes Brothers a 4 star review. While the experience at self did not live up to our standards, at the end of the day we finally have a home that we are happy to call our own due to the willingness of Mark and his team to get our punch list items completed. The view We have from our lot is amazing as well. The home itself is great and in the end, that's all we could have hoped for in the long run. I think a lot of the issues that arised in this neighborhood have been noted and I hope that this is a very large learning opportunity for Hakes to improve upon the buying/selling experience. read more

Terrible experience this go around. Quint and Tim were great in the beginning but then nowhere to be found. Kept pushing the date out because their builders mysteriously lost their workers when ICE was around. I then had my agent terminate the contract which we signed but they have not signed it and return it to us. My agent was told "my Director of sales has approved it but now we're just waiting on the new division president. What they're doing is waiting to do the termination next week just for sales numbers." All this to manipulate information to make it appear more favorable. Polishing a turd. read more

Hi everybody! Just want to say do not buy a home from hakes brothers! they are not a good builde. I payed extra money to get. Gas line instaled in the back yard they installed the gas line and closed it with a cap, bud no shot of switch. And the water faucets are lose pvc pipes not connected to anything, the stucco on wall is only a 1/2 inch thick, my microwave stoped working! and I had repair company come and check it out and was told it was a countertop microwave instead of a build inn I am having a hard time to replace it, not available anymore in the restroom by the sink the tile is separating from the wall. do not Trust them and if you call them they will not help you read more

The quality of the homes and customer service could improve. We filed several claims to have issues addressed and not everything was addressed. It's been more than 4 months, and not everything was taken care of. We had to reach out several times to have things done. We just gave up at the end since the issues were minor. However, we want to make sure others were aware, especially for first time home buyers, to avoid having any issues. I bought a $350,000 about three months ago and the roof already leaked from the not so often rain we get here in El Paso. I reached out to the supervisors and they told me it would be taken care of ASAP. My phone calls have gone ignored as well as my texts messages when I inquirer about the time the contractors are to show up. Here I am a week later waiting with more rainstorms and leaks. Not the type of problem I should be experiencing with a brand new home! All this BS they feed you about their warranties are not believable. I am very upset as I have also had to take time off from work in order to deal with this mess. We Bought a Hakes house in 2022. When I went to hang our TV, it was discovered that there was a stud missing in a bearing wall. I made contact with Hakes and their response was that the house passed a framing inspection so it is not their problem.The stud may have been taken out after the inspection. I borrowed a stud finder from the superintendent at the time and when the stud could not be found, I opened the wall up and discovered the stud missing. The superintendent when I told him, he just walked away. We have the house listed for sale. I'm required by law to disclose the stud missing. The next buyer will most likely try to hang a TV in the same location and I will end up getting sued. They, Hakes, need to take responsibility for the shady work. Like now. read more

Closed on home March 10, 2025. Have been working through warranty portal and email to attempt to resolve a problem with the countertops to no avail. There is something wrong with the "quartz" finish, if it is actually quartz, causing it to stain when anything is set down on it, even if immediately wiped off. In addition there are horrible buffs/swirls and blemishes on the countertops that are not normal for quartz. Hakes' attempt at resolution was to have countertop company come out and clean the counters, which did nothing as the problem is in the finish. They then suggested sealing it which I have a problem with as 1. quartz does not need to be sealed 2. even if it were sealed, all the blemishes/swirls/stains would then also be sealed in 3. sealing would have to be done on an ongoing basis as the island is the biggest problem and we cook and use that daily. We have had warranty team out and then some additional construction team to no avail. Last meeting was an utter waste of time as the Hakes rep wouldn't even look at the problems, even after being pointed out by other Hakes employees. As we have had to have all the cabinet doors and drawers replaced (still waiting on those) because the finish/clearcoat was not done correctly, there is obvious history of poor craftmanship and materials used in build process. We have asked Hakes to either refund $5390 we paid for "upgraded quartz" in order for us to have countertops replaced or to have Hakes replace them. read more

I'd give a negative rating to Hakes Brothers if I could. I purchased a Hakes Brothers house in Rio Rancho NM this year. It's been a nightmare. Shoddy construction, not graded properly in back causes flooding soaking foundation of house. Pretty...yes. Don't be fooled. One year warranty is a joke. Charged for blinds not installed over $2500. Having trouble getting that back. Hot water problems, plumbing clogged throughout so it backs up in all drains. Builders poured grout water down all of the drains. If I could leave a 2.5 rating I would. I'll start off with the positives, because I think that they have the big issues well taken care of. First of all, the floorplan design is VERY well thought out. You can tell the subtle differences between floorplans of houses made a decade or two ago compared to these designs. They make VERY efficient use of space in areas where it matters, and the placement of things makes it feel bigger than it is. Another positive is the insulation. I am used to houses that skimp out on insulation built in the mid-2000s; Hakes does not skimp out on insulation. The house stays cold during hot weather, and stays warm during cold weather. I am also very pleased with the design process when choosing colors/cabinetry/tiling etc. Mrs. Hakes is awesome to work with, and the end result was a very pretty design. Now onto the negatives. Hakes will pressure you into closing, even when there are a ton of little things that they have promised to fix. They will make you sign for them, and then when you come back they will still be unresolved. Next, you have to basically micromanage them and cause enough ripples until the issues are actually resolved, which is the BIGGEST issue I have had. I understand that it is initially up to me to point out issues, but it should NOT fall on me to babysit and micromanage a company until the issues are resolved, that is what they are paid to do. It should be a one and done process. I know the review is a 2 star review, but honestly Hakes is VERY close to a 5 star review, it is just incredibly frustrating dealing with the bureaucracy of the chain of command to get all the little issues resolved, and takes up time (which is money) to get them resolved. Other than that, these homes are very well designed and completed in a timely manner. read more

Buying a home is one of the most important decisions for a family as a place to live or an investment. However, you shouldn't have to do a complete renovation after 11 or 12 years. This is what you will experience at Hakes Brothers Homes. And be careful, they also build under other company names as well. I have recently located over $20,000 worth of damage and crappy construction work. And yes I got all this while doing a simple thing, like painting rooms. Improperly drilled and installed doors, wasted space by closing off kitchen cabinets, plumbing fixtures improperly installed, electrical problems, roof problems, concrete, and stucco too. Turned the dream of home ownership into a nightmare. From day 1 of moving in, it's been issue after issue. Now the house is barely 2 yrs old and I've already had to have the water heater and heater repaired and now the tiles are coming up off the floor. Fast forward to today at 2 yrs and 3 months, just had the main waterline break and also found mold in the walls. I was told "sorry, your warranty expired". We went with Hakes Brothers because the model home was nice and the floor plan was what we wanted. But boy did we make a mistake. Poor quality homes and very poor workmanship throughout the house. Cracked tiles, sheetrock mud is poorly done, trimming around the doors is cut too short. Everywhere I look there are imperfections throughout the house. Not one room will in the house is good. That being said the foundation didn't even start until June and there was a whole lot of saying it will still be ready mid September. Until all of a sudden it was not gonna be ready until maybe November maybe not. Oh but they had another house that came back on the market that had the exact same specs and floorplan. First, Quint is a great salesman, don't believe half of what he says. Cosmetically I have a great looking home. But look beyond the first blush, the second bath tub faucet has a quarter inch gap between tile wall and base, i.e. a mold factory behind the wall waiting to happen. The grout throughout the home was never sealed, the garage never painted, no garage door opener and the wiring is too short when you hire a contractor. The "gourmet" kitchen is a joke, the built in microwave looks great, but functionally is a $199 Target model. The specs say I have a Convection built in oven...I do not. Hardened paint tread in every carpeted bedroom...on and on... what a mistake. read more

All the negative reviews already posted are accurate; this isn't sour grapes over some minor thing. Believe us when we tell you that you wont be happy. Before 2018, Hakes had a good reputation, and it may have been justified. Then the real estate market took off; compounded by COVID and competition for sub-contractors, they couldn't keep up. Construction supervisors are often overseeing the building of 20+ homes at a time. Hakes was unable to manage the staffing & supplier issues, but they kept selling. One can only assume that they're trying to squeeze out every penny they can before the market crashes, with no interest in customer satisfaction. They'll talk a good game, but they're empty words. The floor plans are generally good, although there's a real shortage of storage space. But the materials used are relatively poor quality, and most of the sub contractors are so stretched that they're hiring people with no or inadequate experience. I literally watched the house behind me being built by trainees. Post-close warranty work takes forever (literally months) and isn't always done correctly; you have to manage it yourself because Hakes acts like their only responsibility is to enter a service order with contractors, not to actually see it completed. Even the plants used in the bare-minimum landscaping are crap. I cant promise that others builders are better these days; the best advice I can give you is to wait until it's a buyer's market again. But if you cant wait, I can't recommend a Hakes home. Don't let the aesthetics of model homes trick you. read more

Nightmare. Sold us a house based on seeing a model and on line photos. Charged us $ to NOT put up their backsplash. What we got was not what was pictured even after spending an extra $25+k in upgrades. Quality of the build is NOT worth the price. Neighbors are stopping by with more horror stories from their Hakes nightmares, like buckling tile floors and crumbling bath grout. HAKES DOES NOT SEAL GROUT! Hakes Brothers as a company don't care at all about the customer's experience. We bought a house from them and it took much longer than the estimated time. This whole process took much longer than it was supposed to. There were so many ridiculous complications caused by awful management and a shitbag of an owner who could care less about customer satisfaction. The only good thing about this entire process was that the house didn't fall over (even though the quality of it would say otherwise) and I don't know how it's still even standing when you realize that these people barely even know how to run a company. For a "semi-custom" priced builder you get pretty much ZERO choices at "customizing" your floor plan or even small changes that could be easily done at little to no effort. For instance, on one plan they have both the master bedroom and another bedroom on the other side of the house facing the backyard. MAster bed windows face back yard like they should but the other bedroom ONLY has a window facing to the side? That makes no sense and I asked the sales rep, I'm assuming its no problem to add a window on the "back" wall so it faces the backyard would be OK. And he said No, they cannot change even a window type of placement. WOW thats poor customer service and their houses are really cookie-cutters. read more

How the house "passed" their inspection despite the HVAC system and appliances not working, the craftsmanship was horrible. There was patches of the house that were bare of stucco that our third party inspector let us know there would be WATER INTRUSION. If for whatever reason you think Hakes is the builder you want to go with, MAKE SURE YOU GET A THIRD PARTY INSPECTOR. Their sorry excuse for an inspection is worthless. We been in this house for a year now. I wish we could give the house back to Hakes and go with a different builder. Shoddy work and poor customer service has been an ongoing theme with this company. All of the floor and bathroom tile work throughout the house was very poorly done. Failing grout, damaged and hollow tiles, and raised/sunken tiles abound. We have had them in our house at least 5 different times to fix the issues but they keep sending people that don't know what they are doing and end up causing more problems. We been without our master bedroom and bath for about a month now due to their latest attempt to fix the previous vendor's work. We paid for a new house, we ended up with an overpriced fixer upper. From day 1 when the construction started they were rude and did not care about any concerns we had with the quality of the build. Everything was promised to be fixed later and later until it was just too late. The contractors they hire blatantly dont care about the home and and do very poor work. After our closing date we were told they would fix everything for the 30 day warranty. It has taken 3 months to get even close to acceptable repairs. And still the paint looks horrible after the third attemp, the rock wall looks horrible, our cabinet door still wont close, and numerous other issues.
