The best Hakka in Burlington. Period. This restaurant reminds me of Scarborough's no-frills strip-mall ethnic places where the food is delicious and the value is great. Lunch specials cannot be beat - under $15 all-in for soup, spring roll, and a very generous portion. The chilli chicken, by which all Hakka places shall be measured, is fantastic. Has Hakka Fresh Authentic Hakka Chinese Restaurant changed owners? After 10 years of loving them we just had a terrible experience. 1) Forgot to make our order we ordered for pickup 2) Took an hour to make our order when hubby showed up...ordered at 4pm to pick up at 5:20pm. But finally it was ready at 6:30 3) Got home - out of town - to find they gave us the wrong order 4) Called and was gaslighted -- tried to tell us we got what we ordered....we've been placing the same order for 10 years, so nope. 5) Asked for no shrimp - wrong noodles said C/S which I'm assuming meant chicken and shrimp. Now, I understand people make mistakes but...what could they have done differently? 1) made our food immediately when my husband showed up and they realized their error....not made him wait an hour for an order that normally takes 30 minutes 2) apologized for giving us the wrong food instead of saying we got what we ordered 3) offered a replacement for the incorrect food ... 4) showed duty of care about a stated food allergy This is extremely un Hakka like. We stop here whenever we are around Burlington and have been know to drive a LONGGGG way sometimes just for the food. I have travelled extensively throughout India and eating/testing Hakka food all over. Plus I grew up eating Hakka food (living in brampton). This restaurant is the best place you can find in the Halton region. The staff and owners are pleasant and make our food extra extra spicy when we request for it (yes we crazy). When we want Chinese we always order from here & food is generally good however tonight we ordered the Crispy Sesame Beef & was grisly & chewy not crispy. We threw it out. Scoping out some newer places for our lunch crowd I stumbled across Hakka Fresh on Fairview. Lately I have been a fan of Hakka style cuisine in the last month so I ordered some take out. The restaurant is upscale and well kept. Pleanty of seating and the decor updated. I walked up to the counter and found out that they have a specials ($6.99 for a vegetable dish and $7.99 for a non veg dish). I ordered the chili chicken with fried rice. In your combo you also get a small spring roll and your choice of either a daily soup or pop. I opted for pop. The menu here is pretty extensive and there is a number of food choices ranging from some signature "Hakka Fresh" dishes to Chop Suey. I waited in the small waiting area near the cash and the food arrived in less that 10 min. The portion size was very reasonable. The Chili chicken was slathered in "gravy" or sauce, but the taste was good...not too spicy. The fried rice was made with basmati rice (not my favorite type of rice) but it was cooked well. The small spring roll was a nice addition and had a hint of curry flavoring. I have yet to try a dine in experience, but the take out was fast, friendly and the food was good....4 stars read more

This review is based on takeout Manchurian Chicken. The lunch special is amazing for me. It's roughly a little less than $10 and I get to eat it for 2 days at work. I get the Manchurian chicken dry with corn soup & steamed rice. They also give you a veggie spring roll with the order. The chicken isn't always the greatest but it is filling and the spice level to it is delicious. (It does get spicy though!) The veggie roll is an extra and although it isn't packed with ingredients, it does it's job. I love love love the corn soup. Especially with some pepper mixed in. It complements the manchurian chicken spice. I come over week or so to order once and this last me for 2 days. The place doesn't have great reviews but if you go in during 12 at noon, you can see the restaurant doesn't depend on reviews. It is PACKED. A friend of mine told me about this Hakka place that I had to try in Burlington. He ordered us take out. The price is super cheap! $8 for a lunch combo which includes a spring roll, rice and soup. The spring roll was small and a little stale with next to no vegetable in is. I ordered the chilli shrimp and my friend ordered the chilli chicken which seems to be their popular dish. I found it super spicy I had to drink lots of water. Both dish the chicken and shrimp appears to be breaded but for take out it's a bad idea. All the breaded fried batter was mushy and made the dish unappealing. Rice was a bit dry. For soup there's a corn soup and hot and sour soup. Both soups was tasteless. I probably wouldn't come back. This was a pleasant surprise in Burlington. I assumed the flavour would be bland, as is most ethnic food in the suburbs (I live in the burbs, I can make fun of the burbs). We were in the mood for ethnic food and after countless times suggesting we try the Hakka place, we actually went in and got take out. I had the manchurian beef (not fried), Kung Pao Chicken (not fried) and Chicken Biryani. I enjoyed all 3 dishes. Came to total cost $32 and for two adults, this was enough for 2 meals. There is cash discount 10% on take-out orders over $20, be sure to take advantage. Ordering was easy and our food was ready for pick-up when we arrived 20 min later. Food itself surprisingly tasty and not too spicy. Out of the three dishes, Kung Pao chicken my least favourite. But overall good ethnic food experience and I would order from here again. There is the option to eat in their restaurant, which looked like a comfortable and clean venue. I appreciated all the different cultures we saw coming in and out of the restaurant. I have come here with my family twice and have been pleasantly surprised both times. The service is very friendly and prompt, the atmosphere is cozy and the food is always hot and delicious. I highly recommend getting the Kung Pao Chicken if you come here, we ordered it for the first time today and everyone loved it; it's the perfect mix of peanuts, vegetables, and chicken. I also recommend getting the fried banana and ice cream for desert, out of all the places I have been to, this is one of the best for fried bananas. My husband and I are new to Burlington and this has become one of our favourite Friday night dinner spots to grab take-out. If you are thinking of sitting in the restaurant is pretty basic, no frills. The food is quite good. They do not skimp out on the portion sizes and the pricing is as expected, about $12.00 for a dish. I usually order out once a month and have had no issues in the past, however, the last couple of times, my wife and I got a little sick the day after. Had the most bizarre dining experience at this restaurant. We ordered the chicken Hakka noodles, along with some other dishes. They messed up the order and brought us the hakka noodle special (which is chicken and shrimps) instead. We immediately mentioned to the server that it had shrimps because not everyone at the table enjoys shrimps. The server just ignored the comment and walked away. So, we just began eating because we didn't really have time. Two of us four had put the noodles - as well as other dishes on their plates, when the manager came over to our table. Without saying a word he leaned over and grabbed the hakka noodles and started sifting through with a fork. We told him that it's the wrong order but we'll eat it, because we don't have a lot of time. He, also, ignored us. He than looked at the two plates that had noodles on them and reached out, without saying anything - just nodding his head, grabbed one of the two plates. Then, he motioned for the second plate... Again, we said "don't worry, we'll eat it". He still picked up the second plate, while we were left with forks in our hands without plates in front of us. The food was average, and the service was ridiculous. I think, if the exchange wasn't so goddamn awkward we might have actually been angry, but we ended up howling with laughter. The manager/owner didn't have the sense to apologize at all, however, there was another server who came to apologize for the entire ordeal. The brought us the correct order of the chicken hakka noodle, but it was little too late. Giving this place an extra star, only because this story cracks me up everytime. read more

I didn't think anyone could beat the amazing hot & sour soup at China Palace in Malton but this place does! The main improvement is having shrimp and chicken in it as well as the spice blend used. I've been going to this place for last couple of years as this is the only decent choice for Hakka food in our area. Their food and atmosphere is good and the prices are reasonable. We normally order Hot and sour chicken soup (delicious), chicken fried rice ( they use long grain basmati rice which affects the authenticity but the taste is still good), Chilli Chicken (amazing.....5 star) and Karachi chicken (not bad). This time we decided to order Hot n sour Manchurian chicken instead of karachi chicken but I guess in future I will stick to karachi chicken as the Manchurian was way too sweet. Service, although attempted, was unacceptable. My husband, my son and myself were hoping to find a Hakka place locally, but were very disappointed. The appetizers came out separately. My soup came out ten minutes before my son's and 20 minutes before my husband's appetizer (which was definitely forgotten). How does crispy chicken come out before spring rolls? My husband's drink was also forgotten. Our main courses were brought out together, which was a nice surprise. The server asked me if I was vegetarian. I said yes...He then came back to fill the water glasses. My husband had poured his pop in his water glass, because he did not want to drink it out of a can (with a straw). The server started to top up his glass of pop with water. He should have been offered another pop after that mistake. After knowing I'm vegetarian, the server then put my son's chicken in the same container as my vegetarian meal. The one positive aspect was the mango lassi. We would rather drive the extra 25 mins to Hakka Legend in Mississauga. Hakka Fresh had a 1/5 for service and 2/5 for food and drink. We will definitely not return for a second visit.
