    Baked chicken with red sauce
    Caroline C.

This restaurant is our go to when we are craving HK style baked food. It is not the best HK food out there in GTA but it hits home. It's such a comfort food and we love coming here. The service is quick, although not the friendliest. The restaurant is old and can use some renovations.

Reasonable price, few favorites from this HongKong style restaurant/cafe, curry beef brisket on rice , baked pork chop on fried rice, baked beef pineapple on fried rice other than that don't expect too much, however service doesn't disappointed, servers are nice n friendly Some says their set dinner is nice but I hadn't tried it.

Hmmm been here lots of times during my younger days but this is the first time I've been back since a few years ago. Food: good old asian comfort food. Darn delish and on the oil side. My bf got the baked fried chicken on cream sauce to go and when he bought it back to the car , I smelled an instant oil aroma , like the China Buffet fried chicken kind of smell. Funny thing is when we ate it , it didn't taste so oily. Service: not the best. Called 30 mins prior to ordering. They advised it would take 20 mins but it ended up taking 30+ mins :/ Atmosphere: lighting was dim. Comfy but nothing special

Beef ho fun lunch special. 11:30 - 3pm. Sunday.

I really like this place!! They have nice booths and the tables are set far apart. It is simple and the servers are friendly and actually speak English. I enjoy the menu offerings, which is Hong Kong style. They have lunch specials which are available on the weekends also. The specials run from 11-ish am to 3pm. The serving size is generous. During this lunch visit, we ordered the beef ho fun which could feed two people and it cost around $8.50. We also ordered the two entree deal, which is, 2 entrees with one cup of rice with each entree for $19.75 or so. They also have the three entree special for $27.95. I am not sure of the exact price to the cent, but I do know that it is a good deal. For the two entrees, we ordered the spicy salted squid. It was not that salty or spicy. However, it was quite crispy and moist. The other entree we ordered was the ginger and green onion beef. It was flavourful and had just the right amount of ginger and green onion. There was a lot of meat and I do think it's worth it to order. This place is a solid choice for Hong Kong style Chinese food and I am tempted to just keep coming back here and not try anything new because, yea it's that good!

Hands down the BEST baked pork chop rice around

Easy FIVE stars for one of the BEST, if not the best, baked pork chop rice around. We came here for lunch on a Saturday afternoon and there were plenty of tables available. As the quest for the best pork chop rice continues, my girlfriend (from Mississauga), proclaims this Phoenix restaurant has the best iteration of the dish. She's not wrong. The dish was harmonious. Firstly, the dish was baked (not all places bake their pork chop rice these days). Secondly, the tomato sauce was perfectly balanced with tanginess and sweetness. Thirdly, the pork chop was boneless and fried for extra texture. Fourthly, the fried rice was nice and eggy. You can see the egg dispersed and coated for all the grains of the rice. I can probably keep going on but I'll stop myself there. I have to say I saw at least another five tables order this dish. It's simply a masterpiece. It may not look the most appetizing but it is an amazing tasting dish. It's the ultimate comfort food. We also ordered the Singaporean noodle and I really enjoyed that. It wasn't overly oily and I appreciate it that because other restaurants has their versions literally doused in oil. The curry powder they use here is very fragrant and has a nice kick to it. There was a good amount of toppings as well. Price are inexpensive, they include a hot drink, the menu has a great amount of variety (but not too much to the point it's confusing). The decor and interior is fine, it's comfortable and is part of the charm. I find value in imperfections.

PSA: This is not the same chain as the Phoenix restaurants in Markham area Pros: - They have really good dinner set meals / dinner for 2 deals. These include soup, bread, and drinks (highly recommend their cold milk tea) - If you like noodles, their Seafood Noodle on their dinner menu is so good (I must have gotten it 3 times in a span of 3 weeks..) - Prices are all reasonable and portions are quite large - Staff is pretty friendly and responsive - Food comes out pretty fast - They take cash & credit card (but not debit). Not a lot of Chinese restaurants take credit so this is a huge plus if you're a cc user Cons: - This restaurant is pretty old so the decors are outdated but if you don't mind this, I would definitely recommend this place if you're craving HK food

I came here on a Sunday for dinner with my parents. It was so empty - only a few tables were being serviced and another table was occupied by the cooks. It made me sad seeing how empty this place is now compared to when I was younger. Ten years ago this place was very popular and you would occasionally need to wait. There have been some renovations over the years but the menu has remained much the same. Coming back here definitely brings up some childhood memories for me. The restaurant is quite big and is dimly lit. It has a romantic casual vibe to it, if cheap Asian restaurants have that category. The service is decent for Chinese restaurants, they tend to you when you call them. I shared the Lovers' Meal with my mom and my dad got a pork chop entree. My favourite thing about eating here is the set meals and how it comes with soup, bread, escargot, and tea at the end of the meal. The mains are huge in portion as well. The chicken and pork were very tender and the sauce wasn't too sweet. The only bad thing about the dish was the peaches were cold. They should have been warmed up before being mixed in with the rest of the food. The pork chop was crispy and lightly breaded. It also wasn't too oily which is a huge plus for fried food. The tea also tasted great, you could really taste the subtlety of the HK milk tea flavours in it. Overall this place is a nice quiet place to have some combo lunches or dinners. It's isn't upscale and the prices reflect that - cheap for huge portions.

We were in the area and decided to try this location of Phoenix Chinese restaurant. Phoenix is a Chinese style western diner. Imagine starting with a western meal and adding Chinese food seasoning and interpretation into the mix. The result is a very unique, distinctive taste. We ordered a dinner meal with escargot as the appetizer and pork chop and spaghetti as the main course. Hot almond milk for the drink. A second dinner combo was ordered with tomato soup appetizer, steak + vegetables + noodles as the main course and hot almond milk for the drink. I enjoyed my meal because the food was good and because of Phoenix's very distinctive style, I liked some items more than others. I loved the bread roll they gave us before the appetizers came. It was hot and soft and one of the best I've had in a long time. The escargot was baked with some cheese and was very good also, but when I sampled the tomato soup I thought it too heavily flavoured and the pepper was too strong. For the main courses. Both the pork chop and the steak were yummy and I would order them again. I liked the steak slightly better as the pork chop was covered with a very large amount of tomato sauce. However, I want to note the steak came with vegetables and a very small portion of noodles and the pork chop came with a very large amount of spaghetti. Overall. I enjoyed a unique and above average experience. 3.7 / 5.0

Baked chicken on spaghetti with cream sauce

Aite. Phoenix is the TO-GO place for late night munchies at happy hour price. It doesn't get too packed past 9 and they're opened till 1230-1 depending on the day. My favourite thing to order from the happy hour menu is the baked chicken on spaghetti with cream sauce. You can get it with tomato sauce too but it's the Asian style sauce where it's a bit sweet. All happy hour menu comes with a drink. Cold drinks are an additional .75c and the cold milk tea/coffee is really good. Generally all the cold drinks are good and there's a few you can pick from. The restaurant is quite spacious and there are 2 large round tables by the window. It's not a problem to split bills, just let them know. Payment is cash or credit card only. Can pay at the counter, no need to wait. One of my favourite Chinese restaurants. Always down to go here!

Okay people, this ain't a fancy ass HK eatery, OK. Once you get past the torn chairs and the geriatric clientèle, this place is actually pretty decent! We ordered the staples: baked pork chop with tomato sauce on fried rice and beef brisket noodle soup. Both dishes were good... But because they were both 5.99 each, they were excellent! I wouldn't go here for a nice dinner or a date but when you just want a quick meal... Can't complain!

Even though it was not busy, it took 10 minutes for my first dish, another 10 minutes for my second one, and 30 minutes for my third one. When I was eating slowly my first dish, I wondered if they forgot my order. I had to pack my noodle home as I could not wait longer

Curry Beef Brisket - $7.99, 11-3pm price. Came with soup/HK tea. Not very curry-ish.
    Stephanie S.

***TIP: Cash Only. They have delivery!*** Food quality is like 2-2.5/5 + Service is prompt, efficient, & polite + Portion/Value is 5/5 It's no secret why this place is popular amongst the Chinese crowd...because it's CHEAP! Big Portions + Low Prices = Popularity. Beef Brisket Curry ($7.99, came with Soup/post-meal HK milk tea) - Cuts of meat is not of good quality. Chunks of meat were accompanied by a chunk of fat and I honestly thought it was pork belly due to the fat and texture of meat. I found the curry itself very, very mild and on the bland side. Portion was HUGE, leftovers even after sharing! Rice Noodle w/ Black Bean & Beef - Better than Curry dish. Again, leftovers even after sharing. Both dishes were at least 3-4 servings. Interior desperately NEEDS to be reno'd. It's outdated, dark, booths are worn out, & all-in-all dingy. Can be more 'uplifting' by upgrading the lighting, removing water-stained ceiling tiles, smashing those ugly mirrored walls, and a coat (or 2) of paint! (Guys, NOT SUITABLE FOR DATE-NIGHT, especially a first date unless you're trying to test out if someone is a gold digger.) As my mom said, "You won't die eating here!"

Baked ox tongue on rice ;) yummmm

Solid solid restaurant for cha cha tang food and chinese-western fusion. They make the best baked rice + baked escargot combos! Great food for a great price! Make sure you get their set meals or upgrade to a combo! Comes w a tea/coffee or can upgrade to a nice iced lemon tea (my fav classic!!) Or horlicks. My family has been going here for decades and we still visit this iconic cafe as a reminder of our childhood. Awesome place for dinner or late night dinners!!

They were quite busy with takeout orders which I took as a good sign. We ordered the Beef Sirloin Noodles level spicy and numb(4/5), Breaded Shrimp (5/5) Seafood Fried Rice (4/5) and Lamb Skewers (4/5). Beef Sirloin Noodles were delicious. The broth itself was not overly salty compared to other places we've been to. I enjoyed the addition of peanuts to this dish for that extra crunchy texture and nutty taste. The noodles were cooked perfectly. They were bouncy and chewy. The beef itself was good. Some were a tad bit chewy. I wish there was more bok choy. We'd also opt for extra spicy and extra numb next time. Breaded Shrimp was enjoyable. You can't go wrong with this dish. It was crispy, and the batter to shrimp ratio was decent. Seafood Fried Rice was good as well. Again, we liked how it wasn't overly salty. We were able to sense the taste of the seafood. I wish they added more scallops since we only got two pieces in the whole dish. Lamb Skewers were satisfying flavour-wise. We really liked the seasoning on them. It was on the chewier side but it was manageable. We'd like to try their other skewer options next time. Overall, such a good spot for affordable and delicious food. I'm glad my family recommended this place. I'd like to point out that a customer was being problematically entitled and rude yet the female server stayed professional. I thought she handled the situation quite calmly which I wanna commend her for. P.S. The restaurant has a sign on their door saying not to bring pets inside. So please read this and try not to bring your pet inside to avoid looking entitled and rude.

It is a nice local spot to get your Chinese food cravings fixed. Their menu seems to be the same for all locations, the only difference being the price, all locations potentially the same other than the downtown location. See their website: https://www.congeequeen.com/menu.php and select your location. It has been a while since we have eaten at the Congee Queen outside of the Toronto (Dundas/Yonge) location, so we were a bit surprised at the price difference (8-10% difference). This location (Heartland Town Center) feels like it has the right price for the menu. With cash, you also get a 10% discount. We were here on a Wednesday for an early dinner around 15:30 - 17:00 and it was about medium full for the main area. People were coming and going at a good pace. For our group of four, we ordered: - B3 Salmon Congee $11 ($12 downtown) - H11 Chicken Salted Fish Fried Rice $18.25 ($19.75 downtown) - K34 Fried Bean Curd with Veggie $19.50 ($21.50 downtown) - K42 Salt and Pepper Squid $16.50 ($18.25 downtown) - K53 Fried Chili Turnip Cakes $13.75 ($15.00 downtown) Service was a bit slow, but not the longest as there were only 2-3 staff taking orders that day for about 15-20 tables. If you signaled for assistance, they will come. Once ordered thought, the food came out in about 5 mins and all the dishes were ready soon after. Tea is refilled on request, just ask. As usual, the fried rice and congee is what they are known for, it was excellent as usual. Depending on the group you go with, YMMV, but for our order combination, this usually works comes out at the same time and everything is hot and tasty. The turnip cakes are the softer type and they even accommodated checking for shrimp. They are usually good about seafood checks. All in all, great experience. With the discount and tips all in, it was less than $100 total at $25 per person. It has been a while since we've eaten out with a group at that price point. Will keep in mind to meetup at any of the non downtown locations in future.

This location is on the small side and the seating is quite limited. That said, whenever we come here Sunday afternoons, we never have trouble getting tables during walk-ins. The staff is always attentive and we never have to wait for much long for the food to come. They always ask you if you want water or tea. Usually also get a bowl of seaweed soup with your order (per person) though this time around we didn't get any. We ordered a lot for dinner. For appetizers, we ordered the braised pork pan-fried buns, which were amazing. The bun was really fluffy, and the filling was flavourful and just the right amount of juicy. We also had chive pork dumplings. These were also good, though I admit I prefer the pan-fried ones. In particular, our dumplings came out kind of gummy. We had some scallion pancakes which were nice and crispy, and very flavourful. Then, some dried beancurd sticks that were just the right amount of spiciness. Do keep in mind the beancurd sticks are cold (it surprised me the first time I had it). Finally, we had some honey garlic chicken wings. They fry their chicken wings really well, and they don't overdo the sauce which is great. We did have trouble fitting all of this on the table since we ordered so much. We managed, but just keep this in mind if you like to order a lot of appetizers. We each ordered a main. My boyfriend had the lemongrass chicken with egg on rice, which he enjoyed. I also enjoyed my Taiwanese braised pork. My pork dish was amazing and they cooked the egg really well. I was missing my time in Taiwan so I ordered the Taiwanese Braised Pork and Egg on rice. We also ordered Pumpkin Pie with Red Bean Filling, stir-fried rice noodles with bean sprouts, Juicy Chinese Pork Burger, and their Juicy Cheese Beef Burger. Everything was quite good especially the Chinese Pork Burger. The outer shell was so crispy and the pork meat was so juicy and was seasoned just right. The Taiwanese Braised Pork rice was good but definitely not as good as in Taiwan lol. Also, if coming here, you have to try their signature pan fried buns. That is what they are known for. We didn't order it this time because we've had it a bunch of times already. Overall, this restaurant always hits. It's not the most amazing food but like the name suggest, It is very home style comfort food.

Called over the phone and ordered she didn't know it was me and asked if i knew where they were located which was nice. So My order was General tao chicken ( we usually get chilli chicken but don't like it dry, prefer the sauced up spicy, so this is the equivalent at some places), chicken balls, chicken fried rice, and chicken wings. The total was about 40$, which is fair and the portions were alot less to what I was used to. The general tao chicken was not even a little bit spicy, even though she said it was so that was disappointing. On top of that the breaded part of the chicken was extremely soggy and the plate was full of soggy over cooked veggies underneath. the chicken wings were fried and greasy tasted great and well seasoned. Just not like what I'd usually get from a Chinese take out place as it just looked different the way it was breaded and fried. The rice was in a really small container w under cooked pieced of chicken that was very slimy and white and the rice was very bland. I had to overkill w soy sauce and bit of red sauce. Lastly the chicken balls of course 80% balls 20% chicken but tasted fine, just nothing special. I mean it was cheap and last minute but i definitely feel like i would not have ordered here if i had known cheap or not. They have alot to improve on or mayb they are better at making other items listed in reviews from others. Not sure how they have 5 stars. but hey to each their own right!
