We started going here regularly bc 1. The food was awesome, 2. it was inexpensive and 3. it was something different. I stopped in over the weekend. Like everything else, the portion was smaller, AND, of course more expensive but unappealing spicy. I know I don't care for the red sauce so I avoid it and this is likely mild for this style of food! The white sauce tasted more like tartar sauce than anything else and even the rice was spicy...it will be ok for the odd occasion, but def not mÿ favorite anymore... I saw this restaurant when I was driving on the Berlin turnpike and I had to check it out. I ordered the lamb over rice platter. It came with lamb (beef mixture) , white rice , fries and salad. I ordered a gyro pita and chicken nuggets for someone else. I really liked my gyro, the meat was good and tender. I would get again. The nuggets I say don't bother. They're basically the same frozen nuggets you can get at any grocery store. I had to wait a really long time for my order but it was a Friday night. I didn't enjoy it here enough to make a special trip just for it, but, if I were already in the area I'd def come again. I appreciate the late hours, too. read more

Finally decided to try this establishment while in the area. They have great LED signs on the walls around the shop that are lit up. The space itself is pretty big with plenty of seating available & a bathroom available for paying customers. We ordered a chicken platter of course, as that's one of the first things to order when trying a new Halal spot. We also ordered some onion rings, 5 count chicken tenders, falafel balls & "spicy chicken" sandwich. As it was my 1st time checking this place out, I did not know that they don't cover their chicken tenders. I ended up asking for buffalo sauce on the side to dip, as well as some blue cheese, & ranch. The staff had no issues providing me with any sauce quantity. If you know me, you know love a good amount of dipping options. I also grabbed their white, red, & green sauces to drizzle because why not? Those are the trio for their platters in my opinion. The chicken tenders alone were good and not dry but some of the coating did fall off. Very much enjoyed the chicken platter with French fries to top it all off. The onion rings were regular degular to me. Their falafel balls were pretty good accompanied by their white sauce. I also felt that the "spicy" chicken sandwich wasn't spicy what so ever. It had a slight smokey flavor instead of spicy. There's also some cake slices available if you wanted something sweet to go. Since this visit I've already returned once, it has yet to disappoint! We recently visited Halal Minxhies after always stopping to get gas next door and being curios. Curiosity got the best of me and we finally be tired in after a long day! We ordered their fish sandwich, mixed grill platter, wings and hummus with pita. My fav was def the mixed grill platter, it's beautiful but the meat was SO tender which is hard to come by with the cubed cut but very much appreciated! We also liked their hearty wings - a meal unto themselves. The fish sandwich was ok, fish was good quality but it could've used some sort of sauce or aioli. Surprisingly I didnt like their hummus and pita. The pita was tough and didn't taste fresh and the hummus had an unappealing flavor. The good news is I'd go back and try their palates and gyros again along with those crispy fries! read more

The Chicken & Rice with white sauce and BBQ Sauce at the new Halal Munchies in Berlin on the Turnpike is a total home run. I drive by that area of the Turnpike regularly and I've been anxiously awaiting their opening because I love Halal menus. Halal Munchies just started their Soft Opening today and I'm already a big fan. If you haven't had Halal Food, many people associate it with the food offered at NYC carts and trucks. Chicken and rice. Gyros. Etc. Halal Munchies also offers things like burgers, fries, wings, apps. Chicken and rice is the perfect starter meal. It comes with tender and well seasoned chicken pieces on top of flavorful rice. It also usually comes with a salad. And the white sauce. Don't even ask what it is. Just order it. It's fresh made "Ranch-ish" with herbs, but it's really its own thing. I added BBQ sauce to mine and they have a bunch of sauce options. But GET the WHITE sauce first time out. That's the move. Each portion of Halal Munchie's version was perfect. And get this, it came with surprise fries. Crispy. Tasty and Sauced. Very good. I also ordered a 2 piece falafel. It was kind of a donut style of falafel. I maybe got it over-sauced, but that's on me. Great texture, temperature and flavor. Very good version. Halal Munchie's is a small regional chain. I believe this is the first CT location. It's fast casual. My chicken and rice was ready almost instantly. The falafel took a little more time. Service was friendly. We finally made our way to this restaurant on a Sunday night and took the advice of prior posters by ordering chicken over rice with white sauce that included both french fries and salad. Though ample seating was available, we chose takeout and found the portion size on returning home to be such that neither of us could finish our meals. Prices are more than reasonable and the flavor profile was deemed so good that a return visit is considered a given. read more

We ordered the chicken gyros. It's basically the same cubed up seasoned chicken they use for the chicken and rice. Not the typical ground meat sliced from the skewer. It was tasty and a big portion We also got fries and wings. All were good. Will go back to try some other options. Dirty! Lack of proper food handling and personal hygeine! While standing inside the restaurant waiting for my mobile order, an employee was doing various things behind the counter, wearing gloves. He then played on his iPhone for several minutes. Still wearing the same gloves. Another employee gave him a ticket and asked him to prepare my order. He proceeded to put his phone down and began preparing my entire order wearing those same filthy gloves. Directly touching food, such as cucumbers, garnish, etc.. with the dirty gloves. I watched in disgust but didn't want to create a scene in the busy restaurant. Even if he changed his gloves at that point, he had already contaminated half the food in the bins. I had prepaid for my food via mobile order so just waited and watched. The employee handed off my packaged order to another worker who brought it to me at the counter, and this worker's fingernails were beyond filthy. Literally visible dirt and scum underneath his nails, handing my food off to me. Most of the workers were essentially barefoot wearing flip-flops behind the counter Overall, extremely un appetizing, unprofessional, and un hygienic. I tossed my food once I got out of there and will not return. Just want to note that I reached out to them several weeks ago via message on their (active) Instagram page when this happened to share this experience and have yet to get a reply. Halal Munchies gets high marks for freshness, flavor, portion size & overall value; no offense to Shah Halal, however there's no comparison. The food is freshly made to order & quite delicious. This is a great addition to the town of Berlin! I'm so happy it's less than 3 minutes away from my house. I went on Friday 7/12 and ordered the chicken over rice with the white sauce and hot sauce on the side. It was delicious. I went back Sunday 7/14 and had the lamb over rice and added a couple falafel balls for some crunch. It was excellent as well. The owner is very friendly and has a very bright and clean restaurant. I wish them luck but I don't think they'll need it. read more

Ordered 2 cheese steak grinders. Very tasty and full 12 inch for 10.99. My husband and I ended up splitting one and saved the other grinder for another meal. Place is very clean. Stopped in after ordering online for take out on a Tuesday evening. Larger order took slightly longer than quoted but for the price was worth the wait. Ordered 3 over rice platters, Falafel, chicken and lamb all with white sauce. Each came with salad and elected to choose hummus instead of fries. Paid extra $1 for half pita which each that were sadly not included for pita consumption. Chicken came in both and orange and the white sauce nd reminded me of chicken tikka masala. Kids got 5 piece chicken tenders (huge and juicy and well coated), cheeseburger each with fries and a can soda for $3. Fries were surprisingly good. Hummus was okay would probably choose fries next time. The presentation of the platter was nice. Ample parking and lit up bright orange was a good size clean and new space with counter style service and a tablet for placing orders when you enter.
