Hands down the best hidden gem in Connecticut. The market itself has so many unique and interesting finds but the real treasure is the tiny eatery in the back of the store. 10/10 recommend the falafel and the gyro (ask them to make it extra spicy if you are feeling sassy!) The falafel is the best in New England - trust me I've tried them all. The service deserves a mention as every single employee is extremely kind and makes you feel appreciated. I believe they are all brothers and just the nicest people ever. Don't forget to grab a piece of baklava!

I've always liked Tangiers, but it's just outside my normal dining radiance. Yelp's recent Top 25 Places to Eat in CT list reminded me that I was overdue for a visit. Tangiers is a great Middle Eastern/Mediterranean market where you might buy high quality olives, feta, hard to find Mediterranean or Middle Eastern cheeses, oil, baklava, frozen meals, yogurt, etc. For that reason alone, Tangiers is a 5 Yelp Star business. And at least at certain times of day, you can also order food for takeout or you can eat at one of a few inside or outside tables. I've only ordered gyros and baklava, but they're very good. The gyros are unique to what I've had in other places. On my recent visit, I ordered a lamb gyro. The meat is very thin-sliced relative to other places. I mean that as a style observation only. There's an appropriate amount of meat. It also comes with chopped sautéed onions, tomatoes and I think peppers. I've never had that on another gyro anywhere. The pita is very good and grilled. The filling also includes lettuce, cabbage, and tzatziki. The gyro is tasty and satisfying. The service at Tangiers has always been exceptional. Like seriously Top 5 percentile for all businesses. They're very helpful and genuinely happy to see you. Definitely check out Tangiers if you like to cook, or explore different types of food markets. Or if you're looking for a high quality, casual meal. Five Stars

SO good! Had been hearing about this place for a while and finally checked it out and happily it lived up to the hype (isn't it the worse when people rave about something and then you're underwhelmed?). Well this place is delicious! The food is perfectly good and fresh, the market has lots of great items to purchase including a dairy and frozen section, and there are fun bottle/can drink options! Everyone there was very friendly. The food hit the spot, will definitely be back!

Been coming here for years, always great service and food. The falafel sandwich is delicious I always get it with hot sauce and no onions. Baba Ganouj is creamy and tangy served with a good portion of bread, and the hummus as well. As you can see in the pictures the selection of foods from all over the Middle East is amazing from olives to pots and pans. The outside seating area is beautiful. on sunny day it makes you feel like you are on the beach. Store is clean and food selection is great. accessible

Tangiers is an absolute staple in Hartford County and easily known for some of the best gyros anywhere! I first tried this place years ago when my friend who is a teacher is Hartford bought me a gyro as a thank you for helping setup her classroom! I have been thinking about that gyro ever since... but never went back. Shame on me! That same friend brought me one the other night when we went to trivia together nearby. It literally made my day, no week! Now, she goes so much the owners know her by name (mask and all) - clearly I need to step it up because it really is the best gyro you can get nearby! And such an amazing international market too.

LOCATION: The present location is on Winsted's main thoroughfare. Ample parking is available in the lot behind the brick building that houses the restaurant. CONCEPT: Chef Noujaim brings the culinary traditions of his native Lebanon, as well as some dishes from other Mediterranean cultures. AMBIANCE: The restaurant is divided into two dining areas. Sunlight streams through the large exterior window, and mirrors placed along the brick walls of the interior dining room bounce light and make the space feel more expansive. SERVICE: Service is exceptional... Chef Noujaim is very active in all aspects of the restaurant, yet takes time to personally connect with customers. There is such a welcoming feeling when visiting Noujaim's Bistro -- one that is uncommonly experienced in Connecticut. FOOD: I haven't been able to match the Lebanese food I've had at Alladin Restaurant in Allentown, where there is a large Lebanese community. After decades I've finally found a match during my first visit to Noujaim's Bistro. I chose dishes to best compare my U.S.-based benchmark-- Hummus, Baba Ghanouj, Fattoush, Turkish coffee and Halvah. Portions were generous, inviting sharing. The Fattoush was far better than my benchmark in both presentation and preparation. Likewise the Halvah, which was served with candied orange. This dessert paired perfectly with the intense coffee. So good, I was eager to return the next day. Given it is an hour long drive from home, my solution will be to order additional dishes to take home! TIPS: The restaurant is open Thursday, Friday, and Saturday. Catering is a popular option, and the business is able to cater in New York and Massachusetts as well. Consider coordinating a visit with the American Museum of Tort Law just down the street, founded by another community member of Lebanese descent, Ralph Nader. Portions are generous and invite sharing.

It is intentional. The food, the market, the people, the energy of the place all make it worth the trip every single time. The flavors here are deeply rooted in the Middle East and the Mediterranean, and you can taste that authenticity in every bite. The hummus is silky and perfectly balanced with tahini and lemon. The baba ganoush carries real smoky depth. The chicken kebabs are juicy and seasoned all the way through. The shawarma is warm, aromatic, and layered with spice. The falafel is crisp outside, vibrant and herbaceous inside. My personal favorite is the Iraqi Chicken Sandwich. It is absolutely phenomenal. The chicken is tender, boldly seasoned, and packed with flavor. Every bite is balanced and satisfying. It is the kind of sandwich that stays on your mind long after you leave. Everything is halal and incredibly fresh. The place is always busy, which tells you everything. The food turns over quickly. The products in the market turn over quickly. There are always people picking up takeout and others shopping the shelves. And the market itself is a treasure. Authentic meats, cheeses, sausages, dairy products, dry goods, teas, dried beans, spices, specialty ingredients and more, all reflecting the flavors of the Middle East and the Mediterranean. These are items you simply will not find in conventional grocery stores. If you love to cook, you will walk out inspired. If you have never been before, do not be intimidated. Walk in. The staff are incredibly welcoming, friendly, and accommodating. There is space to sit and enjoy your meal, and they do a huge takeout business as well. Dunya is easily one of the best places in Waterbury and the surrounding areas. Authentic flavor. Unique products. Warm hospitality. I highly recommend it.
