Hellfire was so entertaining and neat - loved how they used real fire. We sat on the third row and we would definitely keep the same row for future visits. Hale is the place to go if you're looking for spectacle. I have seen some technically incredible shows here, such as Titanic, Treasure Island, and, most recently, Prince of Egypt. However, shows that don't require as many special effects aren't always worth seeing here. For instance, Fiddler on the Roof here was okay, but I have enjoyed it more at other cheaper, local theaters. The concessions are good and reasonably priced. It's a little wild that they only have one bathroom per gender when they have literally two theaters of people coming out at approximately the same time, but there's nothing that can be done about that now, I suppose. My main beef is that they got rid of the physical programs. The reception in the building is terrible, so I can never see the online program. Even if I could, I can't check it during the performance for the names of actors or to see when intermission is. There needs to be a small printout with that information available for audience members, and everything else can stay online. read more

This show took place in the smaller theater, but the set was amazing! So many cool props, costumes, and actors. Such a good, classic story and this play did it justice! My wife and I both enjoy the Hale Centre Theater very much. The theater itself is convenient to the suburb we live in. Exterior fountains and statuary make great photo-ops. The interior is tastefully decorated and always has beautifully staged photo-ops specific to each show currently running. The theater, food concessions and restrooms are always kept immaculately clean for each performance, The largely volunteer staff is always helpful and courteous. Each production has a wonderfully talented professional staff. I was particularly impressed with the show we saw, "The Time Machine." If you've read the book or seen the film, you will be delighted to know that this is a completely revised retelling of the story that I believe everyone will enjoy. This show appears in the Jewel Box Theater and this smaller setting works beautifully for this particular story. Please note this show does make brief use of smoke and strobe lights in a few scenes so those sensitive to such things should be forewarned. We love the Health theater and give it our highest rating. read more

We had the most wonderful time here! I am a Broadway fanatic and have seen hundreds of plays across the US. The Newsies production at this theatre was FANTASTIC! I'm so glad we gave this place a try! The play was adapted well and the actors and dancers were top notch! The stage in the middle is round which I thought was so neat and different! It really adds to the excitement of the play and helps to ensure that everyone has a great 360 view! They have lots of candy, snacks and beverage choices. You can even pre-order for quick pick up during intermission. Bathrooms were nice and lines moved quickly. We can't wait to come back in December for ELF! read more

Went to Footloose last night and was very disappointed. Don't generally give bad reviews but Hale should be so much better. A. The singing was so off tune, especially the lead redhead. B. My first time at the new Hale theater. It's beautiful. Our play wasn't in the theater in the round, but the theater we were in was perfect for the play we saw. It's on the small size. (I'd say more intimate) loved loved loved the stadium seating. Isles are not wide, so think twice before getting up, and leaving the theater during the play/musical. Sound system was perfect, we could hear the actors on the back row. We could also see the couple in front of us (with their son between them) having a conversation throughout the whole dang musical. Which was so annoying. Look... if your child is just going to play games on his phone why bring him, and if you are going to talk the WHOLE time why buy a ticket? The dad at one point during the performance whipped out his phone, and started scrolling through his Facebook. REALLY! Anyone who has sat in a dark theater knows what a distraction the light on a phone is. Yes, Yes, I said something to the dad, despite my daughters being embarrassed. I paid good money to see a musical not to watch you scroll down Facebook. I've never heard of this Tony Award Winner Musical, and quite enjoyed it. Great acting and singing from the cast. The policy that they have in place is really unrealistic. I had a death in the family and I understand that I can't come and see the show and that I know that they needed to exchange the tickets but they wanted me to go to the very next show next week. How's that possible when I'm going to be out of the state? I asked if I could have a credit for another show or if we could push the exchange show out farther and they said no. I really like going to the theater and I really like the shows but I think that not offering some sort of an emergency refund or emergency credit Just didn't sit right with me. read more

It's been fascinating to watch the growth of Hale over the last couple of decades. I remember seeing a show a long while back at the Orem theater. I believe "bless their hearts" was the best way to describe it. I also remember the SLC location. Before the current location. Nope, before that one by I-215. The old one. The small one. With each new location, it's become more and more impressive what they can do, and this new iteration is really quite something. Still a theater in the round, there's also a small theater here, though I've not seen a show there. The main theater is a quite impressive in its capabilities. I saw Cinderella here (twice, long story) and was pretty blown away by the staging. Truthfully, once they were in the I-215 location I thought some of the staging teetered on gimmicky, but the talent has really risen to the staging and they all meet the same level of professionalism now. With a rising and sinking stage, rotating pieces of the floor, and scenery that can be flown in and out (not to mention actors that can be lifted up and away or dropped down) the experience at Hale makes the actual stage itself a character in the show. And that's a unique theater experience. Cinderella was really impressive, with a very talented cast. I purposely booked shows on different days to see both sets of the double cast, but the main role was played by the same actor on both nights. While kinda bummed for comparison sake, she was brilliant and I really can't complain. Just a few thoughts on the theater itself--the parking garage is really handy but just remember which floor you're one. I can't stand the restroom soap. Yes, I know the essential oil company sponsors the theater but it's obnoxious stuff. Also you may want to bring a jacket, as the air conditioning is really effective. One final thought; you're paying nearly $50 a ticket, depending on the show. That's a nice night out. You will undoubtedly see people in shorts and flip flops, but what if, instead of joining the dress-down culture, you spruced yourself up for a night out? read more

My wife and I are fans of the arts and love to get out to see shows. We typically go downtown, but when this theater opened recently, we jumped on the opportunity to attend shows closer to home. While the facility itself is very nice, well maintained and clean, it does scream "Utah." The majority of patrons fit a very stereotypical demographic. Oftentimes we, as a non-traditional, same-gender couple, get looks from people and we definitely don't fit in. That's not to say that the theater itself is that way, but there certainly is a lack of diversity in audience members. The performances we have been to have all been good-some better than others, and all have been very "safe." You won't find edgy or controversial programs (likely due to the target demographic and largest sponsor being the LDS church.) But if you're in the market for a family-friendly play where you can be assured wholesome entertainment, this is your place. read more

What a joke; the fact that the Hale Centre Theatre requires their patrons to wear masks does not provide a safe environment from Covid 19 and its variants because social distancing is NOT practiced in any form in their venue. With a fully packed house, the Hale has the potential to be a significant spreading source for the virus, which their management seem to think is behind us. That being said, with my opinion being that they do not take precautions to protect their patrons, we did enjoy the production in their small theatre. We saw the show (Daddy Long Legs) which featured two great performers and a fun musical score. Although the content and story line were pretty saccharinely sweet, from being produced over a century ago, it was a nice "wholesome" show that really couldn't offend anyone. I would encourage the management of the Hale Centre Theatre limit the size of their audiences in the theatre and lobby for social distancing even if it means fewer tickets sold. I can only imagine huge groups of people like we were surrounded by can only exacerbate the spread of Covid, even with masks, especially when so many Utahns are reluctant to get the immunization jab. Otherwise they will be doing a disservice to their patrons by risking their health. The show a solid 4; the venue's social distancing policy a solid 0. read more

This is not a 2 star rating but on the current play Mousetrap. I've been to dozens of musicals at Hale over the years and would give mostly 4 and 5 stars. Mousetrap had great lead characters Morgan Fenner and Clayton Barney. Unfortunately, their great performance was over Shawnee by the pitiful performances of "Mrs. Boyle and mostly "Miss Casewell". Honestly, the fake accents and the tempo that the lines were delivered made it very difficult to keep up with the dialogue. Too fast, people yelling their lines and unnatural blocking. Don't pay for this one. If it's part of your package oh well, but don't pay to go see. read more

My family and I have season tickets and have enjoyed coming to Hale throughout the years. Hale is stunning with it's 360 degree view and there is not a bad seat in the house. The set design is always so well done. Honestly, my favorite part is to see what they do with the set for each new play. For the most part, the lineup is really fun and I look forward to going to all of them throughout the year. There's always the one really popular play each year that everyone in Utah seems to get excited about. We have enjoyed seeing plays we already know and plays we might not otherwise see. I have been coming to Hale to see A Christmas Carol since I was a kid and it's a tradition I look forward to each year. read more

This is probably my favorite Theatre! It's seriously incredible what they can do with it. Having a theatre in the round like this makes the show feel so intimate. It allows you to see each performer's emotion and totally draws you in! There really isn't a bad seat. Even at the top, you feel close. The actors they hire here are so good! In many of the shows I've seen, I've even preferred the performers here to the ones in the original soundtracks. They have incredible vocals that blow me away! A couple of my favorites include Aida and The Scarlet Pimpernel. My family had season tickets so many of us saw every show and we've loved each one! They often exceed my expectations and I've purchased tickets to see the same production abecause it was that good and I leave wanting to watch it all over again! The way they built the stage allows them to do awesome things that totally enhance the experience! Huge sets will come down from the ceiling, the floor opens up and moves in all sorts of ways, they bring up pools, gardens, you name it! The sets are always outstanding! On top of that, I love the lighting effects. They do a lot of projections and colored light a to enhance the feel of each scene. They don't hold back and it seems like there's really not much they couldn't do! In addition to the main round theater, they have a half sized one that has other shows. They can't do as much with this stage, but I've enjoyed the shows I've seen there too! Hale Centre Theatre is amazing and it's a unique way to see great productions! We had been gifted tickets to Mary Poppins, so we used them (so as not to lose them) during these COVID times and they put on a great show! However, their COVID regulations do require being masked the entire time during the show; the concessions are closed (free glasses of water only); and there is no social distancing when they seat you in the theater itself. HCT ask that people social distance in the lobby, but they don't work to block out any theater seats to add space between patrons. It is a lovely theater, and we hope we can enjoy it again when these pandemic regulation times have ended. Definitely not easy for them to cater to patrons during these challenging times, but we wish they were distancing people more in the theater. 3.5 stars. read more

Saw a Tuesday showing of Newsies. Performance was incredible. Theater is gorgeous and very new. Literally no bad seats. Bathrooms were clean and the line moved quickly during intermission. Note there is no alcohol sold in the venue. They have soda ($3) and sweet treats ($2-5). There are two small water fountains. Free parking in the parking garage which was kind of a Madhouse on the way out. read more

I love the new concept that Hale Centre Theatre brings with the 360 degree view. This was my family's first time to the theatre and I wasn't sure how to pick the seating as with some it's difficult to see the show if you sit to far on the side or two far back. You really can't go wrong with anywhere you pick here. I don't know that I'd pick the front few rows only because the lights would shine directly on them and the performers would sometimes go right next to them on the edge as they performed. Some people looked a little akward, but that's personal preference. We went to Phantom over the weekend. I thought it was the original Phantom of the Opera, but it was not. They wrote and produced a different version with some original pieces, but the entirely was different. Still it was an incredible show and my teenage sons enjoyed the performance too, which is hard to please teenagers. It was comical, sad, and intense. The performers did an amazing job performing the musical. Couple other call outs I wasn't aware of: No photography during the show. They do have a concession stand to purchase soda, waters, and treats. No dress code, you can go casual attire or dress up. I even seen a couple men with baseball caps on. read more

The show was enjoyable, entertaining, and technically sound. I can't give a "5" because an unwell person vomited behind us prior to the show. The staff's kind attempts to disinfect every thirty minutes didn't kill the smell. And... the unwell person stayed during the show with a bag in hand in case there was a second wave. I have never seen a show here that I haven't left raving about to all of my friends. I have seen shows here that I have liked more than shows I have seen on Broadway in New York! The actors and actresses are absolutely phenomenal. They are incredibly talented and cast very well. The two best shows I have seen so far have been Aida and The Scarlet Pimpernel. I preferred the singing voices of these actors to the ones on the original cast recordings. And that is saying something!! But what will really get you at this theater are THE SETS!!! They have got sets descending from the ceiling and ascending up from beneath the floor. It is astounding to watch. The costumes are also extravagant and absolutely beautiful. You will not be sad that you came here!! My only complaint--I am not excited for their 2019 show list. I was determined to get season tickets this year, but there aren't enough shows to tempt me.
