North Shore outing, we stopped by here to relax, get some sun and my boys went snorkeling. Perfect day, water not too high or choppy. My boy saw needlefishes and other small ocean life. Parking is limited. They have showers to rinse off.

Lovely beach park with facilities. Quiet for the most part and yes, we saw turtles not only swimming in the water, but sun bathing on the beach! Absolutely magical!

(Visited 05/21/23 SU @ 1:00pm): All hail for a lazy day exploring this North Shore town and its beach park that translates to the "house of the frigate bird". After an early morning dim sum meal with fellow Yelpers, a friend and I decided to continue our lazy Sunday and made an afternoon excursion to O'ahu's North Shore Hale'iwa Town and relaxed on Hale'iwa Beach Park. The weather was beautiful, we've already been up for hours, had a decent amount of food in our bellies, so now it was time to get into the car and just drive. My friend had never been to this town which was one of my favorites on the island, so it seemed like the perfect opportunity to show her around. Would she find this as charming of a place as I did!? EXPERIENCE After we drove for nearly 45 minutes, we finally arrived to Hale'iwa Town and crawled through the one-road thoroughfare as we took in all the sights and sounds until we parked the car, and calmly walked out to the warm sand, made our way to the water where we kicked around, looked at the coral and rocks, sneaked a peek at a few small fishes, and then we plopped ourselves back onto the shore and chilled. We soon got back on our feet and walked towards town as we spied shops, landmarks https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=8jVT2inwc8GIQ6sH2UG9Vw&start=0&select=waC0yG76xSfH9-fzhm9xPg of days gone by, watched people, and made our way to some shave ice -- twice! It was nice to see the Bob Marley mural https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=8jVT2inwc8GIQ6sH2UG9Vw&start=0&select=m6myHUiopGz70P044j9X5g which was here the last time I visited. Eventually, we walked back to the car as we planned for one more exploration before sunset. SERVICE I saw nothing in the way of service-oriented amenities such as bathrooms or lifeguards (I saw trash cans, though), so be prepared. However, if you were in town, there were plenty of businesses and public restrooms that were relatively clean at your disposal. PARKING (FREE) We easily parked in the lot next to the beach and then walked back into town as we explored around. Otherwise, if you were lucky you found a spot along the main drag of Hale'iwa Rd. or one of the few lots - "nuff said. ATMOSPHERE, DÉCOR, AMBIENCE The beach - located at one end of the small town - was clean, spacious, more long than wide, there were a handful of families and sunbathers, and with limited shady foliage and trees https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=8jVT2inwc8GIQ6sH2UG9Vw&start=24&select=W4R7nsSzOQpW2Ugyfy--uQ to protect you from the sun. I really didn't notice any waves, but there were visible coral and rocks that pierced the water. This beach was more for low water activity (i.e. paddleboarding, snorkeling, swimming, wading). No benches, chairs, or tables, so bring your own chairs or towels to lay or sit on. As for the town, it was very quaint yet busy with its lone artery https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=8jVT2inwc8GIQ6sH2UG9Vw&start=0&select=JEaYA75nfFvAnH_k9E-IFA of a main road, plenty of local businesses for dining and retail, an odd amount of art galleries, and great walkability. Obviously, there was plenty of natural lighting with the glowing stars and street lights left to guide you when night time came. There were no TVs while the surround sound of cars, conversations, and commerce filled the air. https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=8jVT2inwc8GIQ6sH2UG9Vw&start=24&select=s_Zw9Q_xavBJjQnq8vcWZg ATTIRE Totally casual, so I would normally be in a t-shirt, boardshorts, and flip-flops. OVERALL A lovely afternoon was spent at Hale'iwa Beach Park and Hale'iwa Town with my friend, and I definitely will return on the next visit to the island. Honestly, how could you not like this place away from the hustle and bustle of the big cities? Granted, this place continued to become more of a tourist destination for good reasons. However, on this given weekend day, I was thankful for the relative peacefulness and solitude. I found complete value based on the prices, service, and experience noted above (TOTAL paid experience was around $0.00 BEFORE any discounts and/or tip). And, there was no need for funds of any kind which included my credit card of choice... AMEX! 5.0 STARS

Love this beach, not too crowded, lots of honu, lots of parking, bathrooms, what more can you ask for. It's not like Waikiki beach, that's for sure. There is also a basketball court as well. I always come here when I visit Oahu. It is also close to town so you can go there before or after the beach. Can't wait to come back..........

My kids really LOVE this beach. Not many tourist at this beach. Which is cool and it's not over packed. Love the vibe of the locals. You can jet ski which we did here. Some locals fishing or boating. They have a area where you can jump off a stick kinda dangerous but that's the risk.

May 2024, beach day with the family before heading back to Texas. Haleiwa beach is beautiful but rocky. Great for paddle boarding but bring a tent as there is no shade around here. We stayed till sunset and it was worth the wait. Watch out for flies when cooking, and bring trash bag for your trash. North Shore is walking distance for a quick stroll when you need a break from the beach. Parking is limited

Beautiful Sunday! Nice and breezy! Clean bathroom at the building where lifegaurds are located. Come early for parking.

This is a pretty small quiet north Shore beach. There's parking and a restroom/change area that was clean and enough Beach to lay out your stuff. It's not big and there's not really space for activities, but we got some sun and plenty of sand in our hair, so it did the job.

    1. Parking was easy 2. Tons of shady spots to hide from that beating sun 3. Great place to picnic and spend the day. Pack snacks! 4. Bathrooms!

A peaceful beach park that is relatively clean with a couple of provided facilities. The park includes basketball and volleyball courts plus a playground. Bathrooms and a foot washing stations are available as well. The Haleiwa Beach Park War Memorial landmark is stationed here, and the concrete structures add a nice touch. There is a public parking lot with abundant spots. So empty that we saw the bizarre sight of a person absentmindedly driving their pickup truck in circles around the lot a good portion of the time during our visit.

Love this place! Recently came here to surf after someone's recommendation. Parking was very easy to find in the lot. The beach was not super crowded on a Saturday. There are 2 normal bathrooms in the park, not portapotties. There are also multiple outdoor showers to rinse off! The waves are absolutely awesome! Nice shapes and sometimes fast but definitely easy to surf. There were plenty of kids in the water too. Nice grassy area for kids to play and suntan. Well maintained, very pretty, clean park. Highly recommend!

One of the best places to watch the sunset! I recently spend my last night on Oahu at this park. What am amazing beach. This beach is perfect for surfing, snorkeling, or beach bumming. This park does not have bbq, but is bbq friendly. There are pit where hot coals can be deposited.

Haleiwa on the north shore of Oahu is one of my favorite beaches / waves anywhere. Always humbled when the surf is over 8' and getting pulled through the lineup out of position by the sting current. So many good local surfers who tolerate us visitors as they absolutely rip this epic right hander. At size Haleiwa is the ultimate performance wave and challenges even the best surfers. *showers and restrooms are well maintained *several good restaurants walking distance including Haleiwa Joe's *marina next to beach park is cool short walk to see what the charter boats bring in from fishing *free parking but get there early as parking lot fills fast *when surf is down good swim beach for keikis (kids) near lifeguard stand

Are there any fishing spots here that I can enjoy with my 7 year old son? Thanks for any answers.

Yes... there is a man made kind of waterway by the bridge side of the beach that people fish off of and I actually seen people catch fish there. Good luck.

On the Tuesday early afternoon we went, the waters were rough with 30 to 40 ft waves. As a result, the beach was taped off as a safety measure. Is there such a thing as a hidden gem in Hawaii?…read more This place comes very close to it. While Wifey and I were exploring North Shore after having crossed off Giovanni's Shrimp Truck and Matsumoto's Shave Ice from our bucket list, we needed a place to wind down and relax. We drove along Kamehameha Highway and pulled into Kahalewai Place and found a parking spot along the side road. One thing we noticed right away that it seems to a a local spot and there weren't too many tourists around, even though we were up in North Shore. We walked towards the beach and followed some people with surfboards in tow. I could see a bunch of locals out by the beach on their paddle boards and surfboards, and most of them were kids and young adults. It seems to be the local surf spot for beginners as the waves were pretty tame, but it was consistent with the North Shore winds behind them. It also seems to a be a good fishing spot for locals as there was a Filipino family enjoying themselves having a picnic. I got into a conversation with one of the local fisherman (P. Sherman), who told me what types of fish he was catching and how to cook 'em. He showed me his bucket of his catches of the day, and they were enough to feed his family. He didn't have to, but he was nice enough to let me take photos of him as he was more than accommodating. I thanked him for his time and appreciated his hospitality with my intrusion on his daily life. We explored the area some more as there were trails to follow, but there were also "Private Property" signs posted everywhere. I was beginning to wonder if Mark Zuckerberg bought half of this place with all those signs around. But we skirted around it as we went around the beach and enjoyed the relaxed vibe and energy of the beach. We also liked that it wasn't very crowded compared to the hustle and bustle on the main strip of Haleiwa as it felt like a cocoon shielded us from that source. We could have spent more time on this beach, but we wanted to see and experience as much as possible on the North Shore of Hawaii. Definitely a place you could spend a day at if you were a local.

Crashing Wave over Rocks. This could be a name of a cocktail drink. It will definitely have coconut in it.

The trail was very easy to find, just search for the trail on google maps and the map will lead you to the parking lot next to Dillingham Airfield (look for "West Gate). After parking, head towards the mountain to get to the trailhead. It took us 1 1/2 hours to the covered picnic table, mostly because we were pausing for water breaks and photos with the kids. Tips: wear plenty of sunscreen, a hat, and bring LOTS of water. It gets hot!

Nice little trail on the north shore…read more You park at the dillingham airport and the trailhead is across the street. Not hard to find. The first half mile is shaded switchbacks. The mile after that is exposed. It sort of reminded me of hikes in SoCal. The gradient isn't too bad because of the switchbacks but you are going up about 1000' in like 1.5 miles. So the climbing can feel a bit relentless. No scrambling over rocks and other obstacles like some other Oahu hikes. I thought it was fairly easy. I think anyone in decent shape won't have any issues. For those who are just beginning your fitness journey, this would probably be a good workout. The trail is easy to follow. Very little chance of you getting lost (at least to the picnic table which was my turn around point). It's very rocky but walking/hiking isn't an issue. Trail Runners: I saw some other trail runners but this wouldn't be my first choice trail on the north shore. The switch backs don't go on long enough to get any sort of rhythm after the half mile point. And while I wouldn't say this is the most technical of runs, you definitely have to pay attention. I went super slow on the decent for my first time. I may go back and go past the picnic table to see what's up there but I'd say skip this if you're a runner. Hikers will like it I think. And it wasn't too crowded. I saw a handful of people on my run. The views are ok. There are definitely much more scenic views on Oahu but these weren't bad by any means.
