I've been through braces and fillings and root canals, etc. I literally have fallen asleep in the adult chair because I have absolutely no fear as I've already experienced the worst they could possibly happen in a dentist's office. I have never in all of my life, experienced a dental practice and a dentist that is as invested and meticulous about my teeth as I am about my health in general. I have had major health issues - very nearly died of lupus - that made me even more acutely aware that, as this amazing dentist said, the mouth is the gateway to health or illness. I have done my homework in saving my own life and literally have doing the "impossible" as a patient at Stanford in putting my autoimmune disease in remission for over three years now. My husband said they pressured him to have the ultrasonic teeth grinder and then tried to upsell him on some stuff which neither of us had ever experienced and he was really surprised and weirded out. Then I got a call from some guy who I didn't know (Cari is the second reason why I went there, she was family) and he was just like, "Oh Susan is not available, you will be getting Ashley." Ummm what? So let me get this straight. You move offices further away. Yay for you for needing to add doctors to the staff, but then you (Niven) also leave and now I have Dr. Skahen, random doctors, and random hygienists who want to treat me like a burger on a conveyor belt and sell me some swag? I swear it felt like a family divorce. I had been going to Watson Niven for over twenty years and my husband nearly twenty years. I requested my records be transferred to a new office and they get me/us. They take their time like Susan used to so that they can ensure our comfort during a process most people hate. Many more than I care to admit. I can't say where my dental stress/anxiety stemmed from exactly or how it got to the point of avoiding routine visits, but it did--to the point that I felt physically ill going into my first appt with Dr. Taylor a few months ago, but I had no choice, because I ended up with a very painful, swollen spot on my gums and knew I needed to get everything taken care of finally. From that first visit with Dr. Taylor and her assistant, Stephanie, my stress decreased immensely, visit by visit. Stephanie is warm, calm, and kind. Dr. Taylor is incredibly energetic and chipper--in the best way. She told me numerous times that I'd be just fine...I just needed to get everything squared away and I'd be as good as new. She never once made me feel guilty or ashamed of the amount of work I needed done or how it got to that point. She never lectured me--I'm an adult, and I knew what I should have been doing, but I just wasn't mentally/emotionally able for a period of time, and I think the lectures were exactly what I was dreading, so I was grateful that they never came. Every time, she would just casually and cheerfully remind me that they were glad I was there, and that everything I needed done was no big deal; that I'd be just fine once it was taken care of. I didn't really believe her at first, I'll be honest. I thought I had created so much damage with my lack of care, that there was no way my mouth would ever feel normal again. Turns out, she knows what she's doing, and she was right. A deep cleaning to deal with my initial issues, 2 root canals (one done by Dr. Taylor and one referred out), 2 crowns, and a bunch of fillings later, I absolutely feel normal again--better than normal. I still need my wisdom teeth out at some point, but I feel mentally able to conquer that after all my "practice" here. I also now look forward to the point when I can start Invisalign (where I previously avoided it my entire adult life because I would do anything to avoid additional dental work if I could). I'm so thankful to have found this office, and I feel confident I can keep up with everything from here on out with their help, and that's such a relief! Many, many thanks!
