Keep moving if you come by here thinking you might go in. Had a top sirloin that was half shoe leather and half gristle. And shoe leather would have been a better choice. Salad (huge bowl of iceberg lettuce) had 1 piece of tomato, a little bit of cheese, 4 mini carrots straight out of the bag and really bad onions on top. Lots of loud people and nobody paying any attention to the dinner guests. I would STRONGLY suggest stay away from here - the food is NOT WORTH IT. read more

Hi I would just like to say that today me and my girl went out to eat at hales steakhouse for breakfast and it just sucked. They're fake eggs taste nasty and when I requested my eggs to be over medium and when I got them they were barely over easy the white was just too runny I thought that they could do better at there breakfast . Alright so this is my second review, the last was about 4 years ago. We've been here multiple times in the past 2 months. The food is ok, i got cold eggs and old and cold French toast...my husband raved over the chicken fried steak - Which was very yummy along with the filet mignon and coconut shrimp! But Lord dont go Sunday mornings! They reserve every sunday morning the front tables for these "very important" motorcycle enthusiasts of the town...(insert massive eye roll - get over yourself) and you will wait for a table for a while-even if the "club" isn't using the table. Anyways. The food is good sometimes if it's not cold and old. Go when its not busy! Its defiantly worth it then! read more

Definitely wasn't impressed. Went here twice service is sub par at bar. I had a steak one night was more like a piece of London broil, McDonalds could make a better steak. Then the second night got charged a $1 Visa CC fee....are you kidding me obviously the location might have history, but history isn't cooking the food or servicing the guests anymore. If your from out of town for work take my advice nothing special. Two stars for a large beer on tap. read more

I have given Hales so many chance. I have been back many times but decided after my last visit I would never go back there for anything more than a beer. I have never ordered a meal that I have not had to send back, sometimes more than once, and when it does come back it is never right. No taste in any meal I've ever gotten and the steaks, well just don't even attempt getting a steak. I do like one of the waitresses there, she is the only reason I will even go back for a beer. read more

Love this place. I spend a few nights in Hermiston each year and I visit for dinner at least two of those nights.

Hale's Tavern is a wretched abomination of God if not a horrific portal to hell. Our first experience was even sub-par for a Truck Stop with a barely palatable rib-eye served on a plastic plate with paper napkins and utensils as thin and flimsy as tin cans; the pasta sauce was obviously out of a jar and would be put to better use as caulking material or any other sort of adhesive paste for that matter. The servers were all coasting on auto-pilot, repeating catch phrases in a deadpan, monotonous tone like sleep-walking zombies completely void of any vigor or verve...they clearly couldn't care less. Our second experience was a total nightmare. Though understandably busy due to the neighboring town's annual rodeo extravaganza, most restaurants have the good sense to actually capitalize on high volume and turn it up a notch. Sadly this very basic concept is totally foreign and abstract to the knuckle-draggers running this dumpy monstrosity called Hale's. My date ordered the spaghetti and meatballs that made her violently ill for days from food poisoning and when she finally returned to work to report her misfortune, she soon discovered that food poisoning is a regular occurrence and to be expected at this over-rated shanty. I was hoping to play it safe and chose the standard cheeseburger and fries, with a simple request to cook the burger medium rare. The fries were obviously from Sysco and the meat was a dry, charred strip of leather (or some kind of other animal hide, most likely road kill if I had to guess). How does a restaurant that specializes in meat magically botch a cheeseburger and fries exactly? How is it even possible? I've had far better fare in hospital cafeterias and on airplanes in third-world countries. Not only is Hale's Tavern completely disgusting, but ridiculously over-priced. I suppose they can easily fleece the unsuspecting geezers and churlish bumpkins that seem to scarf it all down without even flinching. $100 dates aren't supposed to leave a bad taste in your mouth, give you indigestion let alone bring you to wrap your arms around the porcelain bowl once you get home. One would think, one would hope that there could at least be a proper steakhouse in this region, considering the ranches for as far as the eye can see. If you're seeking massive disappointment and digestive problems, be my guest....Hale's Tavern is the perfect place for you! read more

Pick one: Service, Quality, Speed, Portion Size. (Hint: it's not the first three). Hale's has never been great. OK at best. Today it was absolute garbage. Slow service, bland food, the coffee was flavored lukewarm water at best, CFS had no flavor (how can this be a thing? What cooking process is used to nullify flavor?), waffle was overcooked, and this is par for the course at Hale's. Google a recipe, make it at home, and save yourself the trouble. There's nothing and nowhere in Hermiston to eat breakfast (except Chuckwagon Cafe. They manufacture a decent breakfast with good portions and prices and prompt service). If you like Hale's, if you work at Hale's, please visit a place that has good food (you'll have to travel at least an hour away) and do something about this sorry excuse for food. read more

Been here several times. Tried their steaks, and prime rib. Very bad. I'm from Portland and am stuck in this conservative, churchy people town, absolutely nowhere to part after ten, that's beside the point, sorry. People here love and recommend this place. Prime rib is awful, unless you just love the covering of big chunks of rosemay... Absolutely polluted the entire dish. Thought I'd try again w/ family, a couple of us ordered rib-eye, and a NY strip. This is like expired Walmart meat. I've never in my life had a rib-eye so bad and chewy(though flavor was kinda there, but simplistic) get ready to try to chew each bite for like a full minute- which was reported similar on the NY. We usually come here after football playoff games that Hermiston High School hosts. After our most recent visit we probably won't be back. They seemed to be overwhelmed with a crowd. Our waitress was non-existent, was hiding in the kitchen, only seen her when she took our food order and to pay our bill. There was a younger waitress who picked up her slack, she sat us, took our drink orders and made her self available for drink refills and lack of silverware and napkins etc. Our food came out about 15 mins apart, I ordered a beef philly, got a chicken philly. When I sent it back, the roast beef in the new philly was ice cold. We also had an order of briskette that was ice cold as well. We had the feeling that we were a burden being there. Usually it's a pretty good place and portions on most cases make up for any service or quality issues. This was not the case this time. read more

Passing through Hermiston I was craving a pulled pork sandwich and thought this place, that specializes in BBQ would have one, but to my surprise it didn't. I ended up settling on a much healthier choice, cream of asparagus soup and salad. The portion was decent, although the meal itself was nothing special. Perhaps next time I will go for one of their many sandwiches/burgers and be impressed. Until then, besides the friendly hospitality this place was average. read more

Hales was highly recommended by several people and we made plans to go here with friends. I as usual checked the reviews and started to worry if I was making the right decision (after reading reviews about food poisoning). As you can see from the 4 star rating I was quite happy with the food. I ordered Country pork (with fries) after searching the 5 page menu for what seemed like forever. Both of the guys ordered steaks. We were all quite happy with our dinner. We all thought the cuts were good as was the taste. The servings were HUGE and all three of us ended up with take out boxes. The service was good as they weren't that busy. However the waitress/bartender did spend a lot of time talking with friends and it did take several minutes to get her attention for another drink. I ordered a house whiskey with coke and I would say it had more whiskey than coke in it and it wasn't the best whiskey (many places I've been around here the house whiskey actually has good flavor) read more

Decent little restaurant, clean with nice staff. But the cooks obviously don't read there tickets. I ordered my burger without onions and it came with onions on it, a big pet peeve of mine especially when the hostess wrote the order, now i did hear the hostess go back in the kitchen and rip the cook. I ordered prime rib medium rare got my dinner it was medium well to well done, so I sent it back and that's all they said they had is that cut. Okay so I was craving fish and chips so I went to Hales for some takeout. Ordered the halibut and fries. Again the staff is very great and I like the atmosphere ..talked to one of the cooks he's super nice.. but when I got home the fries seems like they've been cooked in old oil and the three pieces of fish were so small it was almost a joke I paid 12.45 because I used a debit card they added a dollar, anywhooo. I just suggest not getting that. I hear great reviews about their steaks and their breakfast an their hamburgers ..I just wouldn't get the fish and chips just my opinion. On another note I was kind of annoyed because I send many people to their restaurant cuz I work at a hotel. i mean LOTs!!! Year 'round. Friendly servers. The food is just okay for most menu options. A few times the food has been really amazing but I would say that's the exception not the rule. I've never had anything terrible. Bad service, rude server. Bad food presentation. They don't know how to cook baked potatoes. I had high hopes and was unpleasantly disappointed. We stopped here on our way home from Pendleton to grab a quick bite before the drive back to Cornelius. We ended up not wanting to leave because we had such a great time. When you give 5 stars it says "as good as it gets" This is so true, have not had much better service anywhere! Portions were huge! Price was great for the portion size! Food quality was as good as it gets. I had the 20 oz prime rib it was cooked to perfection! Everyone's food was the same. The service was beyond awesome. Our waitress was helpful, made recommendations, was quite frank on answering questions on food quality. The parking lot was packed when we showed up and stayed that way all the time! If you leave here hungry it is your fault! As far as the bad reviews here, take them with a grain of salt. Our waitress was so awesome my wife had to have her picture taken with her! read more
