TLDR... eat at own risk, severe food poisoning after eating their burger on "special." Not a bad spot if you are just looking for a beer and to gamble. Service is not the best but if you go enough to be recognized you will have better luck. You can watch your food sit in the service window for extended periods while the bar staff chats with their friends or each other. None of this ever bothered me because I understood we are in a local spot a slight step above a dive. Food was always mediocre but again it was on par with my understanding of the place... until yesterday. I got a simple burger and a side since burgers were $2 off. It tasted ok; what you'd expect from a frozen patty joint. A few hours later I was violently ill. Eat here at your own risk. We stayed for one night in Umatilla as we were passing through the area and it was the first game of the season for the Green Bay Packers so we were in search of a sports bar. We called Midway to see if they had the NFL Ticket and, low and behold, they actually did! Shouldn't be shocking but you'd be surprised how many little sports bars, do not. Anyway, we were pleasantly surprised by our visit to this Hermiston bar and grill! 1) Adequate parking 2) Clean dining room with loads of tables and lots of TVs 3) Friendly, informative and efficient service 4) The pricing was good, the food was tasty bar food I had a tasty Bloody Mary, my husband and I shared the poutine appetizer and then we shared the fried chicken wrap with jojos. Heads up...they're potato wedges...not the sliced, breaded and fried round potato slices which we know as jojos and we prefer. Had been traveling all day. Husband remembered stopping here 8 yrs ago, so we decided to stop. Sat at a table, patiently waiting for maybe even just an acknowledgement that we were seen. NOPE. My husband went to the bar to order and a gal came over with menus. Took our drink order. I've never been in a bar that serves a greyhound in a pounder glass (16oz). Our food order was taken. She could not tell us the price of the special, could not tell us how many gizzards in an order. Said they were by weight. Had no clue how much they weighed, nor was she willing to go ask. Gizzards were so over cooked, they were chewy. The coleslaw tasted as though it was on the last day or perhaps a day past its pull date. One bite and that was a strong no. Asked for some horseradish and some ranch. She never came with it. We found a gal at the bar to get it for us. More irritating is the fact that while she should have been getting the ranch she was busy chatting about her family at another table. As an observation from a "secret shopper" who goes in to establishments all over the western states, as well as a retired bartender, let me suggest a few things: Always acknowledge your customers even if it's "be there as soon as I can guys", stay focused on the tasks at hand. You will find that you make far more in tips. The owner needs some refresher or training for the cook in the back when it comes to the fryer. An Auto fry, while very pricey will pay for itself in satisfied customers and give you a great food reputation. To all servers, if it's overwhelming, consider another career. If it's an off day, ask to be pulled from the floor or perhaps trade a shift. Working in a bar should be fun! I may try again at this location one day, just to be fair. Midway Bar & Grill absolutely nailed it. This was the first place we stopped after moving to Hermiston, and it honestly set the tone perfectly for our first night in town. Great vibes, friendly people, and food that hits the spot--it felt like the perfect welcome. The servers were extremely attentive from the moment we walked in. They got us seated and served quickly, but never made us feel rushed. Just smooth, professional, and genuinely kind service all around. The food was amazing--huge portions at prices that really make sense. It's hearty, satisfying, and you can tell they don't skimp on quality or flavor. What's even better? They have rotating daily specials that keep things fresh and affordable, which we'll definitely be taking advantage of now that we're locals. We walked in and the host said "feel free to seat yourself anywhere." So we sat ourselves at a high top across from the bar. Even if it was Michelin star quality food, it would not excuse the non-attentive wait staff. We sat for 20 minutes and then had to walk up to the bar to ask for menus and let the wait staff know we were there. We ordered our food but not even the attempt to ask for refills or another beer. Terrible service. She did apologize for the wait but this still does not excuse her lack of attention. She didn't even notice how my tacos came without chips but all the other taco orders came with chips. I don't recommend this place unless you want to wait an hour for your cold tacos and have to chase down your server for another beer. So thanks for nothing Andrea at midway. The meat was almost like a jerky texture. The finger steaks basket the finger steaks weren't like the normal finger steaks they usually have and soggy. Both sets of fries were cold and extremely soggy. Our whole meal was super cold. Went in for a takeout order last weekend and boy I've never been treated so poorly by h the heir staff. I walked in to order and expected to be greeted by someone. I sat down at first stool in their bar and was totally ignored. There was one bar tender and she was standing just a few feet away chatting with two of the four other people at the bar. I finally waived her over and asked if I could place a To go order and how long it would take. Whitney did place my order and poured me a beer. I waited well over the " twenty minutes " drank my beer and watched as other orders went out. All the time noticing a box and container sitting there waiting to be picked up. I finally asked another employee if she could see if that was my order. She asked who had first helped me, I pointed towards Whitney who was still behind the bar attending to others. Well it was my order and I was able to get helped and out I went. My only regret was that when paying for the order when placed I tipped Whitney to insure prompt service. Boy was I wrong. She saw me there and not once followed up with her customer service. This place can be busy but it wasn't that busy at the bar that she couldn't have followed up. Was in back in July of 2017. Myself and a couple of guys were off post running some errands and were in uniform (US Army). It was late morning and the waitress was nice-enough; the place wasnt busy. Fantastic place!!! It's huge inside! The staff was top notch and as a soda lover, I loved it even more. They give you a mini pitcher for your soda so you are not waiting on refills often. I ordered the boneless wing app as my meal with a side of fries. I thought they were going to be a small order so I ordered the fries. I was wrong. It came with a large order of wings and it took everything I had to finish them all. The wings were cooked well and did not have the usual hard crunchy coating on them. They were delicious! Had our ID checked upon entering by bartender and once we sat down our ID was checked again. we informed our server that our ID had already been checked and she says she needs to see them because she is our server. Upon telling us the specials we were told we had to wait for her to put orders in until after 5:00 (It was 4:59). She told us about "bar time" which is 15 minutes delayed. Nobody uses that back home although I had heard of it. My co-worker mentioned that he had never heard of it and our server says "when you are the owner you can do whatever you want". I informed my co-worker I was not eating. He decided to order wings at regular menu price but when he asks for a couple of different sauces...Surprise, our server informed him that this was impossible because they have to shake the wings up.
