    Half chef salad

We had been here a few yrs back. Came in for breakfast today. I just had two poached eggs and English muffin with peanut butter. They have a rib eye breakfast special so he got the steak a la carte and a small chef salad. Service is great and so is everything else!! Wow. The steak ( oops no pix) was fabulous. Cause I got three bites he he. And the 1000 dressing has a bit of a horseradish flavor he said. It's good. A good stop on a tues morning!

Chicken Fried Steak with Mashed Potatoes, Corn and optional Sausage Gravy from Crossroads Truck Stop, Umatilla, Oregon.

Road Trip 2014 and we're in Umatilla, Oregon on the way to Portland. Where to eat, where to eat? There aren't a ton of choices in Umatilla so we looked at Yelp, flipped a coin and ended up at Crossroads Truck Stop. They have a Mini-Mart, Lounge and Diner. It was a tad confusing when we entered the restaurant. We saw the counter seating and some folks sitting in booths. We looked at them and they looked at us, but no employees to be seen. We walked in a bit deeper and saw a cook sitting at a table, probably on his break and two servers, one at the register, counting money. We asked if we should just seat ourselves and we were told to do so. We waited a couple of minutes before one of the servers said that she'd be right with us. It became apparent to us that we had walked in during shift change. Once things got rolling, we were pleasantly surprised. Service was friendly and adequate for a diner environment. A little polish would definitely make our server an all-star. The food was surprisingly excellent! I had a dinner portion of Chicken Fried Steak with Mashed Potatoes, Corn and the optional Sausage Gravy. The steak nearly covered the plate, it was so large. Perfectly breaded and covered with a peppery sausage gravy. The corn and accompanying garlic bread were merely bystanders in a sea of goodness. She had the Fried Chicken with French Fries and Corn. There were also four half-slices of white toast that didn't really seem to belong since there was no butter or sauce. Regardless, the Fried Chicken was terrific. Even the Breast piece was moist. The crust was crunchy and well seasoned. The French Fries were right out of the fryer and hot and crispy. Oh yes. Each meal was served with your choice of Soup or Salad. I took the Chicken Noodle Soup and she got a Mixed Green Salad. Neither was particularly special but both were good. In spite of our usually large appetites, we both ended up with leftovers.

Mom n pop truck stop just across the Wa. Line. Restaurant was what I expected as far as interior food was much better than expected! Large portions and cooked perfectly. Drove past here many times but never stopped, won't make that mistake again! Waitresses were very nice and service was good.

Went into the Lucky Dog bar to watch the last of the Oregon Nebraska and the bar tender was not friendly at all she might have been having a bad but at lest don't show it to your customers. It's a nice place with a decent selection of alcohol also it has lottery games.

Hot diggity! I found me sum fried buh-ree-tohs. They come in all flavors like BBQ, bean and cheese, beef and cheese, chicken and cheese, and my favorite: beef and bean. For $1.69 you can get your hands on a mean bean burrito. Doesn't get any better than that! Heck, they even got a bar called The Ugly Dog Lounge. They weren't open when I went so Imma have to dock them a star.

    Delicious homecooked food.

Like the food. Sometimes it seems a little dirty. Just wish that Umatilla had a another family friendly place. Too bad Amanda's closed.

Try the brisket! Beans are home made some of the best I've had. The diner is pretty plain. Service was attentive.

The bar is long, with pictures of all the Pendleton Round-Up lining one wall. The place is a fascinating time capsule. Way in the back, beyond the bar and the pool table, a very small dining room with counter service and several humble booths are tucked away next to the kitchen. It's old, and proud of it. I've only eaten there twice; I once had a great breakfast there many years ago with my son. The portions were generous, the service was excellent, and as American style breakfasts go, it was about as good as they get. It's not "inspired food." It's the standard stuff, and there's something comforting about that. It's Americana at it's best. The second time was my birthday, and again, I was there with my son. It was evening. When we got there, we were the only ones occupying the cafe. It looked exactly as it had 20-plus years ago. My son ordered a hamburger and fries. Again, no trendy toppings or fuss, just very fresh, very well prepared hearty fare...exactly what we were looking for. I had their "famous" fried chicken. it was without hesitation, some of the best I'd ever tasted. It came with jo-jos, a salad, and garlic bread. It was all excellent, and almost too much food. If you enjoy old school dining in a small town cafe, it's going to be hard to beat the Rainbow Cafe and Bar.

We tried to go to breakfast this morning at 10:18 am and were told they were not serving breakfast and we could wait until 11 for lunch. This is not the first time we have struggled with wait times. First, I understand you have to serve food and have it available at a drinking establishment. Secondly, why are you turning prospective patrons that want to eat and drink. We used to go there every Sunday as a family, it was a meeting place for friends and family. The last two times we ate there it was 1 1/2 or 2 hours before we got fed. This is heartbreaking. It's our 'Cheers'. Please do better!
