Mixed review. I'll start with the negatives first, the food honestly wasn't anything to write home about especially for the prices. The apps were just OK we had the pretzel and soup, but our main dishes weren't great. The fish tacos with corn salad side were tasteless. Wait staff could also use improvement, no one was happy or energetic to be serving you. The drinks on the other hand were really good! Fresh margaritas were made to perfection. The atmosphere was nice and clean as well. I would give this a 3.5 and just go back for drinks and the music. We won't be coming back for dinner. read more

Half moon was such a beautiful restaurant and the staff was really friendly. Shout out to Leah. Loved the pretzel, cheese sauce was a little watery. I would swap that cheese sauce out for a different one. Drinks were great and loved the sangria. Next time I go, I'm definitely going to try the other cocktails. Fries were fantastic. My meal was a rigatoni dish with a meat sauce and ricotta cheese. The noodles were cold and the dish ended up watery probably from the ricotta. But really I enjoyed the environment, drinks and my boyfriends food. Seeing that the owner looks at this, I honestly have to say the people that work there look like they truly care about this spot. If you don't like your dish, just say something and I'm sure they care more about the experience you have than the cost of your meal. It's worth the price, you don't often find great service like this and there was nothing bc I would say would stop me from going again. I'd go back for sure. read more

I live in North Jersey and took a ride down the shore for the day. Someone had mentioned a new place that recently opened named Half Moon. It's located Just across the street from the beach in keansburg. Super cute restaurant with an outside patio bar. Super quaint atmosphere with a horseshoe bar right in the middle, surrounded by tables, that were very unique. There is an outside deck with a good few tables if you like to eat outside. The staff was absolutely amazing from the hostess to the bar back, who had to go to the kitchen to get the jalapeños for my spicy margarita (which by the way was not on the menu, but the bartender was gracious enough to indulge me). I digress! We started with the fried calamari - one of my all time favorite appetizers. Outstanding!! Fresh, Crispy and cooked to perfection! I had the fish tacos which were outstanding. Three street style mahi tacos with the right amount of heat and a corn salsa on the side, which helps take the delicious heat down. My friend had one of the specials, a Christmas in July burger. It was a turkey burger with a cranberry aioli cooked to perfection and a side of - get this - stuffing fries!!! Seriously?!?! Just wow! Our whole experience was amazing! PSA... DO NOT BRING YOUR KIDS unless they are silent you will basically be asked TO LEAVE!!!! I made 5:15 reservations for my family with a 4 & 2 year old. We arrived to an empty restaurant with a few people at the bar, we ordered drinks and food (more expensive items NY Strip Steak, Lobster Mac, Shrimp, Drinks etc). While we waited my children were playing with their toys at the table (bc we try not to put them on iPads when out to eat) someone from the kitchen came out and asked us to have them be quiet because someone at the bar was complaining. For people that have small children know this is not so easy to do, which is why we try to go out in-between 5-5:30pm. At that point it made my husband and I extremely uncomfortable/unwelcomed; they didn't actually make us leave. He did try to be very polite about the entire thing but we knew we were not wanted there so we immediately left and offered to pay for the drinks offered which they told us not to worry about. This was our first experience and it will certainly be our LAST (with or without kids). If you want to cater to people drinking the cheapest happy hour drinks and ordering no food at the bar instead of families spending significantly more looking for new places to go then that's up to you..it's your business. My family lives 5 minutes away and this could have been somewhere my family frequented over the summer but there are plenty of other places in the area that will not treat families this way and are happy to have the business. We have been too TONS of restaurants in the area, many which are higher end places then Half Moon and have NEVER had this happen. To the owner of this restaurant I regret to inform you that it is in Keansburg down the street from the boardwalk full of rides/games and if you wish to not have children at your establishment this should be mentioned prior to making reservations. I did feel bad for the waiter as we had absolutely no issue with him, and ultimately the staff suffers from poor business decisions like these. Ultimately the only people that this truly affects is the wait staff missing out on larger tips and the businesses bottom line. Maybe your restaurant wouldn't be half empty on a Friday when it's 80 degrees and located across from a beach/boardwalk if you had a different business approach and catered to a different crowd. read more

I lived in New Jersey for 35 years. I came back to visit family and based on the reviews we went to Half Moon. The food was absolutely terrible. Probably the worst I've ever had in NJ. The portions were small, the prices high and the food inedible. The tacos were dry and flavorless and tasted like they were microwaved. My son's fish tacos had about 2 oz of fish. Disgraceful. Parking is also a nightmare. Not worth the trip. read more

Amazing food Amazing Drinks Down to Earth and Friendly Staff Comfortable environment. Absolutely loved it. The only thing I noticed was underneath the one drink description that was labeled Beachway Bruh it says "Johnny O inspired" who used to be on the Keansburg Police force and had a lot of bad blood with the people of keansburg. I'm not writing this In any bad way or to trash anyone, but from the feedback I've gotten from the locals that have visited Half Moon they all said it was such a turn off to see that.
