The wine bar is elegant and appealing. The staff were outstanding and certainly well trained. The place had a real fine dining vibe. They have a happy hour deal with $6 selected drinks and half price selected appetizers. The choices are diverse from tuna tartar to a truffle oil tater tot. There are many small plate offerings. The entrée choice and salads see very appealing and from I'm told the portions are generous. I've heard chatter that the prices are a bit overzealous but don't let that deter you from a visit. This is the place you bring someone when you are trying to make an impression. Just don't show up in jeans and a tee shirt, think upscale casual. What a great find' The food, the wine and the service were spot on. It's a great location with parking. As you go up the stairs you are transported to this elegant space with luxurious couches, a gorgeous long bar and beautiful tables for dinner. It wasn't busy on this Saturday evening. The wines selection was broad. We each had a glass of Sparkling followed by two glasses of Conn Creek Cabernet Sauvignon, perfect. Had the Pork Belly Tacos (special) along with the crab cake. We met a friend her for pre-dinner drinks. The place is beautiful - lovely pale grey walls, dark floors, very contemporary. The crowd is a bit on the older side. Lots of people in their 50s. I ordered a cocktail called Coming up Roses after asking the server about it. It's made with raspberry rum, imd juice, rose water, rose petals and champagne. She promised it wouldn't be overly sweet but would be floral. It was fantastic! Just so light a refreshing! I can't recommend it enough. read more

With the exception of my scallops, which were very tasty, everything was below par. The calamari seemed frozen, which for the type of place is not good. The Wine Bar at the Atlantic Highlands is a favorite of ours to unwind and relax on the weekends. I love the atmosphere at the lounge; it is upscale without being stuffy, I would say it is relaxed elegance. The space is divided into several comfortable seating areas with couches, armchairs, side and center tables just like home, the center space is dominated by a Grand Piano. As the name indicates, they have quite an extensive wine list and to go along there is emphasis in the menu on small plates or tapas, meant to share, something that both my husband and I enjoy very much! We have attended their Happy Hour which runs from Thursday and Fridays 6-7pm and offers a selection of wines and martinis as well as small plates at $6. In addition, they have a tasting menu on Thursdays 1/2 price for half plates on all choices in their menu. Our last time there we enjoyed cold refreshing Spanish Cava accompanied with their Cold Antipasti Board and Tuna Tartare tapas. I have to say I usually like this place it's been a while since I came back. Went for drink with friends. The place was the same nice and comfy. The drinks were nice but the service was soooo bad. One bartender for the entire place and 2 waitresses. It took us 1/2 an hour to get outer first drinks. This place has everything I love! Unique décor, amazing cocktails/wine list, and super friendly/awesome staff. We came here before a dinner reservation at Christine's and were not disappointed. This was our first time here and we were pleasantly surprised by the lengthy happy hour menu that was offered to us until 7pm. There was a selection of cocktails, wines, and small plates all at very reasonable prices. To start, I had the wine bar Cosmo off the happy hour menu and my fiancé had a strawberry ginger rum drink (don't remember the exact name). They were both excellent, but his was especially good. For a second round, I had a pomegranate martini (one of the special cocktails)and he had a watermelon mojito - again both amazing. The bartender was super friendly and make each of our drinks in front of us with super fresh ingredients. Can't wait for my next excuse to get back there! read more

We ate at The Wine Bar for the first time last night. Absolutely love the bar and lounge area, and will be back with friends for cocktails and apps there. The service was attentive and friendly. The dining area is intimate with a great ambience. We had the Thursday tasting special 1/2 price for 1/2 portions to be able to try more of the menu. We started with the beet salad and mussels. The salad was good, The Chardonnay saffron sauce on the mussels was delicious! For entree we ordered 1/2 size of orecchiette, scallops and fillet mignon. All were cooked perfectly with lots of flavor. The scallops were exceptional, a perfect sear served with a very flavorful and creamy risotto. Overall it was an outstanding meal. read more

I went there for dinner with my brother and sister in law. The Atmosphere is nice. The piano man playing in the corner is a nice added touch. The overall ambiance in the wine bar area has almost a library/office feel with comfortable couches and candle light coffee tables that made for a perfect setting to converse over cocktails. We all shared various appetizers and one entree. The one that stood out are: Apps: @Duck Confit- Absolutely delicious!! @Scallops - OK nothing great. Wouldn't get again. @Tuna Tartare - pretty plain and lacked any taste of truffle oil that had us excited to order it. Entree: @Rack of Lamb - Out of this world! Highly recommend. Love the Wine Bar in Atlantic Highlands. Atmosphere is super cute, it's definitely somewhere to stop by for a happy hour. I really happen to like it for happy hour because it's trendy and sophisticated, can't get any better than $5 martinis and 1/2 price tasting platter (Thursday only). The restaurant is split in 2, half is the bar (left side) and the right side is the restaurant. I was there with my family on the night we came in and we ordered a few appetizers. We ended up getting the short rib tacos, chorizo mussels, prosciutto and buratta and calamari. Everything was super tasty, the prosciutto and buratta was delicious, loved the fresh figs as well, ingredients were definitely super high quality. Mussels were really yummy, had a little bit of a kick to them which blended well with the chorizo. Tacos also had a nice kick to them, spices were on point and the meat was very tender. Calamari was perfectly crispy and was seasoned correctly. For dinner we all got something different. I had the filet mignon, it was cooked perfectly and seasoned to perfection, absolutely amazing. However the potatoes that came with the dish were totally overwhelming. The menu notes that the potatoes are a asiago potato croquette, really they are mashed potatoes with cheese, and it tasted like blue cheese to me. it was way to much. My dad had the scallops which he really enjoyed and my husband had the bolognese which he said was good, but not great. My sister had the sirloin which she said was super salty and my mother had the lamb which she wasn't crazy about. She noted they were cut very thinly as well. Service was paced appropriately and our waitress was really friendly. We also ordered a couple of coffees, a cappuccino, tea and a latte and the sorbets which we shared. Flavors were really sweet, a little too sweet for me and the chocolate flavor was really off. One of the flavors had been replaced after we placed the order and the waitress didn't realize. She generously took the item off the bill, it was very nice of her. I really do love The Wine Bar, but I think they need to get it together with the menu a bit. Points for creativity on offering dining options that non-traditional and trendy, however some of these items really don't work and need to be rethought. If the Wine Bar was crushing it completely in the food category, this would be a 5 star review, hands down. read more

Stumbled upon the Wine Bar when staying in Atlantic Highlands one weekend. Restaurant is upper level from the Harborside Grille, only open after 6pm on Thursdays thru Saturdays. Ambiance is spectacular, nice bar area with open lounge seating...zebra couches and comfy chairs or you can sit right at the bar. Have a different weekly flight of 3 wines to try. But let's move on to dinner...it was absolutely spectacular. Our waiter was so attentive and friendly. We started with some cocktails which were fantastic, I had the key lime pie martini and it was wow. Ordered the grilled calamari appetizer. It was cooked to perfection with grape tomatoes and string beans that were lighlty coated with red wine vinegar and olive oil. Let me tell you, I ate every bit off that plate. For my main entree, I settled on the sauteed jumbo gulf shrimp...six of the big ones served over whole wheat penne and plum tomatoes in a white wine sauce. Wow again, this was just fantastic. The white wine sauce on the penne was delicious, I could have licked the bowl. And practically did. My man went with one of their fish specials, artichoke encrusted halibut that he also said was excellent, and judging by him finishing his meal before me, I'm sure it was good. Wines...didnt know what to expect, but the wines by the bottle were extremely affordable. We had a bottle of pinot grigio for $25 and I couldnt complain about that. For the most part on their wine list, the wines were under $50. Definitely will be back again! read more

Great place to come for drinks (very, very loud on weekend nights, pick slower times to enjoy place better), so, would definitely come back for drinks... The food on the other hand left so, so much to be desired. After looking at the menu, came in with high hopes of great quality food.. The Crabby Alice had almost no crab meat, the mussels were clearly frozen, overcooked...wonder why, as fresh mussels aren't hard to find.. For the entrees, we both had the seared see scallops.. Whomever created the menu needs to talk to another chef..I wondered about the beet root and goat cheese risotto that came with the scallops.. Ratio of risotto to scallops was huge, does not go together at all and risotto lacked taste, not a good idea at all.. Again, great place for drinks, cozy and romantic when it's slow, energetic and vibrant, live music when it's busy.. Food? Please take it in a positive way but either chef or menu need changing, specially for prices practiced you expect a lot better.. read more

The upstairs was all reserved for us (not sure if there is a downstairs actually) - anyways the party began in the lounge, which was a cute, well lit space - we then moved in to the restaurant space, which consisted of a number of large family-style tables. And the food! Delishhhhh. Im not a huge bread and butter person, but the merlot butter they had on deck was so delicious. The rocket arugula salad, the steak - both were very delicious. We were greeted by a very friendly server who advised we eat at the bar so because time was of the essence, we decided to split 4 tapas and they were: Pumpkin hummus, shrimp cocktail, tuna sashimi, broccoli rabe with sausage. The hummus came with raw veggies and had the perfect amount of garlic. The tuna was served on a cucumber round and was garnished with a delicious garlic aioli. I can't even describe how much we love this place. I've recently come to realize I am no longer a "loud, crowded bar/club kinda gal (for the most part). My husband and I came here for the 1st time on Valentines day, after getting matching tattoos, while it was snowing. It was just very very romantic. So charming. The staff was incredibly nice, the food was AMAZING. We sat at the bar instead of the actual restaurant section, so we ordered small. Bacon wrapped dates TO DIE FOR, shrimp cocktail, and oysters. i easily polished off 3-4 glasses of wine and my husband too it easy with 1 or 2 mixed drinks. All very tasty. The bathrooms were sparkling clean too which is alway a plus. It fills up pretty fast so we got there right at 6:00 when they opened. It's a little pricy... $8-12 for a glass of wine, and $11-18 for the small plates of food at the bar. But, it's so worth it. I can't wait to go back. Place is really cute and has great potential. Went for dinner last Saturday night. No hostess n waitstaff that was at the bar didn't even acknowledge us. We are finally seated and it took awhile for someone to come over. While we waited for drinks a waitress had picked up plates n dropped a knife to which stayed on the floor and got walked over by 3 waitresses before one picked it up. Food was good. We had made that reservation 2 weeks ago and had driven 25 minutes to be there. So you can imagine how we felt with no options at 6 on a Saturday night. My girlfriend and I were looking for place near her folks house to grab something to eat, so while searching online I found this place close by. When you walk in, it appears upscale and very classy. We were sat quickly, the wait staff was awesome and the wine was very good. I had the sea bass and my girlfriend had the scallops. She loved hers, mine was so-so, way too much sauce for me. The evening was perfect until we went to the bar. We were thinking of getting another glass of wine but the bartender had another thoughts. We sat for 15 minutes until we decided to leave.
