Why to put pound of salt in every dish? 3. How to make Monk fish to taste like plastic? Maybe chef had a bad hair day? I will never come back here. 3 stars for food and drinks. Our server gets 5 stars. He was attentive and genuinely interested why we didn't finish any of our dishes or the cocktails. The food was subpar. French onion soup way too salty. While lobster bisque should primarily taste like buttered lobster, it lacked dimension. The crab cake appetizer was tasty however all three of our entrées lacked flavor. We had the lobster mac n cheese, flounder and a steak strawberry and goat cheese salad. The mixed cocktails were just ok. Unfortunately our food experience was nothing to rave about and definitely not worth the hefty bill. read more

My husband went for our date night during the soft opening. You can tell they are new and getting everything figured out, but regardless the food was good and consistent. My favorite for sure was the lobster arancini and the mussels. My husband did enjoy his fish and chips but definitely the other two are highlights. We ended up at Half Moon while vacationing for a friend's bachelorette in Keansburg. The restaurant was extremely accommodating and service was excellent and fast! We loved the seaside vibe of the restaurant and it's menu. Several members of our party got drinks while others opted for mocktails and every beverage was phenomenal. I got a Rose Dawson and loved it. Our meals consisted of several different apps and entrees and not one person had a complaint. Portions were perfect, food was delicious and the menu was creative and interesting but comfortable enough for every kind of taste pallet to find something. Macaroni and cheese was creamy and had big portions of lobster in it. Shrimp had great flavor. Mahi tacos were a crowd favorite. NY strip steak was cooked to perfection and members of the party loved the coconut rice. Tuna nachos had great reviews. Pricing was fair, so no complaints at all. read more

I can't speak for the food, but this place always has events going on that make it seem so lively! They're menu is pretty decent I'd say, and they help brighter the town up! It's right next to the beach too which makes for nice scenery. And they even occasionally have a vendor thing going on. If you're looking to drink, I'd definitely say this place is a gem in a small town, with workers that appear to be rather friendly! read more

We were looking for a place to have our daughters engagement celebration and the moment we walked in and spoke with Diana, we were sold on half moon. We sampled several dishes for lunch and everything we ordered was simply delicious! In fact everything on their menu is made from scratch using locally sourced farm ingredients. They even source several of their beers from breweries in the area. We were so impressed by the owners, the service, the chef and the wait staff who were all wonderful! We've been dying to get over to Half Moon for months and finally made it in tonight for a belated Father's Day dinner. We started with happy hour at the bar then moved over to a table for the four of us. Everything was excellent. We started with the Brussel sprouts, spinach dip and olives for appetizers. Perfect sizes for sharing and all delicious. For dinner we ordered the fish and chips, flank steak, chipotle chicken sandwich and the melt sandwich between the 4 of us. Everything was cooked to perfection. For drinks we tried the Pain killers and key lime martini. So good!! We'll be back for sure very soon. read more

Discovered that this place was dog friendly and decided to stop by for Happy Hour. What a lovely local gem. A beautiful dining room and elevated outdoor deck. We sat outside and were offered a hearing lamp. We ordered the Buffalo Chicken Dip and Warm Olives. Both were incredible. We then ordered the Melt Sandwich and Tomato Bisque special. The Melt was delightful, though I wish I ordered it with the beef patty and the tomato bisque was excellent, the grilled cheese bites in the middle totally make it. The drinks we ordered were exceptional, the F.I.G. Is the ultimate Fall drink. Overall, a great place for drinks, good for doggos and delicious nom noms. Wish I had found it in the summer. read more

My wife and I just visited while on a trip to Sandy Hook and had a great dinner and enjoyed the sunset as we dined. The food was excellent, the cocktails were delicious and creative (and not overly sweet - yay!), and the service was friendly, helpful, and efficient without being pushy. We enjoyed warm olives with lemon and rosemary, their autumn salad, sautéed clams, carnitas tacos, and the lemon bar and some espressos for dessert. All were flavorful and excellently prepared and they were happy to accommodate our allergies. We would definitely go back the next time we are in the area. read more

The food is simply amazing and will leave you wishing you had enough room for seconds, thirds, etc. The staff is so professional and more importantly eager to serve and move with a purpose. I had the pleasure of meeting the owners and I can tell that they care about their customers and overall service. I strongly urge and suggest making reservations. Just came from our first experience over at Half Moon, we had gotten some recommendations to check it out, and we were not disappointed! The owners were extremely personable and I thought it was so great that they came over and introduced themselves. The service was impeccable and the food was excellent, really fun options , the seafood was fresh and delicious, and my cocktail was perfectly balanced . Our first time here. We went for the brunch this morning. What a disappointment! We shared the hot pretzel, which was good. The beer cheese and the mustard dip had good flavors. The pretzel came out hot and soft. That was the best part of the meal. We ordered the steak and eggs brunch which comes with breakfast potatoes and a small salad. The steak was COLD! the eggs and potatoes were barely lukewarm. We also ordered the Belgian waffles with berries and the chicken and waffles. The waffles were also cold on both meals. The summer prior to the opening of the restaurant (proper) Half Moon offered "The Lot" which gave off some pretty good vibes. I visited on occasion for some local beer and live music. Now that the restaurant is now open my wife and I decided to go out for a "date night". The good vibes for The Lot certainly translated to the dining room. Each item we ordered (2 apps, 2 entrees, 1 dessert) had complex flavors while being easily approachable. We didn't realize they opened at 5 and it was 4:45, so we were reading the menu when a staff member came out and invited us in. I gave this place 1 star for the staff only -- very accommodating staff. Food gets no stars. We went here based on previous, positive reviews. What a disappointment. One of the appetizers we ordered was the whipped ricotta -- tasteless and needed seasoning. Two of us ordered the carnitas tacos -- pork was dry, like it had been overly reheated. Linguini with clams -- swimming in tasteless broth; sautéed clams -- sandy and not really cleaned. Fish tacos -- 3 small tacos not worth the price. A very expensive dinner for lousy food. Plus, parking could be a challenge. NOT RECOMMENDED AT ALL! read more
