Went here for New Year Day on the strong recommendation of friends and Half Moon did not disappoint. The restaurant looks brand new but still has a 'like home' decor and full bar. Our table went all out on the mimosa flights and then proceeded to order half the menu lol. The lobster eggs Benny was my main and had the dulce de leche crowaffle. The former being succulent and savory and the latter being light, flaky and sweet. Overall the food was most delicious, the service was also prompt and friendly. This is a family run establishment and even had the newest member strapped to the owners to greet customers with the biggest smile ever. 11 of us for New Year's Day late brunch. The sign indicated they were short staffed. A full bar of seated guests, nearly all the tables occupied and our large group. You wouldn't have noticed they were short staffed. The team that was working were in constant motion and worked seamlessly together. Our waiter, the aptly named for the Season, Nick was spectacular. A couple of the orders changed with varying requests after they were placed; Not an issue. Nick, the others on the floor and the kitchen staff just kept everything flowing throughout the restaurant. The food, if you haven't been here before was delicious. The kind of silence at the table with the occasional Mmm and "Here, you've got to try this". The passing of each other's food is the ultimate compliment of how good each dish, no matter how simple sounding, is a must share must taste. Doesn't need to be a special day, event or occasion- JUST GO. It was our first time visiting Half Moon, and upon seeing wonderful reviews, we decided to give it a shot. Unfortunately, those reviews didn't live up to our expectations. Our first hint that this probably wasn't going to go well was upon arrival our server told us that the kitchen was pretty backed up, but we completely understood. Our appetizers came out. The lobster bisque surprisingly did have a lot of lobster in it, however, the bisque itself was pretty bland. The whipped ricotta was all right, but the bread it was served with was rock hard. Almost to the point where I thought it was going to chip a tooth trying to eat it. Entrées didn't go as well as appetizers. The red snapper was dry and bone-y, but the flavor was all right. The Thai shrimp could've been really great. The only catch was we were told it wasn't going to be spicy and it turned out to be the opposite. That ended up getting sent back, and we tried the strawberry salad instead. When I got to the table, it looked all right, but upon one bite, it was swimming in balsamic vinegar to the point where you felt like you were just eating vinegar and nothing else. This place has a lot of great reviews, so maybe we just went there on a bad night. Half Moon is currently in the process of building out their restaurant space, which will hopefully open in September. In the meantime, they have opened (beginning in June) an outdoor space which they call The Lot. The Lot has a bar, and offers a limited menu of items, all of which will be on their full menu once the indoor space opens. We were told that the full menu will have approximately 30 offerings. There is also (currently) a kids menu available, which offers a single slider, grilled cheese sandwich, and a couple other items. We visited about 5:30PM on a Sunday, and there were just a few other diners. We were told by our waitress Liz, that Sunday evenings are generally quiet, but that other evenings are quite busy. It was comfortable sitting out under the tent as we could feel the breeze off the water. I ordered the Morningside Margarita, and it was tart and flavorful. What I didn't realize was how potent the drink was, but I found out when I went to stand up when we were finished... and that was after only having the one drink! My daughter ordered the lemonade, and it was quite sharp, tasting like it was made with bottled lemon juice, not a drink to be ordered again. My daughter ordered the Smash Sliders sans the caramelized onions and special sauce. She said they were tender and flavorful. My husband and I shared three items, the Blistered Shishitos, Harpooned Shrimp, and the Cajun Fish Tacos. The Shishitos were flavorful, especially with the togarashi powder. I personally prefer them a bit more blistered, so next time I will make that request. The shrimp was two skewers of five shrimp each. The shrimp were plump and perfectly grilled. The sauce was mild, both sweet and spicy. The Cajun Fish Tacos were two street tacos, each with a nice portion of tender perfectly cooked Mahi-mahi. The seasoning was very mild, and to call them Cajun is a stretch, but a delicious taco nonetheless. My daughter finished her meal with a Good Humor ice cream bar. Our waitress Liz was super friendly and answered all our menu and restaurant questions. Our food came out quickly, everything was hot, fresh, and tasty. We're looking forward to trying more menu items, and we would definitely order all the items we had tonight again in the future. My Margarita was strong so there was no way I could have handled more than one drink, but I'm looking forward to trying some of their other specialty cocktails! First off, walk in and sat down at the bar for the happy hour. Wind was flying at me, damn near pushed me out of my chair. Come to find out all the doors are closed so I'm confused where this gust is coming from. I then turn forward and wouldn't you know it there is a huge window wide open blowing wind only on me. Amazing restaurant and ambiance with such delightful service. We hosted my sisters engagement party here, and it couldn't have gone better. The team was great to work with and extremely accommodating. The space was perfect for this kind of event, and very cute overlooking the beach. All the food turned out amazing, few standouts were the tomato soup and grilled cheese, the eggplant parm and flatbread pizzas. Also their flourless chocolate cake is to DIE FOR! Our table was waiting for us when we got there and our server, Brianna, was by our table instantly! We shared the whipped ricotta and calamari appetizers. My husband's lobster bisque was very good. He had the filet mignon entree which was delicious, despite being a tiny bit overcooked. My fish and chips were fine. The owner (or manager) stopped by to check on us, and Brianna did too, several times. The service was excellent, and we're interested in going back again to try some of the other unique items on their menu! I almost forgot to mention their macaroni and cheese! I am very fussy about macc and cheese and have tried the offerings in many restaurants, always being disappointed! Not last night...the short rib version that I ordered was creamy and delicious! We reserved a table for a bachelorette party tonight. The food was outstanding. Our server Lauren was so knowledgeable and friendly. She was so accommodating and helpful while we are visiting New Jersey. We were blessed to book an AIRBNB close to Half Moon. Luckily our AIRBNB host lead us to Half Moon. The owners Diana and Jennifer were beyond friendly, I've never felt so at home at a restaurant I've never visited. Beyond the feeling of being a local, the food was absolutely magnificent. We knew it would be good but it blew our minds. My personal favorite was the Whipped Ricotta & the Brussels. Our entrees were a perfectly cooked Monkfish and a superb Mushroom bolognese. Don't walk, run here if you want a locally owned, real place to converse with amazing people. When I come back to Keansburg, this will be the first place I visit. read more

A business trip to Keanesburg NJ led me to scoping out Half Moon, and it did not disappoint. It was Monday bingo/trivia night: Fun! I didn't participate but all around good vibes! I got the Burger with bacon which was great. The fries were excellent as well and a great compliment. The finale was the Oaxaca Hug which is basically a spiked coffee/hot chocolate. Good amount of liquor. Great little place. I highly recommend if you are in the area. Update: I went back again 5 days later and it was the same amazing and consistent experience! Typically, any resturaunt would take it back and give you a menu or take the drink back and remake it, welp not here, the waitress went back to the bar guessing to perform an investigation/discussion with the bartender and brought us back a cup of mixers for us to pour into the drink, never asked if that made it better. Again never asked if the drink was better, I had to call her attention to come back to remove the drink no care whatsoever. This place is down the street from my house and I'm so happy it is. Whether it's the summer or winter, the vibes are immaculate. I love sitting at the bar in the winter, on the patio in the summer. They did a really nice job renovating this place. Love the old school nautical feel. It's very loud like very! If your sitting at a table you can barely hear the person In front of you talking. They need to get some sound panels to absorb the sound from the bar area. We had the frito misto which was very good but not much calamari on here at all. Place looks great. Came for an event which was ticketed. So they knew the amount that was coming. The 3rd party hostess said they were behind in the kitchen which was understandable. But the employee came up and admitted our order wasn't placed. After some time we got our food. But for a table of 2 we were still charged gratuity, though it states on the menu it will be charged for 6 or more. Tried Half Moon for the first time last night with my wife. The staff and service were attentive and friendly. I had a Corona and my wife had the smoked lemon whiskey drink. She said the drink was really good. For an appetizer we shared the calamari. It was good. Had a fun twist with fried artichokes and zucchini. We just moved from Jersey City to Keyport and we have already been missing the quality of restaurants we previously had access to....until Half Moon. Everything was excellent from the ambiance to the cocktails to the food. First, the cocktails were unique and delicious and so fairly priced. The food was prepared with fresh ingredients and we loved everything. We had the short rib Mac and cheese, whipped ricotta and the chicken sandwich in Thai chili sauce.
