I love Half-Moon for a a lot of sort of niche items. Anything Patagonia- they have a solid selection of clothes, outerwear, and bags. They also have a large amount of casual shoes and sandals you can't really find anywhere else in town. i only shopped here bc i know my bestie loves the brands they carry and i wanted something she could exchange and find something else, if need be. if i wanted to be ignored by the staff and treated with indifference i would shop in Massachusetts. i waited about three mins at the cash register bf two sales associates finished their chat to ring me up. no thanks, no convo, she threw it in a bag and sent me on my way. i did not go straight home. i stopped at the DMV and just sat on a bench to soak up some better vibes. read more

At first I was skeptical never hearing about this company (as I'm not local). They just had a great deal on exactly what I was looking for. I was shocked that the backpack was charged 24.95 shipping but even with that it was still $70 off everywhere else. Had constant communication from ordering, shipping and delivery. It's so great to support a quality, independent Outdoor Shop. These guys have just about anything you need to get camping or backpacking!! Their Watersports section is equally great if you are looking to paddleboard or hit the river in a kayak. DON'T BUY FROM THEM! Their shipping is expensive, it took longer than stated to be delivered, and THEY SENT THE WRONG ITEM! They didn't offer any type of incentive to make it right (e.g., no free expediated shipping, no discount, nothing), just the standard refund even thought they totally screwed up everything. What a shame!! I have been shopping at Half-moon for years in Athens Ga and have been helped every time I walk in. Here ? Nothing. Been to both this one and the one in Mount Pleasant and was ignored. Wanted to buy a kayak but no one seemed to want to bother. 2 employees standing around talking and the other on the phone talking about fireworks and a scared dog. Walked right by. Oh well. Half-Moon Outfitters in West Ashley is one of my favorite places to shop for outdoor clothing and gear. Just walking in here inspires me to become more active and get out in nature. I am always impressed in the wide selection and variety of different items they have available. I seem to always walk out with more than one purchase and this is also a reliable place to find a good gift item for someone that is on my shopping list. The climbing wall inside the store is always fun to take part in. The staff here is very friendly and knowledgeable and seem to always be available to help and answer questions. I came to buy holiday gifts for my dad and brother. I couldn't decide between a shirt or a hat so I was standing there trying to decide. Within 30 seconds, a employee came over to ask if I needed help. He helped by asking what kind of things my dad and brother like and I inevitably bought a shirt, hat, and a surfing magazine. Just went into Half-Moon Outfitters yesterday and had the BEST experience. I'm gearing up for some travel and need a travel backpack, I wanted to assess all of my options. I was seriously a pain with all of my questions because I wasn't sure where to start. The guy who helped me (I feel bad, I already forgot his name :/ but it was either Jason or Justin!!! and he used to work at Amazon) was SO incredibly nice and helpful. He let me try on each bag with weights in them to assess which one felt the best and was super patient with me in assessing the pros of each bag and helped me think through the best decision. My son loves this store beyond a doubt. However i was unconvinced due to their prices. But my most recent experience sold me. After a little insisting that we go there after a day of paddle boarding my son and I went looking for a paddle board/Kayak for me and him to have fun on. As we entered my child went in and got a handy carabiner for his keys and occasional climbing and disappeared into the clothing section looking for jackets. I however drifted over to the side of the store to look at some Kayaks and paddle boards. Paul soon found me and educated me on the great pros and cons of each item and helped me to get some ideas. As my son eventually drifted back over to me Paul began to teach me about some of the Hobie kayaks they had in stock. I was concerned about being able to carry the Kayaks on my own and loading them on the car easily and so Paul vigorously recommended the K12 by KC Kayaks. The K12 isn't necessarily limited to be a kayak because it has a wide base and can be stood on with ease in the water. My son was attracted to it for Duck Hunting and Fishing and i thought it would be great to be out and nature and practice my professional photography. However rather than buying on impulse i said we would think about it and let it sit. So i went and finished up the day by buying an excellent rain jacket for my son due to the help of the excellent staff. After several weeks my husband and i began to talk about boat buying again and decided to go out as a family to see what we wanted. However my son still begged for the K12. We set out to look and got an idea of flats boats skiffs and johns boats but werent entirely set on anyone of them. But we finished the day off with half moon and When we went talked to Paul again and were given the opportunity to try out his own personal K12 the next day with him. So we went out and tried it out and loved it. all of the aspects of the boat were what we were really looking for. And so we went to half moon to purchase one. Paul helped us get every thing together for the boat and helped us load it onto the car. he told us the best place to get a trolling motor and told us what to look for and so we went and got it all taken care of and now we absolutely love our new boat. Thank you so much for the help that they gave us and all of the great people in the store willing to help. The fact that we could try out an employees personal boat before we bought was wonderful and we are so thankful. In everything outdoors you should go to Half Moon Outfitters. read more

I have been here so many times for my outdoor needs: paddles for my kayaks, Stand up paddle board-love it! Hiking boots, shoes, sandals, raincoats, underwear for travel, sports bras, etc etc and they are always helpful and friendly. I had not shopped here in a while so it was a real treat to see my friend Autumn, my friend just from going to Halfmoon because she is so sweet, sincere helpful and cute as can be! Thank you guys for always taking such good care of me and all my friends i send there:-))) One reviewer commented on paying a higher price on items, yes, they are at retail but their sale items are good deals and they are local! I like to shop local and see something and buy it, not go in the store, waste the salespeople's time and then go order it from amazon to save a few bucks. Money is money but try to shop local if possible, otherwise local stores may risk serious decline and eventual closings, yes its already happening! GREEDY LANDLORDS do not help the issue, it costs a lot to have a store. read more

I love the merchandise and brands at half moon, and I just had the best experience there today! The other day, I went in to buy a couple things. I bought a shirt in a large because that's what I usually wear. The shirt ended up being a little small so I wanted to exchange it for a size up. The store I opens at 12 PM but we were on our way out of town that morning. We got there around 11:20 AM and the guy working there was just setting up. I knocked on the door and explained the situation and sure enough he helped me out. He went out of his way to find the same shirt in the size up, and just took our receipt and tags then we were on our way! read more
