Customer service is something to be desired here. Constantly, when I'm at the store, to look at their products behind the counter, I get an attitude 9 times out of 10. Just today, I told them I was finished looking and thanked them. Completely ignored. I said "okay" and walked away. The ladies behind the counter began to laugh. I like this store. I came in with school related list and the staff person who helped me search for the books was very courteous and knowledgable. The store had many of them at prices I feel much better about paying than list price and ordering from the Beast. Several of the books they didn't have could be sent from their other stores. I hadn't been to this location in a while and was surprised to see that it had been completely remodeled in the meantime. I would have to say the remodeling overall is a huge improvement. I spend the majority of my time at Half Price Books in the music and dvds sections. These two sections were completely redone, and I like what they did. They are now in the center of the store as apposed to in the front corner, well the music section is now, the dvds are in the opposite front corner of the store. The sections seem to be spaced out better now. Definitely feels less crammed in there. Especially the dvds. It seems like that section has been downsized a little bit, but there's still a lot of stock to go through. Half Price Books always has really good bargain sections. Crazy good deals if you have the time and feel like putting forth the effort of going through all of it. Their regular book/cd/dvd pricing can be a bit high for buying used items, but their selection is pretty vast, so it's worth it if you can find something you've been looking for for a while. read more

I am a heavy book reader and was hoping to share this joy with my kids. I offered to buy my son a book at hpb instead of the school book fair (which is expensive and very, very crowded). One of the employees worked with my 7 year old to discern his reading level and interests and pulled 3 series for him to look at. One of them, the notebook of doom, got him hooked. He would read a book (98 pgs) in one sitting. His teacher even asked me how I get him to read so much. Thank you hpb for hiring people who are great with children, familiar with the series and incredibly awesome at pairing the two. Not only is this location the only one I would frequent whenever I needed new books it was also once one of my family's favorite places to take my brother. After an experience today, unfortunately, it will probably no longer be a store we choose to support. The manager, Nicole, decided today that she would no longer allow J to take his beloved numbers. This is totally understandable as I understand their necessity to the business, however the way in which she chose to go about it was insensitive. As noted in my previous review, my brother is a child on the autism spectrum. When my grandmother took him to this location today he went to get one of his numbers, a ritual the store has been letting happen for at least 2 years, Nicole refused to let him have a number. My grandmother begged to let him have it because when a routine is broken for a child with autism they will not alwhiays process it the way a "typical" child would. Nicole witnessed my brother panic and have an outburst where he was physically hitting himself, throwing himself on the floor and crying not understanding why this was happening. While I am a special education teacher and am trained to help deal in crisis behavior my grandmother, who was simply trying to do something fun with her grandson, is not. This left her, at 75 years old and fragile, having to get him out of the store. Anyone who has dealt with a child with special needs knows when upset they are physically very strong. And anyone who has spent significant time with a child on the spectrum knows what these outbursts can look like and how traumatizing they are to the child, family and even bystanders. I would like to close by saying I understand why Nicole no longer wants to allow my brother to have one of the bookmark identifier numbers, but I think Nicole could have approached this very differently. She could have done this by stopping the ritual long before, since she stated she has been managing the store for awhile, or simply stating that today would be the last time and we would chose to not bring J back. Instead, she chose to contribute to and witness a child go through trauma and stress. read more

Great place to go for all of your book wanting needs! Fair warning - if you're selling your books here, don't expect a lot of money in return even if you bring a bunch. A great thing about selling here is that you know the books will end up finding a new home and they won't end up in the landfill. The books are cheaper than traditional booksellers and they have a very wide variety ranging from cookbooks and new journals to my favorite section which is the political and history section. Each Half Priced Books location will have a pretty big difference in their stock simply because of what inventory they are getting in, but that makes checking out other locations so much fun! I think this location is best for romance, comic books, vinyls, and YA books but you can always find something when you're here! Highly recommend. read more

Brought in a bunch of books over Labor Day weekend, managed to use the money and the 20% discount they had to buy another book - good thing there is space on the bookshelf for it now! The staff was friendly and helpful, and even rescued a leaf I had pressed between the pages of a book and returned it to me :) The wait seemed like it took a long time, but I'm not complaining, there are lots of books to browse while you wait (You have to stay in the store while you wait, and what else are you going to do then read more books? And most likely find another one and buy it! Talk about an epic marketing scheme!) There were books everywhere, but it was orderly and easy to get around and see all the books that were available. There were a few chairs here and there, I sat in one while waiting for my books to be totaled and to find out how much I could get for them. Its nice to have a place to bring books to when you can't sell them on Amazon! Much quicker and less hassle then doing all the shipping and wondering if the book will sell for enough to pay for the shipping, especially when there are so many books on the market they are all only worth pennies! Its also nice to go there an find inexpensive used books to read. A wonderful way to reduce, reuse and recycle! read more

Very nice Half Price Books location. The shop has a good selection, and the staff is very friendly. I had an especially good visit to this store because a nice employee introduced me to the wonders of Half Price Books system locating and shipping over a book. We were visiting in search of a specific book, which they did not have in. However, the cashier was able to search the entire system of HPB stores and locate it out in Texas. She was very kind about calling over and getting the condition and pricing of the book and then having it shipped in for us for a fee of $3.99. It was great to learn about this option, and her assistance was greatly appreciated. I would definitely visit this location again. read more

Half-Priced books is the place for people who love to read. My favorite thing about this store is the unique and interesting selection they always seem to have. I often find rare/hard to get books here, which always surprises me. I'm personally in love with the foreign-language section - they always have some novels/children's books written in the languages along with books on learning. I've bought and sold books here and have yet to have a bad experience with either. They buy books, games, DVDs and music. It's a great place to sell your books when they are going for less than $10 on Amazon. While the prices are usually very reasonable, I recently saw Secret of Mana (a Super Nintendo game) here for $40 - not sure what that was about. All the other SN games were going for a dollar or two each. read more

They have a really great selection for being such a small place. Not just books either but movies, games and music too. The prices are always way better than the bigger places, so with the exception of Amazon they're my favorite place to pick up new reading material. The staff has always been friendly & helpful as well. If you can, take some books to sell. They give decent pay for them and you get a bit more discount on whatever you buy. read more

I love books. When I went to Half Price Books in Mason, Ohio for the first time ever today (3/20/21), I was sad to be parting with some of my books, but quickly became angry instead. The man at the counter where you sell your books told me I had to have my nose completely covered with my mask to be in the store. My mask covered my nostrils, but as I explained to this rude man, I had skin cancer surgery on the top of my nose and the mask is pulling off skin when I pull it over the top of my nose, so I have to keep in down a bit. He then informed me I could just wait outside while he assessed my books. While I was waiting, I went to my car and got a face shield that completely covered my nose without touching it. He rudely informed me that the shield was not acceptable, either. He wouldn't let me into the store even to collect my tiny sum of money they were giving me. He didn't ask if I'd had the vaccine. He was just intent on being rude. I will forever associate this rudeness whenever I hear the name "Half Price Books." Employees don't just work for a company; they represent that company. Today was my first and LAST trip to this store. I'll pay full price at Barnes and Noble, or just order books online. Great place to go and kill time when you need to, decently priced books & DVDs too, and if you can't find what you're looking for you can always ask and they can look on their computers! In addition you can also trade in those old books collecting dust that you don't plan on re-reading old DVDs VHS tapes records and video games and old iPods and game systems! Super friendly staff too They're always willing to help you locate books... And MAJOR bonus here, if you have A LOT of books/such in your car they're very willing to help you out by coming out to your car with one of their carts to help you unload your haul!! read more

Today I brpught in a stack of books. I was only expecting to get maybe 5$ for them all but instead they gave me 11.00. I could not have been happier. The women I dealt with was nice. Was just banned from the store because of the volume of books i would bring in to sell. Ive did business with them twice a week for two years and I have never had a actual day when they treated me in a friendly manner. All the workers and managers act like they are too busy to actually listen to you say anything. Very robotic company no true friendly service whatsoever. People on craigslist who buy books pay way more than this company. Ive brought 1000books in before and they had the nerve to actually offer me 4cents for all of them. So i hope this gives you an understanding on how they operate. read more

Wow how can no have a written a review of this place! In a strip mall in the burbs you will find a huge selection of used books, CD's , vinly, DVD and what ever else media someone took into selll. While you get paid cahs for anything you bring in, you will not get rich. The fun is in the search not the sell! read more

If you like to read and you don't like to spend a lot of money, this is your mecca. Since it's mainly second hand books, it's sort of hit or miss as far as selection goes. If you're looking for formula fiction (romance and sci fi) you'll never be disappointed. If you're looking for lit, don't feel disheartened if what you want isn't there. I've always been a big fan of Hal-Priced Books. If you've been to one, you've pretty much been to them all. The only difference between each location would be the workers & the selection of media. That being said, the workers are great, everybody seems to be friendly & helpful. The only reason why I gave this location three stars is because the somewhat lackluster selection of Vinyl & Design books, which are really the only things I'm interested in at Half-Priced Books. read more
